Steve Kornacki's Longtime Role at MSNBC Comes to an End — Where Is He Heading Next?
Steve Kornacki's role at NBC is changing.
The data journalist, 44, has signed a deal at NBCUniversal that will see him leave his position at MSNBC, PEOPLE confirms. The new contract will instead expand his role across NBC News' broadcasts.
Kornacki will continue to provide statistical analysis for polls and election results, as well as major sporting events. He will also appear on NBC News Now, Meet the Press, Today and NBC Nightly News.

His new deal will make him an NBC News contributor with the title of chief data analyst, allowing him to pursue other projects that are unrelated to politics and sports outside of the network.
PEOPLE has reached out to MSNBC for comment.
Kornacki joined MSNBC in 2012 and went on to host several shows, including the 4 p.m. hour of MSNBC Live, the Monday edition of MTP Daily and Up with Steve Kornacki on Saturday and Sunday mornings. He was also a co-host on MSNBC's ensemble show The Cycle.

The journalist's exit comes amid several shakeups within the TV news network.

In February, MSNBC announced its decision to part ways with political commentator and The ReidOut host, Joy Reid, in a memo sent to staff. At the time, Reid addressed the speculation surrounding her exit in a statement shared on BlueSky and Instagram.
'I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,' Reid wrote. 'So very proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time.'
In the face of some high-profile departures, MSNBC also signed on a slate of new talent to join its programming, including NBC News' Antonia Hylton, Politico's Eugene Daniels and The Washington Post's Catherine Rampell and Jackie Alamany.

Brit Eady is taking Bravo to court over the explicit photo incident that prompted Kenya Moore's exit from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." "On information and belief, defendants knew that the photograph did not depict (Eady), or, at the least, were reckless or grossly negligent in failing to learn that the photograph did not depict (Eady). The lawsuit also alleged that the network refused to show Eady the photo before the episode aired. She accused the defendants of contributing to a "hostile work environment" and subjecting her to "unwelcome, offensive, and sexualized behavior and comments based on her gender by requiring her to continue working in an environment in which she had been subject to a gendered attack, creating an inferior condition or privilege of employment because of her gender." The suit calls for the episode to be removed from public platforms. Newsom says California will sue Trump over National Guard, dares Homan to arrest him
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said California will sue the Trump administration on Monday over its deployment of the National Guard to quell Los Angeles protests against federal immigration raids. In an interview Sunday evening on MSNBC, Newsom said the lawsuit would challenge Trump's federalizing of the California National Guard without the state's consent, a move with little precedent in U.S. history. 'Donald Trump has created the conditions you see on your TV tonight. He's exacerbated the conditions. He's, you know, lit the proverbial match. He's putting fuel on this fire, ever since he announced he was taking over the National Guard — an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act,' Newsom said on MSNBC. 'And we're going to test that theory with a lawsuit tomorrow,' he added.. Asked to elaborate on the lawsuit, Newsom said that under Trump's executive order, 'it specifically notes — and under what the [Department of Defense] did — is they had to coordinate with the governor of the state. They never coordinated with the governor of the state,' he said. Newsom noted that he has deployed the National Guard before to respond to various emergencies. 'We have no problem, working collaboratively in a mutual aid system with local law enforcement. But there's a protocol, there's a process. He didn't care about that. And the worst part, he completely lied,' he said. The governor pointed to Trump's Truth Social post earlier on Sunday, in which he said the National Guard had done a 'great job.' Newsom said the state forces had not even been deployed at the time. 'It's Orwellian, simply lying to people, unconstitutional, illegal act, his mess. We're trying to clean it up,' he added. Later in the interview, Newsom was asked about border czar Tom Homan's comments indicating he would not rule out arresting Newsom or Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass if they interfered in his efforts. 'Come after me, arrest me. Let's just get it over with, tough guy, you know? I don't give a damn. But I care about my community. I care about this community,' he continued. 'The hell are they doing? These guys need to grow up. They need to stop and we need to push back. And I'm sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting.' Newsom added. 'So, Tom, arrest me. Let's go.'
