‘The View' Host Ana Navarro Implores Gloria Gaynor To Turn Down Trump's Kennedy Center Honor: 'Don't Do It, Gloria!'

The View may be on hiatus but host Ana Navarro is still sounding off about her political opinions. After the Kennedy Center Honor recipients were announced, Navarro shared a message on social media publicly imploring 'I Will Survive' singer Gloria Gaynor to turn down the lifetime achievement award due to President Trump's controversial overhaul of the Kennedy Center. 'A few years ago, I got to briefly meet @gloriagaynor at a concert in Miami. She gifted me a keychain that belted out 'I Will Survive' when you pressed it. Let's just say, during first Trump term, I pressed it til it ran out of batteries,' Navarro wrote. Navarro stated that, while she doesn't disagree with Gaynor being honored by the Kennedy Center, she hoped the singer would reconsider accepting the award from Trump, who is set to host the ceremony himself on Dec. 7. 'I wish she wouldn't accept an award from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ,' Navarro wrote. 'The gay community in particular, helped turn her signature song into an anthem.' She concluded with one last jab at President Trump. 'Trump is a stain on the prestige and significance of the KCH. Don't do it, Gloria!' she said. Gaynor has not publicly addressed Navarro's comments, though she has shared congratulatory messages from others to her Instagram Story after the news was announced. Gaynor will be honored at the Kennedy Center alongside actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford, country singer George Strait and KISS. President Trump said he was 'very involved' in selecting the honorees and outrightly stated that he 'turned down plenty' of candidates because of their politics. 'They were too woke. I had a couple of wokesters,' he said, per Time. Trump took over as chairman of the Kennedy Center in 2025 after overhauling the board of trustees with his own loyalists. He vowed to steer the organization's programming in a different direction, promising it was 'not going to be woke' under his control. Several artists have since canceled appearances at the Kennedy Center in protest. The 48th Kennedy Center Honors will take place in Washington, D.C., Dec. 7. The ceremony will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+. Solve the daily Crossword

‘The View' co-host Ana Navarro urges Gloria Gaynor to turn down Kennedy Center honor because of Trump

'The View' co-host Ana Navarro pleaded with musical icon Gloria Gaynor Thursday to reject her upcoming Kennedy Center award because it will be bestowed by President Donald Trump. In a post on Instagram, the political commentator shared how she once met the 'I Will Survive' singer at a concert and Gaynor gifted Navarro a keychain that belted out her famous song. Advertisement 'Let's just say, during first Trump term, I pressed it til it ran out of batteries,' the anti-Trump commentator wrote. She then expressed her displeasure that Gaynor would be honored at an event hosted by the president. 'Yesterday, Trump announced he picked her to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, which he plans to host. Look, the woman is a goddess and deserves all the flowers that come her way. But I wish she wouldn't accept an award from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ,' she wrote. 'The gay community, in particular, helped turn her signature song into an anthem. Trump is a stain on the prestige and significance of the KCH. Don't do it, Gloria!' Navarro pleaded. Advertisement On Wednesday, Trump, the new Kennedy Center Chairman of the Board, announced the list of entertainers who will receive awards at the 48th annual Kennedy Center Honors in December. Gaynor joins country legend George Strait, rock band KISS, Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone, and English actor Michael Crawford as the honorees this year. 3 'The View' co-host Ana Navarro took to social media to beg musical icon Gloria Gaynor to decline her upcoming Kennedy Center award because of President Donald Trump's presence. 'I've always focused on a creative path that will help others and I hope that being awarded the Kennedy Center honor will help me continue this legacy.' 3 On Instagram, Navarro made a post about how she previously met the 'I Will Survive' singer at a concert while mentioning she shouldn't accept the award from Trump, saying he 'has attacked the rights and history of women.' Advertisement Trump will host the annual awards show after his overhaul of the Washington, DC, performing arts center in February. Shortly into his second term, Trump fired several Kennedy Center board members, including the president and Chairman of the Board, and replaced them with pro-Trump figures, who then named the president as chair. 3 Gaynor will be joined by country legend George Strait, rock band KISS, Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone, and English actor Michael Crawford at the upcoming 2025 Kennedy Center Honors. AP In a February post on Truth Social announcing the changes, Trump vowed to make the performing arts center 'great again,' by removing board members who did not share his administration's 'vision for a Golden Age in arts and culture.' Trump said that drag shows 'targeting' children were one example of programming at the Kennedy Center that would end under his leadership. His actions stirred backlash in the theater and film world, with multiple entertainers, including showrunner Shonda Rhimes, singer Renée Fleming, and actress Issa Rae, resigning from their roles at the Kennedy Center or canceling upcoming performances at the venue in protest.

Who Is Terry Cole? Pam Bondi Names DC 'Emergency Police Commissioner'

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Attorney General Pam Bondi has named U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) director Terrance "Terry" Cole as the new "emergency police commissioner" in the nation's capital. Newsweek reached out to Bondi's office via online form Thursday night for comment. Why It Matters In a news conference this week, President Donald Trump announced the decision to federalize Washington, D.C., citing crime and violence. Bondi's directive formed part of Trump's broader declaration of a public safety emergency in D.C. under the Home Rule Act and was accompanied by a surge of federal agents and National Guard troops. The action raised immediate questions about local control of the Metropolitan Police Department and implementation of the 30-day federal takeover. What To Know The federal response has included roughly 800 activated National Guard troops assigned to monument security, community safety and beautification tasks, and visible federal agents from agencies including the DEA and FBI deployed to areas like Union Station. The appointment of Cole now places a federal official with a national law enforcement portfolio in control of one of the nation's largest municipal police departments. Bondi said that Cole will assume "powers and duties vested in the District of Columbia Chief of Police," according to the Associated Press (AP). D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department "must receive approval from Commissioner Cole" before sending out any orders, the U.S. attorney general added. It is unclear how Police Chief Pamela Smith folds into this new plan, reports the news outlet. Cole has more than 31 years in public service, including time as a DEA special agent and rising through the ranks. Cole has been on assignment in New York, D.C., Colombia, Afghanistan and the Middle East, according to his bio. The new emergency police commissioner graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He oversaw the DEA's enforcement, intelligence, diversion control and public outreach missions, his bio also highlights. National Guard troops arrive at the Guard's headquarters at the D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser posted to X on Monday: "DC is unique. While we pay taxes and uphold the responsibilities of citizenship, we're not a state. We don't control the DC National Guard and we don't have senators or full autonomy. That's why you've heard me and many other Washingtonians advocate for DC statehood." Bowser continued: "Here's where we stand after today's announcement: we will follow the law, work with federal officials, and continue the work we do every single day to keep DC safe, beautiful, and the best city in the world." Trump, in part, on Truth Social Wednesday: "Washington, D.C., has one of the Highest Rates of Crime in the World, more than many of the most violent Third World Countries. The City's Homicide Rate is higher than places notorious for their violence, such as Mexico City, Bogota, Islamabad, and Addis Ababa — Almost ten times higher than Fallujah, Iraq. If D.C. were a State, it would have the highest Homicide Rate of any State in America. The Violent Crime Rate in D.C. has worsened, and the Murder Rate has essentially DOUBLED in just over a decade — But these are only the 'official' statistics released by corrupt City Officials. The REAL numbers are many times worse." Below is the president's full post: The AP contributed reporting to this article. This is a developing story that will be updated with additional information.
