WA Assistant Police Commissioner Gailene Hamilton charged with stalking
In a statement on Friday afternoon, WA Police said Assistant Commissioner Gailene Hamilton had been charged with one count of stalking and four counts of unlawful use of a computer system.
Ms Hamilton had been promoted to the third top job last month only days before she was stood down from her position following allegations of misconduct, The West Australian reported.
The matter was referred to the Corruption and Crime Commission after an internal investigation into allegations that Ms Hamilton had harassed a fellow officer.
In June, WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said the investigations involved allegations of 'persistent messages' between Ms Hamilton and another senior officer.
She has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a computer system and one count of stalking.
WA Police said she remains stood down, and is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on August 6.
'As the matter is before the courts, there will be no further comment at this time,' WA Police said in a statement.

Teen charged with manslaughter after woman, 59, killed in ‘high-powered' e-motorbike crash at Perth park
A 17-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter after a woman was killed by an out-of-control 'high-powered' e-motorbike in Perth's north. On Saturday about 2.30pm, air police were conducting patrols across Perth when they found an unregistered off-road electric motorbike allegedly driving recklessly through Woodvale in the city's north. He was refused bail and appeared at Perth Children's Court on Sunday. WA Police Detective Sergeant Ollie Edwards said the fatal collision with the 'high-powered' vehicle was a 'tragic incident'. 'Another innocent life has been lost through the reckless, dangerous acts of another person,' he alleged on Sunday. He said the teenager was not being actively pursued by police but confirmed officers 'activated their lights and tried doing an intercept', which the teen allegedly 'evaded'. He alleged the teenager was driving in excess of 100km/h in a 50km/h zone. Sergeant Edwards urged riders to be more cautious when driving electric vehicles, such as e-bikes and e-scooters. 'People riding e-rideables have got to exercise heightened caution when riding them, particularly the scooters with the smaller wheels,' he said. 'The speeds that some of these vehicles can go is not safe, and people need to exercise more caution when using them.'
