
Survey: 72% of Private Companies Reject Government's Eid Holiday Decision
A survey conducted by the HR-focused platform DRH.ma shows that 72% of private sector respondents oppose the move, citing operational pressure and legal ambiguity.
The decision applies exclusively to public administration and territorial collectivities, leaving private companies without a clear framework.
Many found themselves scrambling to respond to an unexpected situation, with HR departments forced to balance internal expectations, workflow continuity, and a complete absence of formal guidance.
The survey, conducted on June 2 and 3 and involving 143 respondents, reflects a general sense of unease within the private sector.
Nearly half of the HR professionals surveyed viewed the move as a sign of disregard for the particular constraints of private businesses.
For companies operating under tight delivery schedules or complex logistics, such a late decision created tension. A significant number also pointed to the announcement's timing as a problem, arguing that the lack of preparation time undermined stability within organizations.
By June 3, only 17% of companies had confirmed granting the holiday to their entire workforce.
Another 22% were considering it under certain conditions, such as ensuring service continuity or requiring employees to make up for the lost time. Meanwhile, 28% intended to maintain regular operations, and 32% were still undecided, just six days before the date in question.
The lack of a unified response across companies illustrated a deeper fragmentation in HR practices. With no clear recommendation from authorities or professional associations, companies responded based on internal culture, immediate pressures, and perceived risks.
Some leaned toward aligning with the public sector, while others prioritized production timelines or internal stability.
Among those choosing not to implement the holiday, the reasoning was largely operational.
Respondents cited staffing shortages, delivery obligations, and the difficulty of maintaining client relationships without sufficient personnel. Some feared a rise in spontaneous absenteeism, while others anticipated client dissatisfaction or workflow breakdowns.
Budgetary concerns, contrary to expectations, played only a minor role in decision-making according to the survey.
Most HR professionals pointed instead to the challenge of preserving performance under tight deadlines, particularly for SMEs and industrial businesses. For these firms, an unplanned day off could disrupt the value chain and delay output in ways that ripple beyond a single day.
The survey also shows dissatisfaction with the role, or lack thereof, played by major business organizations. Many felt that the decision should have come with clearer guidance. The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) suggestion to treat June 9 as a day off 'where possible' was seen as insufficiently decisive, adding to confusion rather than resolving it.
A majority of HR managers expressed the need for stronger coordination mechanisms. Many called for formal frameworks that would regulate how exceptional public holidays are handled in the private sector.
Others proposed regular dialogue between business groups and public authorities to better anticipate the social and economic impact of such announcements.
The absence of consultation or clear policy direction has once again exposed the vulnerability of the private sector to abrupt government decisions.

Morocco Places Strategic Focus on Cooperation with Landlocked African Nations
Morocco, thanks to its geographical position and ongoing commitment, has made cooperation with landlocked countries, particularly in Africa, a strategic priority of its cooperation policy, Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh said on Tuesday in Awaza, Turkmenistan. 'In a spirit of solidarity and shared development, Morocco continues, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to provide concrete support to landlocked African countries through strengthening South-South and triangular development projects, effectively contributing to improving the livelihood of beneficiaries and strengthening their development capacities,' Kayouh emphasized during the plenary session of delegations participating in the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held until August 8. This commitment has been reflected through several initiatives, notably the Royal Initiative aimed at granting Atlantic Ocean access to Sahel countries, he noted, recalling that this initiative eyes a new framework for cooperation and joint development, by sharing Moroccan experience in infrastructure. This initiative is part of the Royal vision for a united, stable, and prosperous Africa and constitutes a strategic lever for the economic transformation of the Sahel countries by strengthening their strategic independence and promoting their great potential, he said, adding that it is also a great opportunity to integrate these countries into global value chains, thus opening up new prospects for growth and human, social, and economic development for Africa. This Moroccan approach to cooperation also tasks shape in several pioneering initiatives, such as the revitalization of the three Climate Commissions launched in 2016 at the African Action Summit, the Climate Change Competence Center, the Adaptation of African Agriculture to Climate Change (AAA) initiative, the initiative for Sustainability, Stability and Security in Africa (SSS), and the African Youth Climate Hub, he said. The minister further expressed Morocco's welcoming of the adoption of the new Awaza Action Plan for the decade 2024-2034, which reflects a collective commitment to strengthening landlocked developing countries' international cooperation in connectivity, energy transition, and economic flexibility. This conference stands as a crucial step in the development process of landlocked countries, ten years after the adoption of the Vienna Program of Action, according to the minister, with a view to assess progress made, commit to engage in strong partnerships and renew international support for the specific needs of these countries amidst a global context marred by multiple crises and growing tensions, he concluded. Marhaba 2025 : Over 2.78 million Moroccans from abroad welcomed by August 4 (+10.37%)
A total of 2,789,197 members of the Moroccan diaspora had entered the country as of August 4, representing a 10.37% increase compared to 2024, announced Omar Moussa Abdellah, project manager and supervisor of the Marhaba operation at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, on Tuesday. Speaking on the «Obour» program on Radio Tanger Med, Moussa Abdellah stated that the number of vehicles entering Moroccan territory since the launch of the Marhaba operation on June 10 through August 4 reached 838,360, marking an increase of nearly 3.74%. He emphasized that these figures demonstrate a steady rise in arrivals of Moroccans living abroad through various border points this summer, countering unfounded rumors of a decline. He added that «the Marhaba 2025 operation is running exceptionally well and smoothly on all fronts». In this regard, he noted that Tanger Med Port alone accounted for 555,753 arrivals and 175,808 vehicles, representing 35.87% of total entries by sea and land. Meanwhile, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca ranked first among air entry points, welcoming 320,395 arrivals, which represents 25% of all air entries by Moroccans living abroad. On the support side, Moussa Abdellah explained that the Foundation's teams stationed at border crossings and rest areas had provided a total of 45,465 services, including 2,858 medical interventions. These included emergency transport for about 50 cases to hospitals and assistance to more than 800 travelers facing vehicle breakdowns or other difficulties. For his part, Jaafar Ameyer, Director of the Tanger Med Passenger Port, reaffirmed that the port serves as «the main gateway for Moroccans residing abroad», noting that the number of arriving passengers and vehicles has grown by 6% and 4%, respectively, under the Marhaba 2025 operation. Royal Jordanian to Launch Direct Amman-Casablanca Flights in October
Marrakech – Royal Jordanian Airlines will begin operating regular direct flights between Amman and Casablanca starting mid-October, announced Jordanian Ambassador to Morocco Jumana Ghunaimat. The new air route aims to strengthen cooperation between the two kingdoms while supporting travel, tourism, and trade exchange. It will also reinforce cultural and economic ties between Jordan and Morocco. 'This direct flight represents a major step in consolidating bilateral relations,' Ghunaimat stated in a press declaration.
