Jeff Bezos' upcoming nuptials with Lauren Sanchez are being called 'the Wedding of the Century'. It's a three-day extravaganza in Italy's Venice, with a price tag of at least €40 million, or $46 million (Rs 400 crore). And what can you expect? Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is all set to say 'I do' a second time — with his fiancée of several years, Lauren Sánchez in the magical city of Venice in Italy. The couple are set to tie the knot today (Friday, June 27) with celebrations expected to run until Saturday, June 28.
And this three-day event, replete with celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Kim Kardashian, security fit for kings, a foam party on a superyacht and a whole lot of luxury hotels is being dubbed as the 'wedding of the century'. In fact, Lauren's elder brother, Paul Sánchez, had earlier told TMZ, 'I think it's gonna be like a Princess Di thing,' referring to Princess Diana's 1981 wedding to then Prince Charles.

But what's the price tag for such an extravaganza? Luca Zaia, the governor of the Veneto region, of which Venice is part, has said that the Bezos-Sanchez affair will cost 'at least €40 million,' or around $46 million (Rs 400 crore) — far surpassing the average $36,000 that US couples are expected to spend this year on their nuptials.
Bezos-Sanchez's three-day wedding affair
The Amazon founder and his wife to-be, Lauren Sanchez , chose Venice for their OTT wedding affair with celebrations beginning on Thursday (June 26) with a casual welcome event next to the Gothic church of Madonna dell'Orto. It is one of Venice's most important church complexes that houses the remains of Renaissance painter Tintoretto.
On Friday, the duo will recite their marital vows to one another at the San Giorgio Maggiore Basilica on the Venetian island of San Giorgio Maggiore. The island features manicured gardens, an outdoor ampitheatre, a private marina and the Gorge Cini Foundation.

A Wall Street Journal reports that acclaimed Italian singer Andre Bocelli's son, Matteo, will perform at the nuptials.
And the wedding celebrations will continue for a third day with the reception in the Arsenale, a massive brick complex best known today as one of the main venues for the Biennale cultural festivals.
A-list celebs, luxury hotels, private jets and water taxis
But to make such a wedding come to life isn't easy and or cheap. Massive logistics have to be put in place to ensure that this event plays out without any hitches and for that purpose.
Bezos and Sanchez have invited an estimated 250 guests, including several high-profile celebrities. While the entire guest list is still a secret, some were spotted on Thursday making their way on to water taxis. These include Kim Kardashian, her sisters and mother, Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner and their three children, Oprah Winfrey, Orlando Bloom and former American footballer Tom Brady.

It is reported that Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio is also expected to attend the nuptials.
And for these guests, Bezos and Sanchez have booked out five of the city's most luxurious hotels. The hotels include Cipriani on the island of Giudecca, and the Aman on the Grand Canal where US actor George Clooney stayed for his 2014 wedding with human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin . According to travel website Kayak, the basic room at the Aman costs $2,736.

Moreover, to ferry these A-list guests and everything else required for the events, Bezos and Sanchez have hired 90 private jets and also booked at least 30 water taxis from different companies in Venice for the wedding guests.
Here comes the bride
Also contributing to the million-dollar price tag of the wedding is Lauren Sanchez's wedding trousseau, including her dress, the flowers and her makeup. The Times of India has put down the cost to be $525,000 (Rs 4.48 crore).

And this doesn't seem incredulous considering what Sanchez has already been pictured wearing for her wedding celebrations. She started it off with a 2003 Alexander McQueen dress with mother-of-pearl stripes. She followed that up with a Schiaparelli dress from their spring 2025 couture collection. The gold look, designed by Daniel Roseberry, features a corseted bodice covered in gold bugle beads as well as an off-the-shoulder neckline with hand-embroidered flowers. She accessorised the dress with diamond earrings as well as her multimillion-dollar engagement ring.

It is still to be seen which designer she chooses for her wedding but many are speculating that Sanchez is opting for a Dolce and Gabbana creation.
Donations and gifts
Besides spending for hotels, water taxis and other logistics, Bezos and Sanchez are also making sizeable charity donations, including €1 million (Rs 10 crore) for Corila, an academic consortium that studies Venice's lagoon ecosystem, Italy's Corriere della Sera newspaper and the ANSA news agency reported.
There are also reports that the A-list guests will receive extravagant gifts from the couple. It is reported that hand-blown Murano glass created by Laguna B, a Venetian glass company with a rich history, is to be given to the guests. Furthermore, other luxury items are also expected, though details remain confidential.

Over 1,000 times the cost of a US wedding
While Bezos and Sanchez are shelling out $46 million for their nuptials, a study shows that this is over 1,000 times the cost of an average US wedding. A study by Zola predicts that couples in America will spend roughly $36,000 (Rs 30.7 lakh) for a wedding, up from $31,000 (Rs 26.5 lakh) in 2024. The study also notes that more than 50 per cent of couples are expected to go over budget.
Brooke Avishay, the owner of Orange Blossom Special Events, was quoted as saying that the price of weddings in the US has been steadily rising for the past five years. 'This surge is largely due to inflation and the aftereffects of the Covid-19 pandemic. When weddings were put on hold in 2020, the industry suffered, and many small, specialised businesses experienced staffing shortages. Once events resumed in 2021, the sudden, overwhelming demand — combined with limited vendor capacity — naturally drove up prices, a trend that has held steady into 2025.'

