Caught on Camera: gas station shootout leaves multiple hurt in New Smyrna Beach
New Smyrna Beach, Fla. – New video shows the moment when a shootout erupted at a RaceTrac gas station in New Smyrna Beach on Saturday. According to the police department, the incident involved two rival motorcycle gangs.
The video appears to be recorded from inside a vehicle; at some point, the witness runs into the store for safety while gunfire ignited outside. The witness – who wanted to remain anonymous – said they raced into the restroom for protection.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. Saturday at a RaceTrac at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and State Road 44, just a few miles from the beach. Police blocked off the area for hours, and RaceTrac workers said their store was also shut down while investigators searched the area.
Multiple people were hurt in the incident, but all are expected to be okay, NSBPD said in a statement. NSBPD did not share the number of people injured.
The shooting occurs as Volusia County closes Bike Week. The 10-day event attracts nearly 500,000 people to the area and fuels the local economy.

Parents of Sanford toddler nearly killed in hit-and-run ask for community help to solve the case
Sanford Police are asking the community to come forward with information on a hit-and-run that nearly killed a toddler. 3-year-old Harmonie Rose Bryant has been fighting for her life at Arnold Palmer hospital, since she was hit on Persimmon Avenue in the Goldsboro neighborhood on Thursday. According to her family, the toddler is in stable condition, but she had brain bleeding and multiple fractures to her skull and pelvis. The family spoke exclusively with Channel 9 and said Harmonie will likely have a long road to recovery. According to the family, the 3-year-old is awake but unable to communicate and could have lasting issues from the crash. Her parents told Channel 9 they were watching their daughter play 'Red Light, Green Light' with her older brother just feet away from their Sanford home, as a driver jumped the curve and slammed into their daughter. 'We were sitting right there on the porch when it happened. And that car came flying around the corner,' said Harmonie's father Melvin Bryant. 'She went flying in the air. I jumped off the porch, almost fell down the steps,' added Harmonie's mother Lakisha Debose, as she recalled the horrifying moment. Harmonie's parents said they have been by their daughter's hospital bedside 24/7 since the crash and are asking for continued prayers for her recovery. The family and several neighbors told Channel 9 speeding is a problem along Persimmon Avenue where the crash happened. They believe the city needs to take some speed calming measures on the road. Meanwhile, Harmonie's parents said they are frustrated the person responsible for the hit and run is still at large. They are begging the community to provide information to police that could help close the case. 'I want justice,' said Bryant, 'I'm asking for anybody to step forward.' Sanford Police said they do have persons of interest but have not made any arrests yet. The department said anyone with information about the hit-and-run could contact Sanford Police directly or make an anonymous report via Crimeline. ‘We can't hide kids:' Sumter County superintendent promises change after student records scandal
Sumter County Schools Superintendent Logan Brown greeted reporters at the door first thing Monday morning and made no secret of his reasoning to call a rare press conference at the small district: a need to show change was coming as he focused on rebuilding trust. 'We can't hide kids,' he said. 'We have to educate them to the highest standard, and that's exactly what we're going to do going forward.' Less than a year into his tenure, Brown accepted responsibility and blame for a scheme made public by a 53-page report released by the Florida Department of Education last week that said for six years, the district falsified student records in order to boost its ratings and funding. The plan centered around a program named SOAR. According to the report, the district moved approximately 200 low-performing students out of classrooms in their zoned school and into virtual classes. The investigation found that in some cases, the district never notified parents. Brown said several staff had been terminated and the administrators involved had left before he took over. He said the district would not have to give any money back. 'This is something that happened in the past, and we want to go forward and focus on the great things that we're doing,' he said. 'The only thing that I can commit to you as the leader of the school district now is that this will never happen again.' Online and in-person Monday, residents celebrated the notes of transparency the district was sounding. Mistrust has run deep in some corners of the county, and the response suggested Brown was moving the district in the right direction. Ironically, three of the four schools involved increased their ratings after SOAR ended and students returned to their normal classrooms. Two of the schools are now A-rated. St. Cloud to notify more than 7 thousand residents impacted by ransomware data breach
Thousands of St. Cloud residents are getting letters in the mail telling them their personal information was compromised duringa 2024 ransomware attack. According to the city, the attack happened between March 17th and March 25th last year when an unauthorized actor tapped into city systems to access personal information. The city said after the attack, they hired a third-party company which quickly started to investigate. The company found names, addresses, medical information, taxpayer IDs, and social security numbers were compromised. In total, 7,797 people were impacted, according to a city spokesperson. After the investigation, the city said it, worked to send notices as quickly as possible to those impacted. Letters were mailed to affected residents last week. 'Their data is probably sitting on the dark web right now, and it's likely being sold in some way, shape, form, or fashion to other threat groups,' said John Anthony Smith, Founder of Fenix 24, a company that has helped hundreds of organizations recover after data breaches. According to Smith, St. Cloud is just the latest local city to become a target. 'Counties and cities are maintaining tax records. They're maintaining property records. They're maintain portions of these records that don't get disclosed publicly. And therefore, threat actors are commonly going to target these types of files,' said Smith. According to a statement published to the city's website, 'As a precautionary measure, the City encourages individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft by reviewing account statements, credit reports, and explanations of benefits for unusual activity and to detect errors. Any suspicious activity should be promptly reported to your credit card company, bank, or other applicable institution.' Smith suggests a few extra measures, too. 'I would suggest to citizens that they get credit monitoring, they freeze their credit reports, and lastly you should probably change how you buy things You should be using credit cards not debit cards.' Smith said credit cards offer greater protection against fraud than debit cards, which is why he recommends the switch. He said anyone who receives a letter from the city should be extra skeptical of messages or emails from unknown accounts asking for personal information. The city is now offering one year of credit monitoring to anyone impacted by the breach and has created a dedicated toll-free number where people can get their questions answered. That toll-free assistance line that has been established at 1-(800) 939-4170, available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (excluding major U.S. holidays).
