Blackpink's Jisoo faces fallout after brother accused of secretly filming sexual encounter
SEOUL, May 31 — K-pop star Jisoo is facing unwanted heat after her older brother was accused of filming a woman during a sexual encounter without consent and sharing the footage with friends. While the allegations are directed at him, it's Jisoo whose name has been dominating headlines — and fans are worried. The controversy erupted after a post on the anonymous platform Blind claimed, 'I was secretly filmed by Blackpink Jisoo's brother.' The original post has since been deleted, but not before it went viral across social media and forums. The woman behind the post alleged she was recorded without her knowledge and that the video was circulated among acquaintances of Jisoo's brother, known by the surname Kim. Xportsnews reported today that though Jisoo has no confirmed link to the alleged act, public backlash has landed squarely on her. Some online users, misled by the headlines, have even wrongly assumed she was personally involved. The fallout comes at a sensitive time for Jisoo, who recently launched her own label, BLISSOO, and has been branching out as an actress and solo performer. To complicate matters, her brother is reportedly tied to her agency — a detail that has sparked debate about the implications for her brand and professional image. Fans are rallying in support of Jisoo, saying she shouldn't have to answer for a family member's alleged misconduct. Still, others are calling for a public statement from her, putting pressure on the idol to navigate a controversy not of her making. Kim's camp has strongly denied the accusations, calling them baseless and threatening legal action. For now, Jisoo remains silent — but the damage may already be done. With endorsement deals and upcoming projects potentially at stake, the Blackpink star is caught in a media storm she didn't ask for.

Seoul court clips NewJeans' wings with RM3m fine threat every time they go rogue on Ador
SEOUL, May 31 — K-pop girl group NewJeans has hit a legal snag in their battle with agency Ador, with a Seoul court ruling that the members can't pursue solo or third-party activities outside the agency until their contract dispute is resolved. According to Hankook Ilbo, the Seoul Central District Court yesterday sided partially with Ador, granting an injunction that halts all individual entertainment gigs by the members — unless cleared by the agency. If any of the five violate the order, they'll each be slapped with a hefty one billion won (around RM3.1 million) penalty per breach. This decision comes months after NewJeans notified Ador last November of their intent to terminate their exclusive contracts, citing internal conflicts. Since then, the group has rebranded as NJZ and performed independently, including a high-profile appearance at ComplexCon Hong Kong. Member Haerin also took to social media to thank fans for standing by them during the legal limbo. Yesterday's ruling means those solo efforts are now on ice — at least until the court decides whether the group's contracts with Ador remain valid. In the meantime, NewJeans will also have to shoulder legal costs related to the injunction. The tug-of-war between one of K-pop's hottest acts and their label is far from over. A second court hearing in the main contract case is set for June 5.

K-pop's ‘Face Genius' Cha Eun-woo gets his marching orders, to enlist July 28
SEOUL, May 31 — K-pop heartthrob Cha Eun-woo is swapping the stage spotlight for military stripes this July, as his agency Fantagio confirmed on Thursday that the 28-year-old singer-actor will officially enlist in the South Korean army on July 28. Known for his breakout role in True Beauty and as the 'Face Genius' visual of Astro, Cha will be joining the army's military band. Fantagio shared in a statement: 'Cha Eun-woo, who recently applied to join the military band, received the final acceptance letter from the Military Manpower Administration today. He will enter the training camp on July 28 to receive basic military training, and then perform his duties in the military band.' The bittersweet announcement marks a significant pause in the star's ever-rising career, though fans — affectionately called Arohas — have known this moment would come. Military service is mandatory for all able-bodied South Korean men, typically lasting 18 to 21 months. Fantagio took the moment to thank fans for their unwavering support, saying: 'We would like to express our gratitude to the Arohas who have always given endless love to Astro... We ask everyone to give Cha Eun-woo strong support so that he can faithfully perform his duties and return in good health.' The agency also confirmed that his enlistment details will remain confidential to 'prevent safety accidents due to crowding.' Before the uniforms and bugles, though, fans can expect one last emotional hurrah. In June, Astro will reunite on stage at South Korea's Inspire Arena for a two-night concert, Stargraphy. The event is already shaping up to be a momentous send-off, especially with former member Rocky — who departed the group in 2023 — rejoining them for the show. Adding to his sentimental swan song, Cha also made a brief but memorable appearance in IU's recent music video 'A Beautiful Person'.
