What happens if World Snooker Championship matches finish early tonight?
Just two quarter-final spots remain, but that will all change tonight.
Both second-round matches taking place during Monday's evening session are within one frame of conclusion, which could mean a very early finish at the Crucible.
What happens if World Snooker Championship matches finish early tonight?
A Big Break-style exhibition will be staged at the Crucible tonight if there are fewer than four frames on both of the two tables.
There is an unusual predicament in store for the evening session on day 10 of the World Snooker Championship.
On table one, Ronnie O'Sullivan will play his third session with Chinese qualifier Pang Junxu and he leads 12-4.
The Rocket only needs one more frame to reach a record-extending 23rd world championship quarter-final.
Over on table two, 2023 world champion Luca Brecel – who flew by private jet from Belgium to the UK on Saturday on the day of his match – is 12-4 up over Ding Junhui.
Likewise, the Belgian Bullet only needs one more frame to book his spot in the last eight following two outstanding sessions.
Fans attending this evening will not be eligible for a ticket refund, whatever happens on the baize.
There is the chance that both contest are over within one frame and way before 8pm.
Unless Pang and Ding win four frames in a row – and therefore force a mid-session interval – then the divide will go up and special entertainment will take place.
Ken Doherty, the 1997 world champion, the popular Jimmy White and Dennis Taylor – on the 40th anniversary of his 1985 Black Ball Final success – will take to the arena for trick shots and frame play.
The trio have a combined age of 193 and are on site in Sheffield due to broadcaster duties.
John Virgo, who co-fronted the BBC show Big Break between 1991 and 2002, might also be part of the activity.

Russell Martin fails to silence Rangers boo boys as Gassama penalty splits Monday Jury
It was a big weekend in the Scottish Premiership with the Ibrox side already playing catch up after another slip up Kieran Dowell was booed as he went on for Rangers. Does the Ibrox faithful need to show patience to Russell Martin and his team? KEITH JACKSON: Martin absolutely needs their patience but if the manager continues to make decisions which appear to the fans not to make any sense he'll test their tolerance to its limits. Persisting with Max Aarons at right back while leaving Nico Raskin on the bench isn't helping matters. MICHAEL GANNON: They are going to have to chill out a tad, accept it's going to be a bumpy ride for a while and hope Martin gets it right eventually. It's still early days and this desperation for it all to click immediately could be counter-productive. SCOTT BURNS: Russell Martin and his new team need time but that is the one thing you don't get in Glasgow. Regardless of it being a rebuild, you need to win games and they are not doing that in the Premiership. It needs to be addressed and quickly. Rangers got a point against Dundee thanks to a late penalty. For you, was it a spot kick and a foul on Djeidi Gassama? KEITH: It was clever from Gassama who got his body across Drey Wright and caused a tangle of legs. There was enough contact to justify the award even if Wright did very little wrong. MICHAEL: Drey Wright got on the wrong side and tried a sneaky tug to pull Gassama back. The winger's theatrics didn't look great but by the letter of the law it was a penalty. SCOTT: I do think it was extremely soft. I thought Gassama went down looking for it. I can see why Dundee felt aggrieved. Is the clock ticking on Arne Engels' time at Celtic? The record signing has been on the bench for the first two games KEITH: No. On the contrary, the young Belgian has bags of time on his side. The question is, can he make the most of it when the chance comes along? There is certainly plenty of room for improvement. MICHAEL: It's certainly interesting with the record signing benched for the opening two games of the season. There were signs of a real player in Engels last term but he needs to step up this term and nail his place in the side. SCOTT: I do think he will be at the fore for the big games. I am sure he will have a big part to play over the course of the season. He is a player Brendan Rodgers' rates highly. Livingston have come up and made a storming start. They were amongst the favourites for the drop but who do you think will finish bottom of the Premiership? KEITH: This could be a tricky first campaign in the job for Stewart Kettlewell at Kilmarnock. Derek McInnes was always going to be a hard act to follow and Kettlewell will have his work cut out just keeping the club's top flight status intact. MICHAEL: It already looks a long haul for Falkirk unless they really tighten up at the back. The bottom six sides are fairly evenly matched though so no one will get cut off and it will turn into a proper dog fight. SCOTT: I do think Falkirk could really struggle. John McGlynn might need to break up his back-to-back promotion winners to make an impact in the Premiership. I thought they might come up with a real bounce but the defeat to Livingston will have been a sore one.

