Arsenal transfer news: Eberechi Eze U-turn as Mikel Arteta warned over transfer error
Arsenal have enjoyed an active summer transfer window but still have more work to do in the market amid links to Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and exits are still required Little over three weeks remain for Arsenal to act in the transfer window. The Gunners are looking to form a squad capable of winning the Premier League and have already been busy. The north Londoners have signed Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres already this summer. That has not stopped Mikel Arteta's side being linked to the likes of Eberechi Eze however. Outgoings are perhaps more likely. There is uncertainty over the likes of Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Leandro Trossard could yet stay after being widely linked with departures. Andrea Berta's first summer window has been a busy one, with new contracts agreed too. Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Magalhaes have both being tied down in recent weeks. Transfer error? Former Liverpool forward Dean Saunders believes Arsenal and Manchester United may have made an error by not 'taking a chance' on Darwin Nunez. The Gunners signed Viktor Gyokeres this summer, while the Red Devils look set to land Benjamin Sesko. Uruguay forward Nunez is set to move to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal and is preparing to undergo a medical before completing a £46million move. Saunders has questioned the decision more teams have not looked at the Liverpool forward. "Nunez, he's up for grabs. Would you rather not have Nunez than Sesko and Gyokeres?' Saunders said on talkSPORT. "They paid a lot of money for them, and I thought, 'He's up for grabs.' I would take a chance on him." Saunders added: "He's got every finish in his locker, both feet, headers, he's gone round the keeper, he's slotted the keeper, he's chipped the keeper, he's scored from distance. "We've seen him do every finish, but somehow he manages to conjure up a miss – I don't know how many times he hit the post and the crossbar last season. There's definitely a player in there, you look at him and think, 'What a handful he is to play against.' "He scored a lot of goals for Benfica in his second season and a couple of seasons ago he got 20-odd for Liverpool. I wouldn't be surprised if Nunez goes somewhere else and scores 20 goals next season." Eze latest Arsenal are less likely to sign Eberechi Eze after Ethan Nwaneri signed a new contract. The Gunners are conscious of leaving room to provide the midfielder with playing time and ensuring a pathway for young star Max Dowman in the coming years, per Discussions took place earlier in the transfer window around Crystal Palace star Eze. If the Gunners had not been successful in extending Nwaneri's stay, the requirement to sign a central player in Eze's mould would have been high on the agenda but now the north London side's more pressing needs could be elsewhere. Arsenal in talks Brighton are in discussions with Arsenal over another loan deal for Lionesses hero Michelle Agyemang. The 19-year-old attacker, was the standout young player of Euro 2025 with her impact from the bench for England, was on looan with the Seagulls last term. Arsenal are delighted with the player's progress and are keen to ensure Agyemang continues to play regular football. The teen hit five goals in 22 appearances at Brighton last season and the south coast side are making good progress in negotiations for another loan agreement. Brighton are currently regarded as frontrunners to re-sign Agyemang as the Gunners look to manage her development.

Paul Skenes continues home dominance in Pirates' shutout of Reds
August 8 - Paul Skenes tossed six shutout innings and struck out eight to lead the host Pittsburgh Pirates to a 7-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night. Despite allowing a career-high seven hits (five singles), Skenes (7-8) delivered another dominant performance to bolster his case for the National League Cy Young Award. Skenes also beat the Reds for the fourth time in four starts in his career and first time this season. Jared Triolo and Henry Davis each had two hits and two RBIs to give Skenes more than enough of a cushion to secure a win for the third time in his past four starts. It was Skenes' third consecutive start with eight or more strikeouts. It was also the Pirates' fifth shutout of the season in a Skenes start and their 14th overall shutout. It was the Reds' 10th shutout loss. Skenes lowered his major-league best ERA to 1.94 and continues to be exceptionally good at PNC Park, where he has not allowed an earned run since June 3. Bryan Reynolds, who also had two hits, homered in the first inning off Reds' starter Brady Singer (9-9), who lasted only 3 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on six hits, walked four and struck out two. Reynolds' home run came with two outs. Singer proceeded to issue three consecutive walks to Oneil Cruz, Andrew McCutchen and Jack Suwinski to load the bases, setting up a two-run single by Triolo, which gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead. Cruz and Spencer Horwitz each had an RBI and Davis belted a two-run home run off Reds reliever Brent Suter in the bottom of the seventh. Gavin Lux had three hits, and TJ Friedl and Matt McLain each had two hits to lead Cincinnati offensively. But the Reds went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base. McLain and Elly De La Cruz hit back-to-back singles off Skenes with one out in the first. But Austin Hays grounded into an inning-ending double play to end the threat. -Field Level Media

Estimated £2.5m lost to football ticket scams as fans urged to be cautious
Football fans are being urged to watch out for ticket scams when buying match tickets for the upcoming Premier League season, as a bank estimates that £2.5 million has been lost in recent years. Victims lost an average of £218 each last season, according to Lloyds. More than 2,400 cases of football ticket fraud were reported by Lloyds customers over the past two seasons, with total losses topping £500,000. The bank estimates that nationally there are likely to have been at least 12,000 victims since the start of the 2023/24 season, with more than £2.5 million stolen by fraudsters. Supporters of Liverpool are most likely to have been affected, followed by fans of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City, Lloyds' figures indicated. Cases also involved fans of Celtic and Rangers, while Wrexham AFC also featured in the data. Supporters aged 25 to 34 were the most common victims, making up 28% of cases, closely followed by 18 to 24-year-olds (26%). The Government has joined Lloyds to issue a warning to supporters as part of its Stop! Think Fraud campaign. Around three-quarters (76%) of football ticket fraud cases last season started on social media, according to Lloyds' data. Scammers post fake adverts or listings on social media, offering tickets at discounted prices or for sold-out games. Victims are asked to pay upfront – often by bank transfer – but the tickets do not arrive and the fraudster disappears. Liz Ziegler, fraud prevention director at Lloyds, said: 'It's easy to get swept up in the buzz of a new season, but scammers are banking on that excitement. 'With demand for tickets often outstripping supply, fraudsters know they can trick fans into paying for tickets that simply don't exist.' Lord Hanson, minister for fraud at the Home Office, said: 'Fraud is a ruthless crime that preys on our passions, our trust and our excitement. 'As the nation gears up for the new football season, so too do fraudsters, waiting to take advantage of loyal fans searching for tickets. 'More than three-quarters of football ticket scams last season started on social media, with what seem like genuine 'first come, first served' offers all too often designed to rip off desperate fans. 'That's why we urge all football supporters hunting for tickets to Stop! Think Fraud. Stay alert and only buy directly from the clubs, their official partners and legitimate resale outlets. 'None of us wants to miss a big game, but that will feel 10 times worse if you've also handed hundreds of pounds to a fraudster for a ticket you'll never see.' Sajni Shah, a money expert at Compare the Market, said: 'Stay alert to red flags like overly cheap tickets being sold over social media or sellers pushing you to make fast payments via online platforms. If something feels too good to be true, it probably is.' Here are some tips from Lloyds for football supporters to protect themselves from ticket scams: 1. Do not let 'fomo' (fear of missing out) make you rush into a decision you will later regret. Take a moment to stop, think, and check if the offer is genuine. 2. Stick to official sources. Buy tickets directly from official Premier League club websites, ticket offices or their authorised partners. The Premier League website has a safe-buying guide to help fans when buying tickets. 3. Do not move away from an official payment platform to make a direct payment via bank transfer or virtual currency. Use the website's recommended payment methods.
