Youth demand jobs, not speeches: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today slammed the NDA government in Bihar, accusing it of plunging the state into a deep employment crisis and forcing the youth to migrate to other parts of the country in search of livelihood.
Pointing towards the "success" of Mega Job Fair 2025' organised by the Indian Youth Congress in Patna yesterday, the former Congress president, in a post on X, said, 'This is not just a crowd—it's a clear message: the youth of Bihar no longer want speeches; they want a future built on employment.'
Targeting the BJP and the Nitish Kumar-led state government, Gandhi accused them of plunging Bihar into a deep employment crisis.
'The BJP and Nitish government have thrown Bihar into the fire of unemployment, forcing millions of youth to migrate in search of livelihood leaving behind their villages, their families… everything,' he said.
Praising the "talent and resilience" of Bihar's young generation, Gandhi said, 'The youth of Bihar are hardworking, capable, and talented all they need is local and dignified employment.'
He emphasised that the Congress party, along with the INDIA Bloc, is committed to delivering on that promise.
'The change has now begun. Congress and the INDIA alliance have come not with mere promises, but with real solutions,' Gandhi claimed.
He said, "Our focus is clear: rightful opportunities, generating employment, curbing migration, and reuniting families torn apart by economic desperation."
'This is the path toward a prosperous Bihar,' Rahul added.
The 'Mega Job Fair 2025' organised by the IYC saw a strong turnout from both job seekers and employers. About 190 companies, including Tata Alliance, Flipkart, Zepto, Voltas, Tech Mahindra, Paytm, Aditya Birla, Hitachi, and UrbanClap, participated in the fair, and more than 48,000 youth from across Bihar are reported to have visited the fair.

Shashi Tharoor Not On Op Sindoor Debate List, Congress Sources Say He Declined

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor evaded a question on whether he would speak during the special discussion in the Parliament on Operation Sindoor today, amid reports that he is not among the speakers chosen by his Congress party. Mr Tharoor was in the Parliament complex ahead of the resumption of the Monsoon session when an NDTV journalist asked him if he was among the speakers who would lead the charge against the government over the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. The MP from Thiruvananthapuram walked away without answering, only to turn back when a colleague, Renuka Chowdhury, called him. The reporters present there then turned to Ms Chowdhury and asked her if she would like Mr Tharoor to speak in the Parliament today. "He is constitutionally empowered to speak anywhere. Who am I to give permission?" she replied. Mr Tharoor had led arguably the most important delegation to the US during the outreach initiative following Op Sindoor - a move that is believed to have intensified an apparent rift between the senior leader and the Congress leadership.

‘Linguistic terror': Mamata Banerjee alleges Bengali migrant's family beaten up by Delhi Police

Reiterating her accusation that the Bharatiya Janata Party has unleashed ' linguistic terrorism ' against Bengali speakers, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday alleged that a Bengali migrant worker's family was harassed and tortured by the police in Delhi. The chief minister shared a video on social media in which a man can be heard accusing the Delhi Police of beating his wife and infant son. 'Atrocious!! Terrible!! See how Delhi Police brutally beat up a kid and his mother, members of a migrant family from Malda's Chanchal,' Banerjee wrote. 'Even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by the BJP in the country against the Bengalis!' It is unclear when the purported video was recorded. Banerjee's statement came on the day that the Trinamool Congress launched the 'Bhasha Andolan', a campaign against the alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking persons in BJP-ruled states. The Trinamool Congress chief had announced the protest on July 21 at the party's annual Martyrs' Day rally in Kolkata, saying that the fight to protect the Bengali language and identity would continue until the BJP was voted out. Assembly elections in West Bengal are expected to take place in March or April 2026. Her remarks also come amid Indian authorities pursuing a policy over the past month to 'push' individuals claimed to be undocumented migrants into Bangladesh. Many of those forced out of the country claim that they are Indian citizens. Reports of migrant workers from West Bengal living in BJP-ruled states, including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Delhi, being detained and deported under allegations that they were Bangladeshi citizens have also emerged. India has forced more than 2,000 persons, alleged to be undocumented migrants, into Bangladesh since the country launched ' Operation Sindoor ', a military operation against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The legality of the 'push back' policy has been debated in India and internationally. Experts have told Scroll that the policy violated India's obligations under international law and customary international law. In June, four men from West Bengal, who had been picked up by the Maharashtra Police and forced into Bangladesh, were brought back on June 15. The Murshidabad Police in West Bengal had presented proof of them being Indian citizens. On July 16, the Calcutta High Court asked the Union government if there was truth to the claims that Bengali-speaking persons were being deported to Bangladesh.
