The Fairphone 6 leaks ahead of its rumored late June launch
Doing so grants access to the battery, which WinFuture notes is not glued down, though swapping it out will require you to remove a few additional screws. The back plates are available in three different colors – black green and white – which you're free to mix and match with to give the phone a more personalized look.
This being a Fairphone product, the battery unsurprisingly isn't the only removable component. If you know what you're doing, you can also replace the 50- and 13-megapixel main cameras and the 32–megapixel front-facing camera, as well as the display, speaker and USB-C charging port.
In terms of specs, the Fairphone 6 is fairly unremarkable, but you'd expect it to be at the rumored €550 (around $630) price point it'll reportedly retail at. As well as the aforementioned trio of lenses, it'll reportedly have a 6.31-inch 120Hz display, 256GB of internal storage (expandable via a MicroSDXC slot), 8GB of RAM and a 4,415mAh battery. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, so we're firmly in mid-range territory. The Fairphone 6's expected IP55 rating for water and dust resistance means it'll comfortably withstand a bit of rain, but likely won't take well to a dunk in the bath.
Of its predecessor, the Fairphone 5 , released (though not in the US) in 2023, Engadget's Daniel Cooper said: "If you're looking to pick up a mid-range handset that you can keep going for twice as long as any other phone on the market, and you want to do a bit of good in the process, this is probably the phone for you. It's not often the view from the moral high ground is this comfortable."

D.C. gets faster NextGen Acela trains this month
Amtrak's new NextGen Acela is launching on Aug. 28, updating rides between D.C., New York and Boston. Why it matters: Amtrak says the new trains have a "tilt system" for a "smoother, quieter ride," even at top speed of 160 mph. Zoom in: The interior is built with wide, ergonomic seats with USB power outlets and larger windows to maximize natural light. There are new dining menu options, and free 5G WiFi. After an initial rollout of five NextGen trains, all 28 are expected to enter service by 2028. Dig in: A new Cafe Acela will have more food and beverage options, including grab-and-go self-service checkout. First class dining has dishes from popular East Coast restauranteur Stephen Starr. Between the lines: The new trains are 10mph faster than today's fleet, and aim to have 27% more seats per departure.

Android 16's upcoming feature could wreak havoc on your phone's fast charging
Google has been making a big push to improve Android security over the past few years. With that in mind, Android 16 features a new "Advanced Protection" menu, offering various security features to enhance your phone's security. That includes "USB Protection," which is expected to arrive later this year. Unfortunately, USB Protection may come with a slight drawback. According to Mishaal Rahman at Android Authority, having USB Protection enabled is going to stop your phone from fast charging unless you unlock your phone first. According to Google, USB Protection is designed to "prevent physical attacks attempting to exploit the USB port by defaulting to charging only for any new USB connection while the device is locked.' In other words, when your phone is locked, your USB-C port will remain a power-only system. So it's going to stop any kind of USB-based attacks that try to exploit vulnerabilities in your phone and infect your system with god knows what. It doesn't matter if someone attempts this deliberately or if you're casually plugging any kind of USB device you find into your phone. Either way, it can only be a good thing and helps keep your phone more secure. All you need to do to restore USB access is unlock the phone. Which should be easy for you, and hard for others. Assuming your passcode isn't something ridiculously easy to crack like "1234." Rahman noticed the fast charging issue with the latest Android Canary release, which has USB Protection switched on. Code snippets also include dialogue that explicitly states that fast charging is disabled if you plug in while the phone is locked. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. It's not clear why this is the case, though Rahman speculates that it could be because of how some fast charging systems actually work. Since they need to transfer some data to determine the correct voltage and avoid causing damage, cutting off that data supply could mean the phone can't initiate fast charging. Which means your charger, regardless of how fast it can go, only provides the bare minimum. However ,Rahman noted that USB-PD speeds seemingly weren't affected. Either the fast charging protection hasn't been implemented, or USB Protection only affects proprietary fast charging protocols that do rely on transferring data. He admits that it's a little too early to say for sure. Thankfully, the solution is pretty simple. If your phone won't fast charge while it's locked, the dialogue says that you simply need to unlock the screen and plug the charger back in. Presumably, once the charging session has initiated, it will continue fast charging even if your phone locks again.

Anker Clears Out Its 13-in-1 USB-C Docking Station at an All-Time Low, Time to Clean Up Your Cable Chaos
Laptops are a huge help when it comes to working, because you can do it anywhere. Sure, that means you can work while commuting or at a temporary desk, and we respect that, but it also means you can work on your couch, or even in bed. Freedom is everything here, but sometimes you need a little bit more than your laptop can actually give you. In those times, it pays to have access to a good docking station, and you can currently get an amazing Anker 13-In-1 Docking Station for just $140, which is 30% off. That's a big discount, but it's also one that's not going to last forever, so if you are looking to boost the abilities of your laptop, act fast. See at Amazon A laptop dock allows you to just hook more things up to your laptop. Sometimes this is going to be more peripherals, sure, but a lot of the time it can be extra monitors as well. This can make it a lot easier to show off work, or even treat your laptop more like a PC at home if that's the kind of setup you have going on. Convenience is important, and a good laptop docking station is a huge deal on that front, and Anker is one of the best companies going on this front. This particular dock goes into a USB-C port and turns it into USB-A ports, HDMI ports, SD slots, audio slots, an Ethernet port, and USB-C ports as well. This makes it really easy to have everything running through the dock itself instead of your laptop, and that makes it way easier to treat your laptop like a portable core for your whole working life. You can even charge devices using it, but the fact that you can output visuals to up to three monitors at once is where it really shines, because it can allow you to show off specific work as you need to. It's just a really helpful device to have for creatives, freelancers, or just those who do a lot of travelling and project work. This beast of a docking station would normally cost you $200, so being able to get it for $60 is amazing. This 30% discount isn't likely to last for very long though, so you'd better be quick if you want to secure one before it expires and you have to pay full price. See at Amazon