Mason Greenwood left Aston Villa players furious after he 'SPAT' at Amadou Onana
Mason Greenwood was part of a Marseille side which beat Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly and the former Manchester United star's behaviour left opposition players furious Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been accused of spitting at an opponent during a pre-season friendly against Aston Villa. Greenwood was playing against the Premier League club for Marseille, the club he joined in the summer of 2024. In a clip shared on social media, Greenwood can be seen bouncing off challenges from opposition pair Emi Buendia and Alex Moreno before fouling Amadou Onana. As Villa defender Tyrone Mings heads over to intervene, Greenwood faces off with Onana and appears to spit in the direction of the Belgian. Onana seems to make a gesture implying he has been spat at, as the action descended into a brawl. While there is nothing conclusive from the footage alone, a number of fans have also suggested a spit was involved. "Onana wipes his face like he'd been spat on one second after these frames," one wrote, sharing some stills from the altercation. "Did Greenwood spit at him too? What's wrong with the kid?" asked another. Marseille ended up winning the friendly 3-1 in the south of France. Villa played one final pre-season game against Villarreal before getting their league season underway against Newcastle on Saturday, beating the Spanish side 2-0. 'I really enjoyed the game and it's been a good pre-season for us," striker Ollie Watkins said after the Villarreal win. "Over in Nashville, against Roma and Marseille there have been some good tests for us. 'The last game here tonight has been positive, so that stands us in good stead for the weekend," he added. Watkins scored several goals in pre-season, with Buendia - back from a loan at Bayer Leverkusen - joining him on the scoresheet in Spain. Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi had plenty to say about the Saturday friendly, where Greenwood was among Marseille's scorers. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice after returning to Stade Velodrome over the summer, while both teams picked up six bookings apiece. "He complained to my players. I prefer that he takes care of his players, and I take care of mine," De Zerbi said of opposite number Unai Emery. "The match was heated, it's good that it's like that, people paid to come to the Velodrome, when they could have gone to the beach we have to respect them. We should have been more aggressive from the start. "We are a professional team, like Aston Villa, like Sevilla, there are never really any friendly matches or training sessions. What's important is not to get caught out in Rennes [in Ligue 1] on Friday."

Nobody left at TNT can rattle cages or set agendas like Rio Ferdinand
After a few weeks in which other sports had some time in the sun, big-time football has returned to dominate the TV landscape for the next 10 months or so. Sky Sports has increased its offering to at least 215 live Premier League games this coming season. TNT Sports, and parent company Warner Brothers Discovery, is also broadening its portfolio and it was TNT that had the chance to land an early blow this weekend before the Premier League coverage begins on Sky on Friday. With the BBC's first post-Gary Lineker Match of the Day coming this Saturday, the game is afoot for the sport's major broadcasters, and this column will have a look at all of them over the coming weeks. TNT had picked up the rights to the Community Shield, which has been on ITV in recent years: no longer a charity shield, nor free-to-air either. Suck it, Commies. These are the times we watch live sport in. Laura Woods helmed from Wembley and in the modern style, there was no studio, with all the broadcasting done on the pitch, or by the side of it. You need an exceptional live operator to pull it off, and Woods is certainly that. She had Steve McManaman and Ally McCoist with her on Sunday, both of whom were in jolly form, verging on the unruly. Macca was sporting an untucked blue office shirt, giving him the look of a work experience lad who isn't sure if this is all for him. He's 53 now but there is something of the sixth-form rebel about him that I personally find endearing. Macca began the broadcast in a pair of rather rum sunglasses but they were removed, presumably on instructions from Sir, because special guest Joel Ward also had shades on at first but took them off. It was for the best. TNT had announced the signing of Gareth Bale for their coverage this season; he had impressed bosses with his work on the Europa League final. Rio Ferdinand's departure leaves them possibly a bit short of heft. McManaman, Peter Crouch, Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves are all likeable and have their qualities but none is an agenda-setter or a cage-rattler and Ferdinand, for his limitations, had some gravitas and an appetite for debate both on screen and in the important secondary theatre of social media. We'll have to see how Bale gets on but he doesn't immediately strike me as a sure-fire star player. Happy to be proved wrong. TNT, carrying on where BT Sport had left off, has now carved out an identity that is distinct from Sky's intense-men-arguing vibe and it works well, especially for lighter fare like sunny days at Wembley. Darren Fletcher was in cheerful mood, offering up the palindrome of 'Ekitike' to amuse or bamboozle McCoist. 'I'm aware what a palindrome is, now don't get carried away,' said the Scot. John Motson would have had Eberechi Eze and Romain Esse as well but Darren isn't one to push his luck. He rightly lamented the unpleasantness during the minute's silence for Diogo Jota: 'Why on earth there are a certain few inside the stadium who would spoil that moment is absolutely beyond me' but, unless I missed it, there was no mention of anything about the anthem booing. Was TNT playing it too safe? Elsewhere, there was a tremendous piece of buffoonery where Woods attempted a walk-and-talk and had to navigate McCoist and McManaman tripping over each other and giggling, before they all settled on a three-abreast stomp towards the camera with Woods in the middle. 'I feel like I am being escorted out by two bouncers, a familiar memory…' she said. Whole lotta love ❤️ Joel Ward is mobbed by his former Palace teammates after their Community Shield win 🥰 📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) August 10, 2025 Ward, making his TNT dayboo, was really good. Plenty of dressing-room insights and hugs with the players who were his comrades until just recently. He seems like a good egg and he looks the part. He has done one or two Palace matches on Sky and surely has a future in the punditry game should he wish to. Woods joked: 'He'll be taking my job.' That definitely isn't going to happen, but he seems like the sort of affable – perhaps slightly inoffensive? – type who would fit right in with the TNT ethos.
