Siddaramaiah responds to Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw's criticism, says ‘Seeking answers is our duty, not blame'

Siddaramaiah said that questioning the effects of the vaccine and investigating the cause of rising deaths was not about laying blame but fulfilling a government's duty to protect lives. 'We value every life in Karnataka — especially those of children and young people who have their whole future ahead of them. Raising questions and conducting studies is part of our responsibility, not misinformation,' he said.
The exchange follows a strong statement from Mazumdar-Shaw earlier this week, in which she criticised Siddaramaiah's remarks as factually incorrect. "To suggest that these vaccines were 'hastily' approved is factually incorrect and contributes to public misinformation," she said, adding that COVID-19 vaccines had saved millions of lives globally and went through rigorous approval processes. 'It's vital to respect science and data rather than indulge in retrospective blame,' she had asserted.
In his detailed rebuttal, Siddaramaiah pointed to an alarming spike in cardiac deaths in Hassan district, where over 20 people reportedly died of heart attacks in a single month. 'This is not a matter to be brushed aside. We have formed an expert committee led by Dr. C.N. Manjunath, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, to study the issue and submit findings within 10 days,' the CM stated.

He added that the same committee was tasked back in February to investigate sudden cardiac deaths among young individuals across Karnataka, including a probe into whether COVID-19 vaccines may have played any role. The government, he said, is actively collecting patient data, studying clinical patterns, and ensuring thorough scientific analysis.
Siddaramaiah also accused BJP leaders of politicizing the issue for electoral gains. 'Before criticising our efforts, the BJP should reflect on their conscience. It cannot be denied that the vaccines were rolled out under emergency approvals and questions remain globally on side effects,' he remarked, citing recent international studies that have explored potential links between vaccination and increased cardiac incidents.
Underscoring the government's commitment to public health, the CM mentioned ongoing state initiatives like Hridaya Jyothi and Gruha Arogya, aimed at proactive health screening and early detection of cardiovascular issues. He also urged citizens to take symptoms seriously. 'If anyone is experiencing chest pain, breathlessness, or uneasiness, please do not ignore it. Visit the nearest health center immediately,' he advised.

Rama Rao has criticised the State Government for its 'indifferent attitude' towards the migrant workers, who were killed in the Sigachi Industries blast here, stating that their mortal remains were being sent in cartons (cardboards) to their native places, without any respect to the departed souls. SLBC tragedy The BRS leader pointed out that the family members of six of the eight workers who were buried alive in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapse were still awaiting the bodies of their dear ones and were yet to get any compensation from the State Government.

Priyank Kharge: Delegation will be taken to Centre urging to include Koli-Kabbaliga community in STs list
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and Kalaburagi District in charge Priyank Kharge said that a delegation would soon be taken to the Centre urging it to include the Koli and Kabbaliga communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list. Speaking at the inauguration of Nijasharana Ambigara Chowdaiya Raitha Bhavana in Honnakiranagi village, built at a cost of ₹50 lakh, and the foundation-laying of development works worth ₹2.4 crore, Mr. Priyank said he had already written to the Union government in this regard. 'Although our party is not in power at the Centre, we will discuss the matter with Backward Classes Welfare Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi and take a delegation to rectify the lapses pointed out by the Centre in this regard,' he said. Final Electoral Rolls of Bihar to be published on Sep 30: ECI
New Delhi: The final Electoral Rolls of Bihar will be published on September 30, paving the way for voters to file appeals related to the list with district magistrates and the Chief Electoral Officer, an ECI official said on Friday. Nearly five per cent of filled-up and signed forms - nearly 38 lakh - have already been received by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who completed their first visit to nearly 1.5 crore households in the state on Friday, he said. During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, Enumeration Forms (6.86 crore) have been distributed to 87 per cent of the total of the nearly 7.90 crore electors in Bihar who were enrolled as on June 24, he said. The remaining houses could be locked, or of dead electors, or of migrants or those who may be travelling, the official said, adding that since the BLO shall be visiting three times to the houses of the electors during the exercise, these figures are likely to increase further. The partially filled forms are also available for download on the ECI portal ( as well as on the ECINET App, and the filled forms can be uploaded by the electors themselves on the ECINET App. Besides, 1,54,977 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties are also providing active support in the SIR process. As on July 2, BJP has appointed 52,689 BLAs, followed by 47,504 of Rashtriya Janata Dal, 34,669 of Janata Dal (United), 16,500 of Congress, 1,913 of Rashtriya Lok Jan Shakti Party, 1,271 of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation (CPI(ML)L), 1,153 of Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas), 578 of CPI(M), 270 of Rashtriya Lok Samta Party besides others. Each BLA can submit up to 50 certified forms per day, the official said. As per SIR, in order to get one's name in the Draft Electoral Roll to be published on August 1, the strict condition for an elector is to sign and submit the pre-printed Enumeration Form before July 25. Simultaneous verification of the uploaded forms has also been started. Despite apprehensions by some quarters, SIR will ensure that all eligible persons will be included. Based on the documents attached or not attached, with the signed Enumeration Form, eligibility verification of each name included in the draft rolls will be done continuously after their receipt, said an official. Verification will start vigorously from August 2 after the publication of the Draft Electoral Rolls. On the basis of the published Draft Electoral Rolls, claims and objections will be taken from political parties and the public on August 2.
