Jack Grealish makes two sacrifices to make Man City transfer decision
The midfielder's value has dipped since his £100million transfer to Manchester, and it was widely anticipated that he would leave during the current window. Pep Guardiola sanctioned his exit after struggling to give him regular game time in the season's final months.
Everton have now stepped up to take Grealish on loan, but this leaves the ex-Aston Villa star facing uncertainty about his future again in 12 months - something he had hoped to avoid.
The 29-year-old's switch has also seen him cool his desire to play in the Champions League, reports the BBC. Grealish wanted to remain playing in Europe but neither Newcastle, nor Tottenham, two teams who were linked with him, came forward with an offer.
Grealish will instead help spearhead Everton's first season at their new state-of-the-art Hill Dickinson Stadium with the loan switch potentially costing the Toffees over £10m once a fee and wages are accounted for.
Across his time in Manchester Grealish has made more than 150 appearances, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup. He was key in their treble triumph but last term only made seven league starts as City ended the season without winning a major trophy.
Guardiola then left him out of the club's squad for the Club World Cup in the USA, further underlining his decline. It is understood that City were willing to help facilitate Grealish's exit, which was seen as the best solution for all parties, with the Catalan understanding when it came to his player's position.
He said at the end of last season: "It's not [only] Jack. There is not one player in my locker room, and I think all the locker rooms around the world, that is happy [when they] do not play. When the team is winning and winning they have to figure out how everything happens – but they are not happy. They are here to play and, when they don't play, they are not satisfied. That is the normal position in all the clubs."
Among Grealish's motivations for making the move to Everton was the chance to impress England boss Thomas Tuchel and put himself back in the shop window. The playmaker missed out on the Euro 2024 squad and has confessed he was "heartbroken".

Transfers: Leeds United set to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Leeds United have reached an agreement to sign free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The 28-year-old striker, who left Everton after nine years when his contract expired this summer, is set to undergo a medical at the Yorkshire club's Thorp Arch training ground. Calvert-Lewin managed just three goals in 26 appearances last season, having missed three months from the end of January due to injury. Injuries blighted his final few years at Everton, missing 529 days with a variety of problems since the start of the 2021-22 campaign. Calvert-Lewin was offered a new contract on reduced terms by the Merseyside club, for whom he scored 71 times in 274 games, at the end of last season, but turned it down for a new challenge. He is now set to become Leeds' eighth signing of the summer as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Liverpool icon heaps praise on Caoimhin Kelleher
Caoimhín Kelleher was widely seen as one of the best backup goalkeepers in the Premier League during his time at Liverpool. This summer, the Irish shot-stopper finally left the shadow of Alisson Becker and is preparing for his first season as a number one in the big leagues with Brentford. While Liverpool fans were disappointed to see him leave Anfield, the move is definitely progressive for his career. Kelleher completed a move to Brentford this summer. Pic:Another former Reds goalkeeper who knows a thing or two about delivering on the big stage is Jerzy Dudek. Dudek played 186 times for Liverpool but is easily best known for his penalty shootout heroics in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul. The former Poland stopper has heaped praise on Kelleher for his time at Anfield but believes that Arne Slot has another very good backup in Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Georgian signed for Liverpool from Valencia last August but played the 2024/25 season at the Spanish club. Dudek believes that Mamardashvili will be a key player for the Premier League winners this season, similarly to how Kelleher was over the past couple of years. Dudek was Liverpool's hero in 2005. Pic: Richard Sellers/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images He told the official Liverpool website: 'I think we have two really good goalkeepers. We also had two really good goalkeepers because Kelleher was absolutely amazing when he had the opportunity to play because Alisson couldn't, and this is what you need. 'You know from the past that the competitions are long, there are many, many games to come. You never know what is going to happen and you need two good goalkeepers. 'Alisson is, in my opinion, one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he is the No.1 and then Mamardashvili, he can be a really good replacement. He has got all the capacities to be at the top of the game, which absolutely we need. 'For every position you need to have a good replacement, especially in goal.' Kelleher made 46 appearances for Liverpool over the last two seasons. Kelleher earned seven winner's medals at Liverpool. Pic: Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images Last year, he played 10 times in the Premier League and another 10 times across the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Champions League. Dudek continued: 'So far, from what I have seen, the relationship between the goalkeepers here is very good and I hope it stays like that because there are so many competitions and everyone will get a chance. 'It's not like it used to be where one goalkeeper could play 300 games in a row! It is nothing like this anymore so now you will get the chance to play.' During his time at Liverpool, Kelleher kept 24 clean sheets in 67 appearances. He is also a record-holder, having won the most penalty shootouts of any Liverpool goalkeeper with four. Kelleher joined the Reds from Cork side Ringmahon Rangers in 2015 and earned seven winner's medals at the club. Giorgi Mamardashvili is Liverpool's new backup goalkeeper. Pic: Joe Prior/Visionhaus via Getty Images Dudek, who also joined Liverpool from a foreign league, believes that adapting to the Premier League will be a challenge for new man Mamardashvili. He added: 'The game is quicker. There is much more pressure on the player and he will probably find that out very soon! 'There is much more pressure on the goalkeeper, especially now when you are trying to build the play with your feet but also with crosses, and this is a huge difference between the Premier League and when you play in the Champions League, for example. 'It is a different style of refereeing and everything that is a foul in Europe is 'play on' in England. As a goalkeeper you have to accept it and be strong in your mind that it doesn't matter what is going to happen, you need to deal with it. 'I found this out at the beginning when I joined Liverpool and realised I had to adapt. I didn't accept it at first but you have to be really strong and you need to respect it because it is the same for everyone.'

Robbie Keane's Ferencvaros one step closer to Champions League proper
Robbie Keane is one round away from leading Hungarian champions Ferencvaros back to the Champions League group/league phase for the first time since 2020. Keane's side dispatched Ludogorets 3-0 in last night's second leg in Budapest, a brace of goals from Barnabas Varga and a late strike from defender Gabor Szalai sending them through 3-0 on aggregate. Republic of Ireland international Callum O'Dowda, signed by Keane in the off-season, played the full 90 minutes on the left side of midfield. They now face off against Shelbourne's conquerors Qarabag in next week's play-off round, with the winners progressing to the league phase of the Champions League. It is the first time the Hungarian champions have progressed as far as the play-off round since the 2021-22 campaign, when they were beaten by Swiss outfit Young Boys. Their last appearance in the Champions League group phase was in the 2020-21 season, when they finished bottom of their group, having amassed just one point. Keane took over as Ferencvaros manager in the first week of January 2025, with the club second in the Hungarian championship. He subsequently guided the Budapest club to a seventh successive Hungarian title. It was a second successive league title for Keane as a manager, the Dubliner having led Maccabi Tel Aviv to the .
