Trump admin imposes sanctions on more International Criminal Court officials

The Trump administration escalated its fight against the International Criminal Court by imposing sanctions on four more court officials involved in work related to alleged Israeli and US war crimes. In a statement Wednesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the State Department was designating Kimberly Prost of Canada, Nicolas Guillou of France, Nazhat Shameem Khan of Fiji and Mame Mandiaye Niang of Senegal for their work in the ICC 'to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute nationals of the United States or Israel, without the consent of either nation.' The sanctions were imposed under an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in February that authorizes punitive measures like sanctions and possible entrance bans on ICC personnel because of its 'illegitimate and baseless actions targeting America and our close ally Israel.' The executive order was already used to sanction ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan and four ICC judges. According to a State Department fact sheet, Prost, an ICC judge 'is being designated for ruling to authorize the ICC's investigation into U.S. personnel in Afghanistan.' Guillou, another judge, 'is being designated for ruling to authorize the ICC's issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant,' the fact sheet said. 'Deputy Prosecutors Shameem Khan and Niang are being designated for continuing to support illegitimate ICC actions against Israel, including upholding the ICC's arrest warrants targeting Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gallant since they assumed leadership for the ICC's Office of the Prosecutor,' it said. The ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gallant in November 2024 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Trump also signed an executive order authorizing sanctions and visa restrictions for members of the court during his first term in 2020, months after the ICC authorized a probe into alleged war crimes committed in Afghanistan by US and Afghan forces as well as alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Taliban.

Husband of woman found dead in forest fled to Peru: Authorities

The husband of a missing California woman who was found dead in the Angeles National Forest has fled to Peru, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Sheylla Cabrera, 33, was reported missing on Aug. 12, according to police. During the subsequent investigation, investigators say they discovered video surveillance appearing to show her husband, 36-year-old Jossimar Cabrera, dragging something in a large piece of material from the apartment complex where the two lived with their three sons. Authorities say they're obtaining the "necessary documents to secure his return." The case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for criminal charges against Jossimar Cabrera. Investigators say they believe foul play may have been involved in Sheylla Cabrera's disappearance. Investigative teams had been searching large areas of the Angeles National Forest, according to the sheriff's office. MORE: Foot remains found on Utah lake belong to man missing since 1997 Investigators also worked with the Mexican and Peruvian general consulates with alerts for the husband. Investigators say they were informed he had already fled the United States. Cabrera's three children, who were initially believed to be also missing, were found safe and taken into protective custody in Peru on Saturday, according to the sheriff's department. MORE: Search underway for man dropped off by ride share in Rocky Mountain National Park The Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue Team reported finding an object similar to the material that was "seen being taken away by the person of interest over the side of an embankment" in the Angeles National Forest on Saturday, according to the sheriff's department. Investigators responded to the scene and Sheylla Cabrera's body was discovered. The official cause of her death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.

Husband of missing Jacksonville mom of 5 in Duval County jail

The husband of a missing Jacksonville woman is in the Duval County jail Wednesday morning. Joshua Bailey, 40, was booked into the jail at about 10:22 p.m. Tuesday on charges of violation of injunction for protection against domestic violence and violation of probation/community control, according to jail records. Bailey is the husband of 34-year-old Kayla Bailey, a Jacksonville mother of five and a photographer who was last seen Monday at her home on Maxville Boulevard. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office told Action News Jax on Wednesday morning that Joshua Bailey's arrest is unrelated to his wife being reported missing. READ: Jacksonville police looking for missing mother of five, family fears she's in danger JSO posted on social media Tuesday that they're looking for Kayla Bailey. 'Missing Woman: Have you seen Kayla Bailey,' the JSO post states. 'At this time we believe Kayla Bailey may be in danger, and we are asking for your help to determine if she is safe,' a portion of the post states. Couple had recent domestic issues A recent Jacksonville Sheriff's Office incident report states that Kayla Bailey and her husband were having issues. Their daughter told officers that Bailey left the home and took her children to her mother's place for several weeks but returned home last week. When the family reported her missing this week, the officer noted in the report that he believes she left on her own free will. Bailey's family said they believe Kayla Bailey is in danger. 'She has never run off alone and for this long,' Jola Bailey, Kayla's daughter, told Action News Jax. 'She is really weak, and she is not really doing that well.' Joshua Bailey is scheduled to make his first appearance in Duval County Circuit Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday. 'The search for Kayla is ever evolving and we continue to learn more as investigators delve into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance,' a JSO news release stated Wednesday morning. 'As new information becomes available, we will disseminate it to the community.' Anyone who knows Bailey's whereabouts is urged to call JSO at 904-630-0500. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] Click here to download the free Action News Jax news and weather apps, click here to download the Action News Jax Now app for your smart TV and click here to stream Action News Jax live.
