Arsenal transfer news: Eberechi Eze U-turn as Mikel Arteta warned over transfer error
Little over three weeks remain for Arsenal to act in the transfer window. The Gunners are looking to form a squad capable of winning the Premier League and have already been busy.
The north Londoners have signed Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres already this summer. That has not stopped Mikel Arteta's side being linked to the likes of Eberechi Eze however.
Outgoings are perhaps more likely. There is uncertainty over the likes of Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Leandro Trossard could yet stay after being widely linked with departures.
Andrea Berta's first summer window has been a busy one, with new contracts agreed too. Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Magalhaes have both being tied down in recent weeks.
Transfer error?
Former Liverpool forward Dean Saunders believes Arsenal and Manchester United may have made an error by not 'taking a chance' on Darwin Nunez. The Gunners signed Viktor Gyokeres this summer, while the Red Devils look set to land Benjamin Sesko.
Uruguay forward Nunez is set to move to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal and is preparing to undergo a medical before completing a £46million move. Saunders has questioned the decision more teams have not looked at the Liverpool forward.
"Nunez, he's up for grabs. Would you rather not have Nunez than Sesko and Gyokeres?' Saunders said on talkSPORT. "They paid a lot of money for them, and I thought, 'He's up for grabs.' I would take a chance on him."
Saunders added: "He's got every finish in his locker, both feet, headers, he's gone round the keeper, he's slotted the keeper, he's chipped the keeper, he's scored from distance.
"We've seen him do every finish, but somehow he manages to conjure up a miss – I don't know how many times he hit the post and the crossbar last season. There's definitely a player in there, you look at him and think, 'What a handful he is to play against.'
"He scored a lot of goals for Benfica in his second season and a couple of seasons ago he got 20-odd for Liverpool. I wouldn't be surprised if Nunez goes somewhere else and scores 20 goals next season."
Eze latest
Arsenal are less likely to sign Eberechi Eze after Ethan Nwaneri signed a new contract. The Gunners are conscious of leaving room to provide the midfielder with playing time and ensuring a pathway for young star Max Dowman in the coming years, per football.london.
Discussions took place earlier in the transfer window around Crystal Palace star Eze. If the Gunners had not been successful in extending Nwaneri's stay, the requirement to sign a central player in Eze's mould would have been high on the agenda but now the north London side's more pressing needs could be elsewhere.
Arsenal in talks
Brighton are in discussions with Arsenal over another loan deal for Lionesses hero Michelle Agyemang. The 19-year-old attacker, was the standout young player of Euro 2025 with her impact from the bench for England, was on looan with the Seagulls last term.
Arsenal are delighted with the player's progress and are keen to ensure Agyemang continues to play regular football. The teen hit five goals in 22 appearances at Brighton last season and the south coast side are making good progress in negotiations for another loan agreement.
Brighton are currently regarded as frontrunners to re-sign Agyemang as the Gunners look to manage her development.

Man Utd use secret weapon in Benjamin Sesko transfer after learning from Erling Haaland snub
Manchester United have beaten competition from Newcastle to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig after relying on the expertise and relationships of one of their staff Benjamin Sesko has made the leap from RB Leipzig to Manchester United in a £74million transfer – and there will be one familiar face at Old Trafford. Sesko has snubbed a move to Newcastle in favour of joining United, who have paid £66.4m up front plus a further £7.6m in potential add-ons. The 22-year-old striker will slot into Ruben Amorim's new-look front line, alongside fellow new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. United's press release announcing the capture of Sesko makes it clear how delighted they are to land the Slovenia international in what they view as a coup, given their lack of European football this season. 'The desire that all of our new signings have shown to join the club this summer highlights the appeal and stature of Manchester United,' said director of football Jason Wilcox. That may well be true, but Wilcox also has one of his colleagues to thank after landing Sesko from under Newcastle 's nose. Christopher Vivell was instrumental in getting the deal over the line, thanks in large part to his connections with Sesko and his agent Elvis Basanovic. Vivell only joined United last summer, initially as an interim director of recruitment, but by February he had secured the role permanently. Omar Berrada, who joined the club from Manchester City last summer to become chief executive, had pushed for Vivell's arrival, having got on well with him in their previous roles. The 38-year-old German left Chelsea under a cloud in July 2023, just seven months after arriving as technical director. But Berrada and United were not fazed and brought him in. They are now seeing the fruits of that decision. Vivell has a good reputation in Germany, where he began at Hoffenheim before joining the Red Bull Group. That is where he encountered Sesko, signing him for Red Bull Salzburg initially before bringing him to sister club Leipzig in 2023. Sesko scored 39 goals in 87 games for Leipzig, attracting plenty of Premier League attention, including from Arsenal. And while he cited United's history and the project laid out by Ruben Amorim as reasons for joining, he also was encouraged by Vivell's presence, having had only good experiences in his previous two moves involving the German. Sesko isn't the only highly rated young striker who Vivell has snapped up in his time, as United well know. Back in 2019, United wanted to sign Erling Haaland from Molde, having been given a recommendation by then-managed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But they did not succeed in chasing the Norwegian superstar, who snubbed a succession of bigger clubs to join Salzburg, having been courted by Vivell. 'The big clubs wanted him too,' he later explained. 'But they wanted to do a loan programme, which neither his father nor Erling wanted. That's why we managed to bring him to us.' Vivell worked with former United manager Ralf Rangnick at Red Bull and also tried to hire Erik ten Hag for Leipzig before he left Ajax for United. Those connections are incidental compared to those with Sesko, which helped land who United hope will be the answer to their goalscoring woes.

