Vivo may ditch FunTouch OS for OriginOS in India, starting with V60 series
Until now, OriginOS has been exclusive to Vivo devices in China, while global variants shipped with FunTouch OS. The latter has often faced criticism for its basic animations, inconsistent navigation, and limited customisation options compared to its Chinese counterpart. Expanding OriginOS to global markets could help Vivo deliver a more unified and refined software experience across regions while also accelerating update rollouts.
The report suggests that Vivo's Android 16-based OriginOS will first launch in India with the Vivo V60 series, which is expected to debut next month. Once launched, the new interface is likely to replace FunTouch OS on eligible devices through future software updates.
Vivo's OriginOS in India: What to expect
While Vivo has not officially previewed the Android 16-based OriginOS, the UI is expected to include features from previous iterations. These include AI-powered tools such as the Blue Heart Little V Assistant, which allows users to drag and drop images or files for processing, and improved natural voice interactions via Jovi Voice.
Another key feature is Atomic Island, which provides real-time activity tracking and intelligent content suggestions based on copied content. Additionally, the AI-powered call assistant can handle real-time translation and call summaries, and even answer calls on behalf of users — a feature not currently available in FunTouch OS.
Beyond AI tools, the new version is also expected to bring smoother animations, redesigned UI elements, updated app icons, and more customisation options across the system.
Vivo V60: What to expect
According to the report, Vivo V60 could launch in India on August 19. The smartphone is expected to sport a 6.67-inch OLED display of 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip and could pack a 6,500mAh battery with support for 90W wired charging.
Vivo could continue its Zeiss collaboration for the Vivo V60, offering a triple camera system co-developed by the German optics brand. This could include a triple camera setup at the back with a 50MP primary sensor.

Sundar Pichai's Net Worth Hits $1.1 Billion After Alphabets Market Surge
Alphabet Inc.'s continued rally on the stock market has delivered a windfall not only for investors but also for its CEO, Sundar Pichai, who has now crossed the $1 billion net worth milestone. The 53-year-old, originally from Tamil Nadu, has seen his fortune rise to $1.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. This financial leap is driven largely by the surge in Alphabet's stock, which has soared over 120% since early 2023, adding over $1 trillion to the company's market capitalisation, reported Bloomberg. Unlike tech titans such as Meta's Mark Zuckerberg or Nvidia's Jensen Huang, who built their wealth through founding equity, Mr Pichai's ascent is distinct. He joined Google, now Alphabet's main subsidiary, in 2004, long after its 1998 founding. His early work on Chrome and Android laid the groundwork for his elevation to CEO in 2015. It was the same year Google restructured under the Alphabet umbrella. He was named the Alphabet CEO in 2019. Earlier this month, Mr Pichai became the company's longest-serving chief executive, completing nearly a decade at the helm. In Tamil Nadu, Mr Pichai's family lived in a two-room flat. They didn't have a car and only had a telephone when he was 12. In 1993, when he secured a scholarship to Stanford University, his parents spent over $1,000, more than his father's annual income, to buy a plane ticket to the US. 'One of the first things I did as CEO was to pivot the company to be focused on AI,' Mr Pichai told Bloomberg in an October 2024 interview. Alphabet has increased its investment in artificial intelligence under his leadership. An important turning point in the company's AI development was the $400-million acquisition of London-based DeepMind in 2014. Since then, Pichai has overseen a sharp rise in investment, with Alphabet spending close to $50 billion last year alone on AI infrastructure. The company released its second-quarter results in July 2025 that surpassed analyst projections. Alphabet shares climbed by 4.1% following the earnings announcement. It also disclosed a 16% rise in research and development spending. 'Our AI infrastructure investments are crucial to meeting the growth in demand for cloud customers,' Mr Pichai said on a July 23 call with analysts following the results release. Mr Pichai holds only 0.02% of Alphabet's stock, presently worth about $440 million. The rest of his wealth is primarily in cash, having offloaded over $650 million worth of stock in the past decade. Bloomberg estimates that his holdings would now be worth over $2.5 billion had he held on to all his shares.

India flexible on Chinese investments in electronics: Govt source
New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) India is flexible for collaboration of domestic companies with Chinese, especially electronics, a government source said on Friday. Around 60 per cent of electronics manufacturing happens in China, and hence, it is not easy to ignore it, the source added. 'Things are easing (between India and China). There are signals. Tourist visas have been opened. In electronics, 60 per cent of manufacturing takes place in China. So, there has to be some sort of collaboration," the sources said. He was replying to a question on government approval for the Dixon joint venture with Chinese companies. Dixon Technologies has received approval from the Indian government to form a joint venture (JV) with Chinese peer Longcheer. Dixon has been reaching out to several Chinese companies for joint ventures. It has signed separate agreements with Chinese electronic component firms — Chongqing Yuhai Precision Manufacturing Co Ltd and the Indian arm of Kunshan Q Technology — for manufacturing and sales of electronic components used in electronic devices like mobile phones and laptops, among others.
