DALIAN, China -- The Chinese government is cracking down on price competition in solar panels, looking to bolster the sustainability of an industry in which China holds global dominance, but that is deteriorating due to oversupply.
"We will comprehensively manage the disorderly low-price competition," Li Lecheng, China's minister of industry and information technology, said at a roundtable discussion on Thursday with the heads of related companies and industry groups.

The department added Hesai in January 2024 to Section 1260H, which is a list of entities it claims are affiliated with the Chinese military. The company was removed from the list in October, only to be immediately added again, according to court filings. Hesai challenged the designation in court, arguing it was "arbitrary and capricious" and insisted that it did not have military links.
