Mykhailo Mudryk doping ban update as chief confirms Chelsea could SAVE a huge chunk of his £88m transfer fee

Daily Mail22-04-2025

Mykhailo Mudryk has passed a 'lie detector test' in his bid to prove his innocence amid a doping ban, a Shakhtar Donetsk chief has claimed.
Chelsea star Mudryk, 24, is currently provisionally suspended from playing football after it was confirmed last year that he had tested positive for the banned substance Meldonium.
He has denied any wrongdoing and vowed to prove his innocence, but has not played for Chelsea since November.
Mudryk appeared to suggest he was missing being part of the team at the weekend, with a cryptic comment on one of Chelsea's posts, as he awaits the result of a 'B' sample, and whether it confirms the findings of his 'A' sample.
But with his former charge out of action, Shakhtar chief Sergei Palkin has claimed that the player is doing everything he can to prove his innocence, including taking a polygraph test.
'I have spoken to Mudryk many times since this doping issue arose,' Palkin told GIVEMESPORT exclusively.
'He doesn't understand how it could have happened. He has no clue. No idea at all.
'So his lawyers organised for him to take a lie detector test, which he passed. It will form part of the evidence showing he didn't intentionally do anything wrong.
'Mudryk has been clear, it's not his fault that he tested positive. We now need to find out how this has happened, and who did this. His lawyers are trying to find out.
'There are still no results from the B-sample, so that remains open. Nobody knows what's happened. I wish Mudryk all the best. He's a top professional and a very good person. He should be protected.
'Shakhtar also has a vested interest. There are bonuses from his move to Chelsea linked to his performances. If he's not playing, it causes problems for us because we could potentially lose €30m. So Shakhtar, Chelsea and Mudryk, we are in one boat.
'We all support Mudryk, and hope he is allowed to continue playing football soon.'
After joining for £88million back in January 2023, Mudyrk struggled to impose himself in the Chelsea side, and failed to really hit the ground running.
In 79 appearances for the Blues, he has only scored 10 goals, and was yet to do so in the Premier League in 2024-25 at the point his suspension came in.
He is yet to feature for the Blues since November and hadn't scored in the Premier League this season before his ban was imposed
If found to have committed an offence, then punishments for a positive drugs test could lead to a long-term ban as was the case with Paul Pogba when the former Man United star was initially banned from football for four years before an appeal led to it being reduced to 18 months.
In a message to his followers on Instagram after his provisional ban, Mudryk posted: 'I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance.
'This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.
'I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.'

When does the transfer window reopen and why has it closed?

This summer's transfer dealings have been split into two windows, with the first now closed. There was a scaled down Deadline Day on Tuesday as the transfer window closed for the first time at 7pm UK time. Plenty of deals have already been done in the Premier League, with Manchester City especially busy having spent over £60m on Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouri. Chelsea have already made a splash as well, beating a number of rivals to bring in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. Premier League champions Liverpool have also been swift in replacing the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold by signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds have also let back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher depart for Brentford, where Mark Flekken has left for Leverkusen. The first transfer window opened on June 1, but deals can now not be done again, but only for a few days. The transfer window swings open again on Monday June 16 and will remain open until Deadline Day on Monday September 1. It will be a different Deadline Day to normal, though, as the window closes at 7pm UK time rather than the usual 11pm. The revamped Club World Cup has changed things this summer, with the tournament in America getting underway on June 15. The first transfer window was known as an 'exceptional registration period' as it was there to allow clubs involved in the competition to bring in players before the tournament. As FIFA's rules state that calendar year transfer windows cannot exceed 16 weeks, there had to be a break of a few days where it was closed. While the exceptional registration period was there to help the teams involved in the Club World Cup, all Premier League sides could use it. More Trending 'This is a dream for me. Honestly, to be joining a club like Manchester City and have the opportunity to make the next step in my career here is something very, very special,' he said. 'I have worked so hard for this all my life. I love this sport, and I can't wait to develop further here in Manchester with Pep and his backroom staff. 'Everyone knows how good City are – they have been so successful for many years now. The responsibility to help the team continue winning is something I want to embrace. 'I would only leave Lyon for a project I really believe in and everything at City suggests I can develop my game and help the team be successful in the future. I can't wait to show City fans what I can do.' England supporters pay touching tribute to 26-year-old Chelsea fan killed in M1 crash in 26th minute vs Senegal

ENGLAND fans held a minute's applause following the tragic death of 26-year-old Harrison Turner. Turner's beloved Three Lions hosted Senegal at the City Ground, with his cousins in the crowd. 2 Harrison was tragically killed after being struck while working on a motorway hard shoulder on May 30. He suffered serious injuries and died at the scene of the crash close to the southbound slip road at junction 8 of the M1. Harrison's loving family organised for the minute's applause to take place in the 26th minute in his honour. Thomas Tuchel 's side were leading 1-0 after Harry Kane slotted in his 73rd international goal in the seventh minute. According to his family, the youngster was a huge England fan that went home and away. He was also a big Chelsea supporter, regularly attending Stamford Bridge to cheer on the Blues. A man, 58, from Luton, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. Det Sgt Ben Heath, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this difficult time. "Our inquiries are continuing, and I am appealing for anyone with information to please come forward. "Did you see what happened, or witness anything before the collision? "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their patience whilst we put road closures in place." Anyone who saw the crash, has information or dash cam footage has been urged to contact the police.

England footie ace Millie Bright's hunky new personal trainer lover revealed as kickboxer dad of SEVEN

THIS is the hunky personal trainer that England star Millie Bright has fallen for after splitting with her fiancee. We revealed on Saturday how Millie, 31, met the married father-of-seven last year when he became her PT at her local gym. 3 He can now be named as martial arts enthusiast Dave Zetolofsky, 39, and the pair's new romance has seen him move into her Surrey home. The Lioness World Cup captain last week devastated fans by making herself unavailable for this summer's Euro 2025 - stating she was unable to 'give 100% mentally or physically' for her country. The trophy-laden Chelsea star was in turmoil after splitting from fiancee Levi Crew and growing close to heavily tattooed Dave. However, she has told friends that her new romance is nothing to do with her withdrawing from the squad. There is also no suggestion that the pair cheated on their partners. However, their relationship has 'devastated' the hunk's wife Katie, who gave birth to their baby last January. Millie will today receive an OBE at Windsor Castle to recognise her incredible contrition to sport in this country. Pals said Millie, 31, began training at the 21st Century Combat gym in Redhill, Surrey, where she met fighter Dave. The beefcake is still co-owner of the fitness hub with his wife Katie, despite their sudden marriage split. Sources say Three Lions icon Millie joined a PT group in February this year and 'began flirting' with Dave - a former pro kick-boxer. England football ace Millie Bright leaves fiancé & falls for married personal trainer 'in a big way' They 'got more serious' after Millie ended things with Levi, and Dave split from Katie 'out of the blue'. Friends claimed Millie paid for Dave, an expert in Muay Thai - a full contact combat martial art - to stay in hotels after he walked out of the family home. And shortly afterwards Dave was seen at Millie's luxury pad on a private road in Surrey, leaving his five-month-old baby with devastated Katie. A source said: 'Their relationship is no secret and they've even been seen out and about together and in the gym together. 'I think you can understand that Katie has found the whole thing pretty devastating. 'The fall-out has been enormous, but Millie has fallen hook, line and sinker for this guy.' Millie, who has won a staggering 19 gongs during her career with the Blues, declared herself 'not happy' before pulling out of the England squad for the tournament in Switzerland earlier this week. The England squad will begin their tournament preparations on June 16, and kick-off against much fancied France on July 5. 3
