'Life is precious': Channel 10 star Barry Du Bois reveals heartbreaking loss after close friend's death in raw Instagram post

Sky News AU2 days ago
Beloved Channel 10 star Barry Du Bois has shared a devastating message with fans, revealing a lifelong friend had recently taken his own life.
The Living Room co-host spoke candidly in an Instagram video on Tuesday evening, opening up about the news that left him shaken.
"G'day everyone, I've got some sad news," Du Bois began.
"Last week, I was living a very, very normal day, right up until it wasn't. I got a call from a close friend with news that shook me to the core.
"One of our mates, someone I've known my whole life, had decided to end his life. A strong, beautiful man. A dad, a husband, and a friend."
The 65-year-old father-of-two said the tragedy was a stark reminder of the silent battles many men face.
Du Bois, who has long spoken openly about his own mental health struggles, is a proud ambassador and board member for R U OK? Day, and an ambassador of Heart on My Sleeve.
He has thrown his support behind the movement's latest campaign, I'm Not Okay, which encourages people to share openly during times of distress.
"I just want to speak really plainly here. We simply must always be vigilant. Always look out for those small changes in the ones that we care about," he said.
He listed warning signs such as withdrawal from usual activities, a loss of interest, frustration, or any subtle indication that something is wrong.
"The thing is, don't wait for a crisis," Du Bois urged.
"Reach out and ask the question, 'are you okay?'"
Turning directly to men, he reinforced the importance of speaking up.
"It's normal to struggle, and to ask for help is brave. It's brave to say, 'I'm not okay'," he said.
He also reminded others never to underestimate the power of simply being present with loved ones.
"Life is precious. Connection matters. Stay alert. Stay empathetic. Stay engaged," he said.
"I promise you, you're not alone- and there's light at the end of the tunnel."
Speaking to SkyNews.com.au, Du Bois said learning to share his own pain was what helped lift him from some of his darkest moments.
He has undebiably faced more hardship than most: the loss of his mother to bowel and breast cancer in 2004, a near-fatal 14-metre fall that left him with a debilitating back injury, years of unsuccessful IVF, a miscarriage, his wife Leonie's cervical cancer diagnosis, and his own battle with an incurable blood cancer.
But despite the setbacks, Du Bois has defied the odds, living a fulfilling life as a proud husband and father to 13-year-old twins Bennett and Arabella.
"I know personally, when you realise that people will support you, that's when your journey out of that darkness starts to happen," he said.
Now using his platform to inspire others, he describes himself as a "modern-day elder" determined to build resilience in the community.
"It's our duty to be as curious and to be as aware of how we can strengthen society," he said.
Heart on My Sleeve founder Mitch Wallis praised Du Bois' authenticity and compassion.
"There are very few people with a heart as big as his. He genuinely cares," Wallis told SkyNews.com.au.
"He has been on the board of R U OK? for a long time, and is probably now the only Australian who straddles, at an operational level, both organisations that are completing the holistic conversation we're now having as part of I'm Not Okay.
"His work in this space couldn't be more genuine. He's a great guy and I'm super proud to have him on board."
Wallis emphasised that the 'I'm Not Okay' campaign is "a natural extension to a conversation Australia has been having for a while now".
"We've gotten better at checking in on others as part of the R U OK? movement," he said.
"To complement that, we're asking people who are struggling to put their own hand up, come forward, seek help, and be real about how they feel."

Run, don't walk. Viral Vue Bubble crockery range is back in stock at Myer but selling fast: ‘I need'

