Cops quiz vice-principal, may question union head
Special Investigation Team
(SIT) probing the gang rape questioned the vice-principal of the college after the call record details of prime accused Monojit Mishra revealed a call went to her a day after the crime.
"However, the content of that conversation remains unclear to us. Whether Mishra confessed to the crime is something we want to know from her. We also want to know if he wanted to know about the survivor's movements or her exact address," said a police source. When contacted, TOI did not get any response from the vice-principal.
The SIT is also gearing up to question the general secretary of the college, a second-year student.
According to the FIR, on the day of the rape, when the complainant was preparing to go home, the GS was with her. They both walked together to the college gate to go home. However, one of Mishra's associates, Zaib Ahmed, told them: "Brother is calling, there's something to discuss about the (TMCP) unit."

3 interstate ganja peddlers held
Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police team seized 123 kg of ganja and arrested three persons involved in its transportation from Andhra Pradesh. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that the CCB team intercepted two vehicles near Matadakere at Kantavara Cross in Beluvai village, Moodbidri, based on credible information. The police team found ganja being transported in two cars. The arrested suspects are Masood MK,45, a resident of Mogaru House, Adoor, in Kasaragod district of Kerala, Mohammed Ashiq,24, and Suber,30, both residents of Parappa in Kasaragod. Police seized two vehicles and five mobile phones from the arrested. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 46.2 lakh. Police probe Karad link with cellphone nabbed from Beed jail inmate
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Shivajinagar police have registered an FIR and are looking into whether a cellphone recovered from an inmate of Beed district prison on July 22 was previously used by Valmik Karad, prime accused in the murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. The police on Thursday registered the FIR under sections 43 and 45(12) of the Prisons Act, 1894, and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Assistant Police Inspector Gajanan Kshirsagar is heading the investigation. At 5.15 pm on July 22, the cellphone was seized during random frisking of the inmate, Rafiq Khurshid Syed (25), who is in judicial custody in connection with a case registered with the Majalgaon police. The handset did not contain a SIM card. Prison constable Govind Bhalerao filed a complaint with the Shivajinagar police, alleging that Syed violated prison riles by using the cellphone on the prison's premises. There are claims that the cellphone might have been used by Karad, who is lodged in the same prison and is awaiting trial. While no SIM card was present when the mobile was seized, authorities believe it could still hold valuable forensic evidence of past usage. The probe is focusing on whether prison staffers were complicit in smuggling the phone inside and if there was any attempt to destroy or remove the SIM card prior to seizure.
