" AC Chala De": Chaos On SpiceJet Plane, 2 Fliers Tried To Enter Cockpit
Dramatic scenes played out on board a SpiceJet Delhi-Mumbai flight when two passengers, reportedly upset with the air-conditioning, tried to enter the cockpit after the plane had started taxiing on the runway.
A video that has gone viral shows fellow passengers asking the troublemakers to sit down. "You cannot stop a plane like this; this is illegal," one of the passengers says. "AC chala de, hum baith jayenge" (switch the AC on, we will sit down)," comes the reply from the rear part of the cabin. Some passengers are then heard telling the cabin crew to call CISF security personnel and deboard the troublemakers. "Those who don't want to go, make sure they get down," says a flier.
According to air traffic tracker Flightradar24, the SpiceJet flight S9282, which was scheduled to depart at 12.30 pm yesterday, eventually took off at 7.21 pm and landed in Mumbai at 9.05 pm. It is not clear if the seven-hour delay was caused by the disruption due to unruly passengers.
"On July 14, 2025, two unruly passengers were offloaded from SpiceJet flight SG 9282 operating from Delhi to Mumbai. The two attempted to forcefully approach the cockpit and caused a disruption while the aircraft was taxiing," SpiceJet said in a statement.
"Despite repeated requests by the cabin crew, fellow passengers, and the Captain, they refused to return to their seats. In the interest of the safety of all passengers and crew, the Captain decided to return the aircraft to the bay, and the passengers were offloaded. They were subsequently handed over to the CISF," the spokesperson said.
Unruly passengers have emerged as a major challenge for airlines and their staff over the past couple of years. Back in 2023, an Indian man travelling from New York to Delhi allegedly urinated on a co-passenger on an American Airlines flight. The accused was drunk and urinated on the co-passenger during an argument. A similar incident had taken place in 2022 when a drunk man allegedly urinated on an elderly woman in the business class of an Air India flight.
The Director General of Civil Aviation has introduced tough measures to tackle the problem unruly passengers and ensure the safety of fliers onboard aircraft.

Mudasir Ahmad Khan, the SpiceJet employee who has been bedridden due to alleged assault by an Army officer at Srinagar airport last month, said he was targeted for doing his work honestly. He demanded stern action against the assailant to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Four employees of the airline were assaulted by Lieutenant Colonel R.K. Singh on July 26 after Khan had asked the Army officer to pay charges for carrying extra cabin baggage according to the norms set by SpiceJet. "I saw this man was carrying two cabin bags and asked him to stand aside so that they could be weighed. Against an allowance of 7 kilograms per piece of cabin baggage, this man was carrying two which weighed 16 kilograms," Mr. Khan told PTI Videos from his home in Srinagar where he has been bound to his bed after he suffered a spinal fracture caused by the assault. Mr. Khan said he asked the Army officer to pay for extra baggage but he became irate and misbehaved with him and other colleagues before turning violent. Our staff members suffered a spinal fracture and serious jaw injuries after being attacked with punches, repeated kicks and a queue stand," the SpiceJet said in a statement. According to the airline, an employee fell unconscious on the floor, but the passenger continued kicking and hitting him. "Another staff member suffered bleeding from the nose and mouth after receiving a forceful kick to the jaw while bending down to assist the colleague who had fainted." The airline said the passenger, a senior army officer, was carrying two pieces of cabin baggage weighing a total of 16 kilograms, more than double the permitted limit of 7 kilograms. "When politely informed of the excess baggage and asked to pay the applicable charges, the passenger refused and forcefully entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding process - a clear violation of aviation security protocols. He was escorted back to the gate by a CISF official," the statement further said. The airline further informed that the passenger grew increasingly aggressive at the gate. It could not be immediately ascertained whether the passenger was detained at the airport after the incident. SpiceJet said it has also written to the civil aviation ministry, apprising them about the "murderous assault" on its staff and has requested appropriate action against the passenger. The airline also said that it has secured the CCTV footage of the incident from the airport authorities and handed it over to the police. Strongly condemning any act of violence against its employees, SpiceJet said it will pursue this matter to its fullest legal and regulatory conclusion. Army officials said the issue has come to the notice of the Indian Army and "we are awaiting the conclusion of the pending investigation".
