Oman blank Iran to claim second Asian beach handball title
Oman's Asaad al Hasani and his teammates delivered solid performance and managed to end both match sets for their side as the opening half concluded at 21-18 while the deciding half finished at 14-10 to seal their victory and lift the Asian title. Oman's goalkeeper Hudhaifa al Siyabi became the man of the match following his top show.
Both Oman and Iran confirmed their attendance in the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships which will take place next year in Morocco while Pakistan claimed bronze medal following their thrilling win over Jordan in the third and fourth play-off on Thursday at the sands court of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

In the women's category, Vietnam emerged winners after finishing top in the group following their last match win against Philippines 2-0 as both teams clinched the two tickets to the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships for Women. India ended in third place despite their 2-1 defeat against Hong Kong.
At the end of the final match, HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association (OGA), the chief guest, delivered the medals and trophies to the top winning teams in both men and women categories.

The final ceremony of the Asian event attended by Dr Hassan Moustafa, International Handball Federation (IHF) President, in presence of Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, Chairman of Oman Handball Association (OHA), officials from both Asian Handball Federation (AHF) and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and top dignitaries.

DREAM COME TRUE
Oman head coach Hamood al Hasani said it was a historic moment for him as they managed to earn the title after many years from their first title. 'I am very pleased with the players performance in all the matches specially from the last game against Jordan in semifinals and against defending champions Iran in the final. Winning this title was a dream for us in this edition as we were fighting for it and it became true in Muscat. Special thanks to the players for their outstanding show despite the lack of preparations prior to the Asian tournament,' he said.
'Since last April, the players were in a busy schedule as they had played in the GCC Beach Games and then in domestic camps until the Asian event. I am very proud of them and now our focus will shift to have a proper plan for the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships,' he concluded.

Oman's star player Asaad al Hasani said all the team members had affirmed prior to the final for delivering their tremendous efforts. 'I am very glad with our achievement of winning this Asian title against the defending champions. This year is a special season for us as we ended as champions of Gulf and Asia. This will motivate us to do much better in the forthcoming participation at the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships. Our team is a mixture of young and experienced players and this will give us good chance to deliver our best in the global event,' he added.

Oman placed in Pot 1 for AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers draw
MUSCAT, July 28 The Oman Under-17 team was placed in the first pot for the upcoming AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers draw which is scheduled to take place on August 7 at the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Being seeded in Pot 1 was based to the national team's results in the last edition of AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia besides the 2023 edition of the same event. The top-seeded teams in Pot 1 included: Oman, Australia, Yemen, Iran, Thailand, China and Vietnam. These teams are considered regional powerhouses based on their recent performances and rankings at the continental level. The draw will also include teams placed in other pots according to their seeding as Pot 2 featured teams of Afghanistan, India, Malaysia, Iraq, Bangladesh, Laos and Kuwait. Bahrain are placed in Pot 3 besides Myanmar, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Palestine. Pot 4 comprised Syria, Mongolia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Jordan, Chinese Taipei and Brunei while Pot 5 saw teams of Nepal, Bhutan, Mariana Islands, Guam, Maldives, Timor-Leste and Lebanon. The last and concluding Pot 6 included: Macau, Sri Lanka and Pakistan teams. The qualifying matches are scheduled for November 2025 as the top teams will book their tickets to the AFC U17 Asian Cup finals while it is expected to be opportunities for the best runners up to join the teams in the Asian finals. In preparation for the qualifiers, the Oman Football Association (OFA) is expected to announce a new coaching team soon following the replacement of coach Anwar al Habsi, the former head coach. The announcement will be part of the OFA's wider plan to enhance technical readiness and ensure optimal performance during the qualifiers. Oman's U17 side showed solid performance during the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2025 which was held earlier in April. Despite the top performance by Oman team boys, the team narrowly missed out on qualification to the Fifa U17 World Cup. Oman began their campaign with a 2-1 loss to Tajikistan, but bounced back impressively with a historic 2-1 win over Iran, followed by a 2-2 draw with North Korea. Unfortunately, the result against North Korea meant Oman finished third in Group D with four points, just one short of North Korea's five points, who advanced as group runners-up. Tajikistan topped the group after stunning Iran 3-1 in the final group match.

Al Balushi wins Asian Taekwondo bronze in Malaysia
MUSCAT, JULY 27 Omani national taekwondo team player, Junior Qaboos al Balushi, achieved a remarkable milestone for Omani sports by securing the bronze medal at the 2025 Asian Taekwondo Championships. The event is currently taking place in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, with the participation of over 1,300 male and female athletes from 44 countries, including 406 junior athletes from 36 nations. Al Balushi, a member of Al Seeb Stars Taekwondo Academy under Master Waleed al Balushi, competed in the under-51 kg category. He advanced past the first round by draw, then delivered a strong performance in the second round by defeating a Malaysian player. In the semifinals, he faced a tough challenge from a Chinese opponent and, after a competitive bout, settled for a well-earned bronze medal. Qaboos al Balushi was the only member of the Omani team to stand on the podium at this prestigious continental event, claiming third place and adding a new achievement to Oman's taekwondo history. His performance reflects both his promising talent and the progress he has made, despite the tough level of competition. The national team delegation included the technical staff led by Master Fahd al Yousfi and coach Adel al Wahibi, as well as Dr Khalid al Mahrami, member of the Oman Taekwondo Committee. All praised Al Balushi's high-level performance against some of Asia's top athletes. Oman's representation in the championship featured a selection of talented male and female athletes: Muhannad al Balushi, Mutasim al Maskari, Ziyad al Balushi, Dawood al Yousfi, Aws al Sibani, and Qaboos al Balushi, along with female athletes Fida al Barwani, Dania al Abdali, and Rawan al Talai. Al Zadjali emphasised that the results inspire optimism, noting that the Asian Championships are considered the second most competitive event in the continent after the World Championships. Reaching the advanced rounds is an achievement in itself, given the presence of strong teams like Korea, China and Iran. He explained that Al Balushi's success was the result of a full year of comprehensive preparation at the academy, which included intensive training programmes, camps, match simulations, and performance analysis. He also highlighted the vital role of sports academies in talent discovery and development, pointing to a strategic partnership between Al Seeb Stars Academy and the Oman Taekwondo Committee aimed at supplying the national teams with ready and competitive athletes. Al Zadjali concluded by noting that upcoming international competitions are on the team's agenda, and that qualifying for the World Championships and the Olympics is among their long-term strategic goals. Queiroz proud to lead Oman as new coach
MUSCAT: The newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz expressed his deep sense of pride and responsibility in leading Oman's national senior football team, calling it a 'great gratitude and huge honour' to be entrusted with such a role. This statement was part of his first official interview published in different channels of the social media accounts of Oman Football Association (OFA) following his appointment and official signing function which took place earlier this week at OFA headquarter in Seeb Stadium. The veteran Portuguese tactician highlighted during the interview passionately about his ambitions, strategic approach and message to Oman's audience and fans.