Assam enters national auction map as northeast's mineral potential unveiled

Guwahati: VL Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, underscored that the Geological Survey of India has identified over 36,000 square kilometres in the Northeast India as having mineral potential, translating to nearly 3,000 prospective mines. He highlighted that Assam has now firmly entered the national auction map, signalling a new era for mineral development. The 2nd North East Geology and Mining Ministers' Conclave was inaugurated in Guwahati, Assam on Friday. He called for expanding exploration and research, including leveraging Artificial Intelligence in mineral discovery. Notably, the North East is home to one of India's first AI-supported exploration projects sanctioned under the National Mineral Exploration Trust. The Secretary urged all state governments to actively facilitate exploration, considering the challenging topography, and to ensure sustainability and adequate security for geologists working in remote areas. The inaugural session was addressed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma he shared that state has initiated the auction of seven limestone blocks in the Umrangso area of Dima Hasao district, with five already auctioned and Letters of Intent issued, and the remaining two expected to be auctioned by August 2025. He expressed confidence that, with the support of the Government of India and Indian Bureau of Mines, at least one of these limestone blocks could be operationalised by December 2025. Live Events The Chief Minister informed that during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, the Mines and Minerals Department signed 14 MoUs securing investment commitments exceeding Rs 46,000 crore from national and international investors. He assured the gathering of Assam's conducive working environment and announced that the state cabinet has approved the formation of the Assam State Mineral Trust to promote sustainable mining and exploration of minor minerals. He added that the Assam Mineral Policy is in its final stage of formulation and is expected to be implemented within a month. Addressing the Conclave, Union Minister of Coal & Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, underscored the North East's critical role in India's mining and energy roadmap. He emphasised that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the mineral-rich states of the North East are now receiving focused attention to transform untapped resources into drivers of economic growth, employment, and local empowerment. The Minister reaffirmed the Centre's full support to all North Eastern states to develop state-specific mining action plans and stressed the importance of environmentally responsible, technologically advanced mining practices. He also highlighted the need to align mineral initiatives with disaster preparedness, scientific research, and community development. Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, highlighted the North East's strategic importance for India's energy security, owing to its rich tertiary coal deposits across Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Sikkim. These deposits, he noted, are characterised by high calorific value, low ash, and relatively higher sulphur content. He shared that 10% of funds under Central Sector funded schemes for Exploration have been earmarked specifically for the North East, underscoring the need for targeted exploration initiatives. The Secretary also informed that five coal blocks in the region have been successfully auctioned, with a combined capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum, expected to create around 1,650 jobs and generate nearly Rs 800 crore in annual revenue for the states. He reiterated that sustainability remains central to the Ministry's coal development strategy in the region. During the inaugural session, significant documents were released, including the Geological Potential of Northeast India which contains the details of the vast yet underexplored mineral resources of the eight Northeast States, laying the roadmap for strategic exploration, research, augmentation and sustainable development. The document on Mining in India's Northeast by the Indian Bureau of Mines was also released. The Ministry of Mines unveiled updated District Resource Maps covering Dibrugarh (Assam), East Kameng (Arunachal Pradesh), Kamjong (Manipur), East Garo (Meghalaya), Aizawl (Mizoram), Phek (Nagaland), Namchi (Sikkim), and Gomati (Tripura) to guide future investments. India's mineral auction framework has gained strong momentum in recent months. Since FY 2024–25, a total of 283 mineral blocks have been put up for auction by the State and Central Governments. Of these, 161 mineral blocks have been successfully auctioned, bringing the cumulative tally to 515. This includes five mineral blocks from Assam and four critical mineral blocks from Arunachal Pradesh, opening new avenues for industrial growth and employment in the region. These auctions underscore the readiness of the North-East to play a central role in India's critical mineral strategy, while also reflecting the government's commitment to transparency and competitiveness in resource allocation. The conclave is expected to serve as a catalyst for accelerating investment, innovation, and inclusive growth in the mineral and coal sectors of the North Eastern Region, in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat.

US stock market today: Wall Street heads for record finish as S&P 500 nears all-time high; global markets rally on trade optimism

US stock markets pushed higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both within striking distance of all-time highs, as investor confidence was buoyed by easing global tensions and signs of progress on a US-China trade deal. The S&P 500 rose 0.3% in early trading, poised to surpass its record set in February. The Nasdaq Composite also climbed 0.3%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.4%. If gains hold, it would mark a dramatic reversal for the benchmark S&P 500, which had plunged nearly 20% earlier this year on fears over President Donald Trump's aggressive tariff policies, according to an AP report. About 20 minutes into trading, the broad-based S&P 500 stood at 6,161.77, up 0.3 percent and above the index's all-time closing high, AFP reported. Nike surged 14% despite warning of a steep hit from tariffs, helping power the market higher. Wall Street's rally capped a week dominated by macroeconomic developments, including the Israel-Iran ceasefire and renewed US-China trade talks. According to AP, US President Trump said a trade deal with China had been signed, although Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick offered few details. China's Commerce Ministry said the two sides had 'further confirmed the details of the framework' for negotiations but made no mention of rare earth access for US firms. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Skal I på bilferie til sommer? In Asia, however, sentiment was mixed. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 rose 1.4% after inflation data showed some easing, while Shanghai's Composite Index fell 0.7% following a sharp 9.1% drop in May industrial profits. Hong Kong's Hang Seng also slipped 0.2%. Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management told AP 'Beijing may have paused the worst of the trade fight with Washington, but the tariff scars are showing—and unless demand picks up or pricing stabilizes, the pressure on margins and business sentiment will linger.' Back in the US, economic data released Thursday suggested resilience despite the tariff overhang. Durable goods orders beat expectations, and jobless claims fell. However, the economy contracted more than previously estimated in Q1 2025, a drop economists attributed to stockpiling ahead of tariff deadlines. In commodities, US benchmark crude rose 46 cents to $65.70 per barrel, while Brent crude gained 41 cents to $67.10. The US dollar slipped to 144.37 yen, and the euro edged up to $1.1710.
