Veerashaiva and Lingayat organisations to jointly celebrate Basava Jayanti in Belagavi
Various Veerashaiva and Lingayat organisations have come together to celebrate Basava Jayanti in Belagavi.
Three events are being planned to be organised as part of the celebrations, a bike rally on April 27, a function on April 30 and a procession on May 4, organisers said in Belagavi on Friday.
Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha district president Basavaraj Rotti told reporters that the Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha, the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, the Rashtriya Basava Dal and other organisations will jointly celebrate the festival.
'It will be an unprecedented grand celebration. All the organisations will come together forgetting their differences,' he said.
On April 30, the festival will be celebrated in the houses of believers and in private colleges and offices, apart from the government celebrations in Belagavi.
The bike rally will start at Basaveshwar Circle near Goaves. It will pass through Tilakwadi, Wadagaon, Khasbag, Shahapur, Ravivar Pet, Maruti Galli, Rani Channamma Circle, Shiva Basava Nagar and end at Ramteerth Nagar. Over 1,000 bike riders are expected to participate.
On May 4, a huge procession will be taken out from Rani Channamma Circle to Lingaraj College Grounds. Folk artists will perform along the way.
To a query, Mr. Rotti clarified that the organising committee does not support the demand for celebrating Renukacharya Jayanti along with Basava Jayanti.
'Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha president Shankar Bidri has made such a demand. But we do not support him. It is his personal view, though the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha does not endorse it,' Mr. Rotti said.
Leaders Rathnaprabha Bellad, Shankar Gudas, Ashok Bendigeri, Ramesh Kalasannanavar, A.Y. Bendigeri, M.M. Bali, Lingaraj Jagajampi and others were present at the press meet.
The district administration will celebrate Basava Jayanti in Belagavi on April 30. District in-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi will inaugurate the celebrations. A colourful procession will be taken around the city.
Writer Basavaraj Jagajampi will deliver a special lecture at the function to be held at Kumar Gandharva Rang Mandir.
Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, MPs Jagadish Shettar, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Priyanka Jarkiholi, Iranna Kadadi, MLAs, MLCs and others will be present.

Siddaramaiah skipping meeting disservice to Karnataka: BJP state president Vijayendra
MYSURU: BJP state president B Y Vijayendra criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for skipping the recent NITI Aayog meeting, calling it a disservice to the people of Karnataka. Speaking to media persons ahead of the Basava Jayanti celebrations at Kalamandira here on Sunday, Vijayendra said: 'By absenting himself from such an important meeting, the chief minister has let down the state. Even Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin attended. "Why did our chief minister choose to boycott it? He finds time to participate in protests at Jantar Mantar against the Central government, yet skips meetings convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Clearly, politics is the state government's priority.' He accused the chief minister of consistently taking a confrontational stance against the Centre since coming to power, warning that such actions are not in Karnataka's best interest. Flays closure of Janaushadhi Kendras Vijayendra also condemned the state government's decision to suspend the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) operating within government hospital premises across Karnataka.

