The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced it will be opening a new exit that will cut travel time by over 50 percent on a major city road.
Opening in early August 2025, the exit will open towards Ras Al Khor Road from Financial Centre Street to allow for better traffic flow.

This means that drivers will have their journey cut from 13 minutes to just six minutes during busy hours.
A statement from the RTA added: 'The Authority seeks to continue enhancing the efficiency of the emirate's infrastructure and roads, in line with the urban boom and development witnessed by Dubai.
'The new exit contributes to enhancing the smooth flow of traffic at Bu Kadra Interchange, by reducing the journey time for vehicles coming from the collector road from Financial Centre Street towards Ras Al Khor Street, in addition to reducing congestion on the collector road lane for vehicles heading towards Dubai-Al Ain Street, thus reducing the journey time from 13 minutes to 6 minutes, a reduction of up to 54 percent during peak times.'
Another exit on Ras Al Khor Road, Exit 25, has also been widened from one lane to two in the direction of Al Meydan street.
The stretch has now doubled in capacity to 3,000 vehicles per hour, meaning journey times have been reduced from seven to four minutes.

Ombudsman receives fewer complaints about scams and ‘unaffordable' lending

The number of complaints about financial firms where the ombudsman was called on to step in has fallen to its lowest level in more than a year, with fewer gripes recorded about issues such as perceived unaffordable lending and fraud. The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) said the fall in case numbers has been particularly significant across certain issues. Between April and June, it received 10,000 new cases related to perceived irresponsible and unaffordable lending – less than half of the 21,600 complaints received a year earlier. Similarly, the most complained-about issue it is currently seeing – motor finance commission – also saw a drop in complaints, from 36,000 cases between January and March to 21,500 cases processed between April and June. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said on Sunday that it would consult on a motor finance compensation scheme. The FOS figures also show a fall in complaints about fraud and scams, with consumers lodging 6,800 complaints between April and June, compared with around 8,800 fraud and scam complaints a year earlier. In total, the service processed around 68,000 complaints between April and June, compared with 74,600 new cases in the same period in 2024. The latest quarterly figure was the lowest since January to March 2024, when around 57,200 complaints were received. The service, which is free to use for consumers, recently introduced charges for professional representatives who bring more than 10 complaints a year. The move aimed to bring better balance to the organisation's fee model and to encourage representatives to submit more strongly evidenced complaints. While 30,800 cases were brought by professional representatives between April and June, compared with 36,600 a year earlier, it is likely that the next set of quarterly data will show fewer complaints brought through this route, the ombudsman service predicts. The most recent figures will include complaints which were submitted at the end of the last financial year but were processed by the ombudsman after April 1 – and these cases are not chargeable for professional representatives, the service said. James Dipple-Johnstone, interim chief ombudsman at FOS, said: 'Following a year of extraordinary demand, we recently announced reforms to modernise the UK's redress system, making it more agile and responsive and a much better fit for today's economy. 'We have acted on feedback from our 'call for input' and reviewed a range of our processes – and have already made changes. We'll continue to listen to our industry partners so that, working together, we can have a system that's fit for the future.'

The 3 Dubai taxi rules that will give you a free trip

If you're one of the millions of people taking a Dubai taxi trip every year, you may not have realised that your ride could have been completely free. A series of rules and regulations are posted on the windows of every single Roads and Transport Authority taxi in Dubai, outlining the dos and don'ts of riding – and the conditions for when a ride is free. Dubai taxi rides are completely free of charge in three different instances, but the rules are easily missed if you like to bury your head in your phone or take in the city scenery. Firstly, keep an eye on the meter. If it isn't being operated properly, then you're entitled to a free trip. The fee on the meter should increase at a steady rate depending on how many kilometres you've travelled. Instead, you're allowed to get a free trip. There may be a disagreement at this point, but make sure to point towards the sticker stuck to the window next to where you're sitting, and you'll be fine. If you're in a cab, then there is strictly no eating, drinking or smoking allowed, and you must not bring any pets with you either. Passengers are also informed that they're liable for any Salik toll gate charges, so if you want the driver to avoid going through any of the 10 gates, then you must inform them at the start of your journey. Taxi fares are set at a minimum of Dhs12 with a waiting charge of 50 fils per minute. Trips are cheaper if you're picked up on the street as opposed to booking through an app. Between 6am and 10pm, fares start at Dhs5, whereas online bookings start at Dhs8 during the same time frame. At night, street pickup starts at Dhs5.50 between 10pm and 6am while online bookings are priced from Dhs9. The RTA also has a handy equation available to explain your total taxi fare. Your final fare takes into consideration the base fare, kilometre charge, waiting time charges, a Dhs20 fee if you pass Sharjah, additional fees if you enter port Rashid, any applicable Salik fees and any applicable DARB (Abu Dhabi's version of Salik) fees.
