‘Confer martyr status to those killed in Pahalgam'
While the ruling dispensation is going gaga over the success of Operation Sindoor, it is yet to pay heed to repeated pleas by bereaved families of Pahalgam victims of conferring martyr status on those who were massacred in Baisaran valley on April 22. Sanjay Dwivedi, father of Shubham Dwivedi, the first victim of the terror attack, has written two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding compensation for bereaved families and granting 'martyr status'. Dwivedi, in his letter, reportedly expressed hope that leaders across parties lines would stand by their demand, as the issue, beyond petty politics, is one of national interest. Panchayati Raj order attracts Yogi action A botched order from the Panchayati Raj department was about to put Yogi government in the dock if the CM had not rushed in to withdraw it right on time. The order pertained to removal of encroachments by those of a 'specific caste (Yadav) and a specific religion (Muslim)' from 57,691 village panchayats across the state. Calling the order 'completely discriminatory and unacceptable', and a serious administrative lapse, the CM also ordered immediate suspension of joint director SN Singh, the signatory of the order. The CM found its language and perspective divisive, and violation of government policies, which he asserted, could not be driven by prejudice.

EPS-95 pensioners' grievances conveyed to Union Minister
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat met Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Wednesday and apprised him of long-standing grievances of EPS-95 pensioners, particularly of those retired from the PSU and private sector establishments in Visakhapatnam. Highlighting numerous representations received from retired employees in this regard, the MP underlined the need to revise pension benefits and expedite settlement of dues. Among other issues, the MP spoke about discrepancies in PF records, delayed settlements, and how they impact financial and emotional wellbeing of the retired and serving workers. Responding to the concerns, the Union Minister assured that the Central government was considering an announcement to set a minimum pension for all EPS pensioners, and that a decision in this regard would be expected soon. Keeping the upcoming Khelo India Martial Arts Games in view, Sribharat pitched in for setting up a Centre of Excellence in Martial Arts in Visakhapatnam and submitted a formal proposal for the same. The proposed facility is aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure in the region and nurturing athletic talent through advanced training systems. 'The centre will position Vizag as a hub for martial arts excellence and contribute to India's sporting aspirations,' the MP mentioned.

US President Donald Trump was asked on Wednesday: 'Indian officials have said that there are other countries that are buying Russian oil, like China, for instance. So, why are you singling India out for these additional sanctions?' In response, Trump hinted at more "secondary sanctions" . "It's only been 8 hours. So let's see what happens. You're going to see a lot going to see so much secondary sanctions, " Trump said during a press briefing in White House. He also hinted that US administation could impose "more" similar sanctions on China. On being asked, 'On the Indian penalties, do you have any similar plans to enact more tariffs on China', US President Donald Trump said, "Could happen. Depends on how we do. Could happen." Trump's statement came as he signed an Executive Order imposing an additional 25 percent tariff on imports from India. After the order, the total tariff on Indian goods will be 50 per cent. According to the order issued by the White House, Trump cited matters of national security and foreign policy concerns, as well as other relevant trade laws, for the increase. He claimed that India's imports of Russian oil, directly or indirectly, pose an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States. While the initial duty comes into effect on August 7, the additional levy will come into effect after 21 days and will be imposed on all Indian goods imported into the US, except for goods already in transit or those meeting specific exemptions, news agency ANI reported. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) termed the US's move as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable", declaring that New Delhi will take "all actions necessary to protect its national interests." In an official statement, the MEA said, "The United States has in recent days targeted India's oil imports from Russia. We have already made clear our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and done with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India." "It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the US should choose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest," the statement added."We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified and unreasonable. India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests," the MEA stressed.