CM misses Niti Aayog meet; none to read his speech
Bengaluru: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah did not attend Niti Aayog meeting on Saturday – conspicuous in itself as it was meant for CMs – but took quick damage-control steps a day later, claiming it's not a "boycott" and had to give the meeting a miss due to "pre-rescheduled programmes" in his home district of Mysuru. While Karnataka's dissent over alleged injustice by the Centre in resource sharing with states is well known, the CM did not say he chose to stay away from the meeting. The CMs from Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh, among others, were present. The gaffe was more glaring since there was no representative from Karnataka at the meeting to read out Siddaramaiah's speech. In an afterthought, the CMO released a statement in which Siddaramaiah acknowledged the importance of Niti Aayog meet and expressed inability to attend the event in person. "Although I'm unable to attend this very important meeting in person, it is an honour to share my thoughts on the significant topic of 'India at 2047 and Karnataka's Role in Nation Building'," he said in the statement. For the record, the CM attended a series of local events, including inauguration of Indira Canteens and Basava Jayanti, in Mysuru on Saturday. CMO sources said Siddaramaiah "could not depute" anybody else since the Centre informed the state govts that the meet was for the CMs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 47 Jahre Gelenkschmerzen mit Oma-Tipp fast kein Problem mehr Gesunde Apotheke Undo It is a normal practice that revenue minister Krishna Byregowda represents Siddaramaiah at GST Council meetings. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had initially deputed finance minister Bala Gopal, but pulled him back. Economists and political parties have taken exception to the CM's absence. CM's economic advisor Basavaraj Rayareddi said, "The Niti Aayog meet is meant to be attended by CMs. But there is no hard-and-fast rule. First, Siddaramaiah, being one of the senior-most CMs in the country and an expert in public finance, should have attended it. Second, he should have reached out to the Centre. This will be taken care of in the future. " Experts said progressive states like Karnataka should always be at the forefront of forums like Niti Aayog with valuable suggestions. "The Niti Aayog is the only forum where CMs get an opportunity to interact directly with the Prime Minister. No state should miss it. The Centre should be constructive and ensure adequate time for CMs to air their views at the meet," said D Rajashekhar, director of Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC). The CMO statement highlighted the state's initiatives in the green energy sector and establishing Karnataka as South Asia's Electric Vehicle capital in the next 1,000 days. He also highlighted the success of Karnataka model of universal basic income through the implementation of guarantee schemes.

Siddaramaiah: Anubhava Mantapa will be inaugurated next year
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Anubhava Mantapa, being constructed by the State government at Basavakalyana in Bidar district at a cost of nearly ₹600 crore, will be completed and inaugurated next year. He was speaking after inaugurating 'Basava Jayanti–2025: Our Journey Towards Anubhava Mantapa', organised by the Federation of Basava Organisations and the All India Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha, at Kalamandira here on Saturday. Mr. Siddaramaiah described Anubhava Mantapa as the first 'Parliament' because it was open to all sections of society, including women, to air their views. 'Basavanna expounded to the world a culture rooted in kayaka (labour) and dasoha (selfless service) because in ancient times, profession was linked to caste,' said Mr. Siddaramaiah. As Basavanna propounded the concept of dignity of labour, he was hence not only a social reformer but also an economic expert, Mr. Siddaramaiah added. Delving at length on the message propounded by Basavanna, the Chief Minister said the 12th century saint and reformer spoke against the caste system and the social revolution against it launched by Basavadi Sharanas has not occurred anywhere else in the world. The Basavadi Sharanas walked the talk in their struggle to build an equal and casteless society, he added. Though centuries have passed since the social reform movement, and Basavanna spoke of a casteless society, it still persists, said Mr. Siddaramaiah who pointed out that Basavanna's teachings are relevant for all time, and his values should be embraced by all sections of the society. Referring to the contributions of Basavadi Sharanas, the Chief Minister said their experiences became the Vachanas. The Vachana literature, delivered in spoken language, reached those who had been deprived of education, said Mr. Siddaramaiah. He referred to the caste discrimination in society that kept the 'lower castes' out of the purview of education which, he said, was the privilege of the 'upper castes.' Referring to his own background, the Chief Minister said that his parents were deprived of education and he himself was admitted directly to 5th standard at the insistence of Rajappa, his teacher. 'Because of Rajappa Master, I was directly admitted to the fifth grade, received education, and became Chief Minister twice,' he added and attributed his education and his political growth to the provisions made in the Constitution by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The values enshrined in the Vacahanas are also reflected in the Constitution and hence it was important to study and save it, he added. Responding to the demand of the organisers, the Chief Minister assured the Federation of Basava Organisations, more funds would be allocated for the construction of Basava Bhavana. Suttur seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, Mysuru district in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, MLA Tanvir Sait, and others were present. Earlier, a procession of folk artists was also taken out along the main roads of the city.