Man United splashing cash on new strikers adds pressure on Amorim to deliver
After their worst season in 51 years last term, the only way is up for Manchester United. Complete with a new £200 million (€230 million) strike force, coach Ruben Amorim has the backing of fans to bring about lasting change. Now he must deliver. From the start, Amorim has always said, given the choice, he would not have taken on the monumental task of awakening English football's most successful club from its slumber when he did, mid-season. Advertisement The Portuguese coach insisted he was given a "now or never" ultimatum before succeeding Erik ten Hag last November, taking an underperforming side to plentiful lows – worst finish, most defeats, fewest points and fewest goals in their Premier League history. Amorim asked supporters to judge him after he had a full pre-season to instil his ideas properly. Three new forwards gives him greater tools to succeed. Such spending comes as a surprise. New co-owner Jim Ratcliffe insisted only in March that the club were so low on cash when his company Ineos bought a minority stake in late 2023 they faced going "bust by Christmas". RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is expected to be confirmed as a United player this weekend and could be flanked for next week's season opener against Arsenal by exciting forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who both have something United attackers of late have lacked – Premier League goalscoring pedigree. Advertisement As United slumped to an unfathomable 15th last term, the concession of 54 goals was their joint-third worst defensive record in Premier League history. It was their inability to score that proved more damaging, however. They mustered a record-low 44 league strikes, five fewer than in any Premier League season. "The hardest part of last season was to go to the games and know that we are not going to be competitive,' Amorim told reporters on the club's pre-season tour of the United States. "Nowadays I'm better, I'm more excited. I also think I learned a lot. We will be a better team. Not just because I truly believe that we can be better, but I truly believe that I will be better at managing this season. Advertisement "Now we are in a better place, but we are just beginning. We have to perform. And I really like the pressure. If I have the feeling that before the game we are going to be competitive, we'll be OK. I just don't want to return to that feeling that we are thinking it's not a 50-50 game.' Supporters have been buoyed that new signings have not been put off by the fact United will not be competing in any European competition this season for the first time in 11 years. Mbeumo and Sesko especially had plenty of other clubs reportedly interested in them, but the pull of United, despite being without a league title since 2013, remains. "From the start, I wanted to join this massive club," Mbeumo said after signing. "Now I'm here, I'm just really happy. For me, it's the biggest club in the world. The fans are crazy, the stadium is amazing. Every player wants to play here." Advertisement More new signings are needed across the team for any major improvement this season, however. Skipper Bruno Fernandes labelled the last US tour performance in a 2-2 draw with Everton as "lazy" and called on the club to make more additions before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month. Otherwise, their trip across the Atlantic was unanimously positive. With a starting line-up retaining nine of the team that performed so poorly in their Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur, United looked energised and, at times, entertaining in a 4-1 win over Bournemouth, while also beating West Ham to finish unbeaten in their three-match series. Amorim faces some daunting early fixtures, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea in their opening five games. Nonetheless, he needs to harness some rare positivity gleaned from scoring some goals over pre-season to at least start setting United back on the right path.
