MANUU cancels academic MoU with Turkish university over Turkiye's alleged support for Pakistan
HYDERABAD: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) announced the cancellation of its academic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yunus Emre Institute, Turkiye, with immediate effect.
In a press statement on Thursday, the Hyderabad-based university stated that the decision was taken in protest against Turkiye's alleged support for Pakistan's terrorist activities in the backdrop of Indo-Pak tensions.
It is worth mentioning that on January 2, 2024, MANUU signed an MoU with Yunus Emre Institute, Turkiye, for a period of five years, under which a diploma in Turkish language was started at the School of Languages, Linguistics & Indology, MANUU. Services of a visiting professor were hired for this. The statement said that the visiting Professor from Turkiye has already returned to his country.

Earlier, Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party and former defence minister, accused Benjamin Netanyahu of bypassing cabinet approval to arm a group of 'criminals and felons, identified with the Islamic State group". He said, 'To my knowledge, this did not go through cabinet," adding that the move endangers Israeli national security. Clan Backed By Benjamin Netanyahu Accused of Looting Aid, Ties Denied The armed group, which calls itself the Popular Forces, claims its purpose is to protect humanitarian aid convoys in Gaza. However, reports suggest the faction has instead been looting those convoys. The European Council on Foreign Relations previously labelled Abu Shabab's group a 'criminal gang." Hamas has condemned the group, accusing its members of 'theft and betrayal". Meanwhile, Abu Shabab, in a statement posted online, denied receiving Israeli support, saying, 'Our weapons are simple, outdated, and came through the support of our own people." Benjamin Netanyahu 'Restless'? Former deputy IDF chief and opposition politician Yair Golan, who leads the Democrats party, called the move 'reckless." For the past few months, the Trump administration has been urged to release the Epstein files. This involves the remaining investigative documents related to the case of Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in a New York-based federal jail in 2019. It's a collection of evidence the investigators working on the multiple criminal cases against Epstein and his associates gathered over a period of time. Some of the files were released in the past. After Donald Trump took charge of the White House in January this year, the US Justice Department released additional files related to the case in February. It stated that these were largely documents 'previously leaked but never released in a formal capacity by the US government'. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to procuring a child for prostitution. He served 13 months in a jail work-release program. He was arrested again in July 2019 and charged with serious federal crimes. The following month, he allegedly died by suicide in a jail cell while awaiting trial on those charges. These documents are part of a lawsuit filed against Maxwell in 2015 by Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein's victims, according to The Guardian. She is among dozens of young girls and women who earlier sued Epstein for abusing them at his houses in Florida, New York, and New Mexico. In 2019, nearly 2,000 pages were unsealed in connection with the case. Similar documents were released in 2020, 2021 and 2022 as well.

Influencer Sharmishta Panoli Walks Out Of Jail After Calcutta HC Grants Bail
Last Updated: The 22-year-old Kolkata-based influencer and law student was arrested on May 31 from Haryana's Gurugram for communal remarks allegedly against Operation Sindoor. Social media influencer Sharmistha Panoli on Friday walked out of jail a day after Calcutta High Court granted her interim bail in a case involving alleged communal remarks linked to Operation Sindoor made in a video . The 22-year-old Kolkata-based influencer and law student was arrested on May 31 from Haryana's Gurugram for communal remarks she made against a post that questioned India's military strike after the Pahalgam terror attack. She was brought to Kolkata on a transit remand and placed in judicial custody till June 13. Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury of the Calcutta High Court granted her interim bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000, observing that the complaint against her did not disclose any cognisable offence. While delivering the order, Justice Chowdhury stated that the arrest warrant had been issued 'mechanically" and noted that there was no need to keep her in custody for interrogation. 'The arrest warrant was issued mechanically. The accused is a law student, and there is no need to keep her in custody for interrogation," Justice Chowdhury said. Her arrest also sparked widespread reactions on social media and sparked a political row, with several leaders condemning the move and criticising the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government. She even received support from Geert Wilders, a member of the Dutch Parliament and the leader of the right-wing Party for Freedom, who said the influencer's arrest is a 'disgrace for freedom of speech". Meanwhile, Kolkata Police also filed a case against Wajahat Khan Qadri, the man whose complaint led to the arrest of Panoli. The man is facing arrest and is on the run. An Assam Police team reached Kolkata with an arrest warrant for Qadri. The Assam Police filed a case against him earlier this week for posting content on social media that contained hate speech and derogatory remarks, which hurt religious sentiments.
