You can still book Wizz Air flights from the UAE beyond September

Time Out Dubai5 days ago
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is set to cancel its operations from the UAE capital from September – but you're still able to book cheap Wizz Air flights beyond that deadline.
The airline offers low-cost travel from the UAE for under Dhs1,000 to several top destinations in Europe.
Wizz Air has declined to comment on questions related to the airline's operations from Dubai, but does continue to offer a handful of routes online from the UAE beyond September.
According to the Wizz Air website, Wizz Air Malta will continue to operate flights between Dubai and Bucharest in addition to its service from Abu Dhabi to Vienna.
Similarly, you can still make bookings on Wizz Air Hungary flights from Budapest to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi beyond that September deadline. Wizz Air Hungary will also continue to offer flights to Kraków and Katowice in Poland from Abu Dhabi.
So, while the cancellation of the majority of Wizz Air routes in the region is a blow for UAE travellers, there are still several routes that will continue to be available with the airline's wider network.
And, to fill the void left by Wizz Air Abu Dhabi's cancellation, there are plenty of other international and UAE-based airlines that will also get you to dream holiday destinations in the region, Europe, Asia and Africa.
The majority of carriers listed below also fly directly from DXB, so there's no need to travel to Abu Dhabi first.

Major airline set to axe busy route from Glasgow Airport

The budget airline also revealed it will axe flights to Budapest from Liverpool John Lennon Airport as well. Major airline set to axe busy route from Glasgow Airport (Image: Newsquest) A Wizz Air spokesperson said: 'We can confirm that Wizz Air will discontinue flights from Liverpool John Lennon and Glasgow International Airport to Budapest starting this Autumn. "Wizz Air continuously monitors the performance of its routes to allow for the most popular destinations to have the lowest possible fares.' After announcing the news, one traveller who frequently uses the route between Glasgow and Budapest revealed they were gutted. The distraught Glaswegian said: 'I've been a frequent flyer between Budapest and Glasgow ever since they launched the route. 'It was very convenient to visit my Hungarian family. 'It's awful to hear I will need to find an alternative flight and spend more money on travel. 'Also, it's baffling to hear the news because the planes are always full every time I get them. I don't understand why they made the decision, and I'm devastated.'

Scotch Whisky fans say 'oui' to unique wine experience at Lanarkshire distillery

Jackton Distillery have partnered with a family-owned vineyard in France's Loire Valley to release a range of wine available only through the distillery. A prominent Lanarkshire whisky distillery has seen unprecedented demand from whisky fans looking to attend a brand new wine experience. ‌ Jackton Distillery, who make their own critically-acclaimed craft Scotch whiskies and gins, have partnered with a family-owned vineyard in France's Loire Valley to release a range of wine available only through the distillery. ‌ Tickets for the first chance to meet the East Kilbride-based distillery's wine experts, alongside a pairing of selected French cheeses, sold out shortly after being put on sale - with a long wait-list forming for any cancellations. ‌ The distillery have now announced a second wine event to meet demand, to take place on August 9. The demand for the RAER Alliance range, the name of which refers to the historic 'Auld Alliance' between Scotland and France, has been driven by increased interest from consumers for wines with a UK connection. ‌ 'The modern UK wine customer is now looking to support local every time they buy - just look at the growing trend south of the border for English wine,' said RAER Alliance's director, Peter East, 30. 'With the best will in the world, we couldn't grow our own vines in Scotland – we don't exactly get Mediterranean weather in Glasgow – so it was amazing to have French winemaker Sébastien Fricker bring the French connection to us.' ‌ 'I'm not at all surprised that our first wine tasting completely sold out. This is a one-of-a-kind experience for whisky fans, and let me be totally honest here – the wines are simply 'magnifique'.' There are currently six wines in the RAER Alliance range, all originating from the Domaine des Elettes vineyard in La Loire. ‌ These include a sparkling AOP Crémant de Loire – the Loire Valley's version of a Champagne – which is made from hand-harvested grapes and traditionally aged for twelve months in Inox vats. Bottles can be purchased direct from the distillery, or from select wine retailers in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Only a limited number of bottles are available for purchase each year. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here.

Deadline for Wood takeover offer postponed for sixth time

The arrangement would include a longer duration for Wood to repay its existing debts via an extension to October 2028, plus an initial cash injection of $250m from Sidara. However, a number of Wood's lenders have yet to agree to the proposal. Read more: Wood said it is working to secure 100% support but in the absence of this it could use a legal process known as a scheme of arrangement, which only requires approval from a majority of creditors representing 75% of outstanding debt. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Sidara is considering reducing the price of its takeover offer following the launch of an investigation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) after an independent review found "cultural failings" with accounting practices at Wood. The nature of the FCA enquiry has not been disclosed, though it covers the period from January 1, 2023 to November 7, 2024. The previous independent review by Deloitte found "material weaknesses and failures" within Wood's projects business and its engagement with the group finance team. This has led to a delay in the publication of Wood's financial accounts for 2024, which were due at the end of April. Wood said it is continuing to work with its auditor to publish those accounts. Read more: Against this backdrop, Wood and Sidara have asked for and received from the Takeover Panel a sixth extension to the "put up or shut up" deadline by which Abu Dhabi-based Sidara must make a firm offer. This will expire at 5pm on August 25. Sidara made its first approach for Wood in May of last year. The Scottish company rejected the initial offer for 205p per share, saying it "fundamentally undervalued Wood and its future prospects". Sidara continued to make advances but in August 2024 withdrew its fourth bid for 230p per share, which valued the company at approximately £1.5 billion, citing "rising geopolitical risks" and broader uncertainty across financial markets. Shares in Wood plummeted thereafter with the company eventually losing its spot in the FTSE 250 index of London mid-caps. Read more: Following the delay in the publication of Wood's 2024 financial accounts, the company's shares were suspended from trading on the London Stock Exchange on May 1 of this year. The remain suspended at 18.44p each. In a separate announcement this morning, Wood also said that it has appointed Paul O'Donnell as a non-executive director of the company. Wood chairman Roy Franklin said Mr O'Donnell, a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, has significant experience of "helping companies navigate similar challenges to those Wood faces today". Mr O'Donnell is described as having more than 25 years' experience of mergers, acquisitions and business transformation, and has previously served on the boards of companies such as Nordic Aviation Capital, The Very Group, and TalkTalk.