They're the viral plates, bowls, salt and pepper shakers and mugs that sold out in hours when they first launched at Myer. And now, the viral Vue 'Bubble' range is back and 'selling fast' according to the Myer website, meaning if you've been wanting to invest, now is not the time to hang around. The range comprises dinner sets of bowls and plates that make the perfect addition to your home, as well as cool 'bubbled' salt and pepper mills that give a unique and high-end styling twist. I've got my eye on the on-trend butter yellow 20cm Salt or Pepper Mill, which is currently marked down to just $23.97, which I intend to pair with the smaller 14cm Salt or Pepper Mill, currently $17.97, for a cool assymmetrical look. I also adore the hand-painted Bubble Mugs ($10.77), which will make your morning coffee all the more fun. According to Vue, the collection is perfect for adding some creativity to your food and tables. ' Our newest Vue homewares range steals the spotlight at every meal, dishing up both curves and character,' product description reads. ' Inspired by the bubble plate trend, this dreamy design fuses playful puffiness with sculptural silhouettes adding instant whimsy to every table.' There are a variety of different-sized plates and bowls available, so you can mix and match to your heart's content. Since they first launched the 'Bubble' collection several months ago at Myer, Vue have been enjoying popularity with their dinnerware on both Instagram and TikTok, where homeowners have shown how they have styled the pieces. ' Okay, I need this entire collection,' writes one shopper. ' So beautiful. I love it all,' adds another. ' I love these so much. Brb, buying it all,' writes a third. Many have compared the budget range to higher-end crockery like that from the likes of In The Roundhouse, but at a fraction of the price. The Vue items are currently on sale until Sunday 24 August, with additional savings being layered on top if you buy more and save more.

Jelena Dokic stuns as the Aussie tennis star looks slimmer than ever while on holiday with her new 'love' Yane Veselinov in Bali

Jelena Dokic has stunned as she popped up in Bali, Indonesia, looking slimmer than ever while on holiday with her new man, Yane Veselinov. The retired tennis great, 42, has publicly chronicled her weight loss journey after shedding around 20 kilos through diet and lifestyle changes. She credits her success to a healthy diet and an exercise regimen, which includes working out at the gym at 6 am while working 18-hour days. Dokic recently went public with her relationship with Veselinov, a Melbourne-based hospitality relations manager, on Instagram. And now the couple have taken their budding romance to the next level, embarking on their first holiday together at the popular tourist destination. Dokic took to Instagram on Thursday to share snaps of the pair enjoying the famed Monkey Forest in Ubud. While viewers loved the happy photos of Jelena beaming beside a couple of monkeys, all eyes were on the tennis great's slimmed-down figure. She donned a fashionable cream midi dress cinched at the waist and adorned with tortoise-shell buttons at the animal sanctuary. Her hair was slicked back in the humid weather, accentuating her slender face and light but flattering makeup. "Great experience. You look lovely!" one fan wrote in the comments. "Looking gorgeous," another person said. Jelena stunned again in another snap of herself donning a bold red lip and white dress with her boyfriend, who she lovingly referred to as "my love". After the couple enjoyed a tropical dinner, they visited the Elephant Safari Park Lodge where Dokic's casual ensemble showed off her muscles. The tennis star opted for a pair of sandals, fuchsia pink linen trousers and a white singlet, under which her well-earned abs were visible. Her dedication to her diet and exercise regimen was even more evident as she posed beside one of the elephants and even fed the giant mammal. More fans flooded the comments of her holiday snaps to praise the star. "I love seeing you looking so radiantly happy, Jelena," one person said. "Enjoy all your rest and recreation." Another fan wrote: "Jelena, you look absolutely stunning and happy". A third person said the tennis great was "looking so happy and relaxed!". Jelena and Yane's getaway comes after she won the Silver Logie for Best Factual or Documentary Program for Unbreakable: The Jelena Dokic Story at the 2025 Logie Awards at Sydney's The Star earlier this month. Dokic hit the red carpet solo at TV's night of nights despite having just recently gone public with Veselinov shortly beforehand. Nevertheless, the hospital manager later took to Instagram to share a photo holding her gong alongside some heartfelt words of support. "Honoured to be holding this incredible Logie award," Veselinov wrote. Dokic confirmed her relationship with Veselinov last month after published bombshell footage of the pair getting cosy at Melbourne Airport. "You are my calm, safe, peaceful and happy place. So glad I found you," she wrote alongside a romantic snap with her new partner. The tennis great split from her previous partner Tin Bukic in late 2022 after an almost two-decade-long relationship.
