Patience pays off for Ireland's World Cup bound O'Dowd

Ireland prop Niamh O'Dowd said that she felt her chance to start for her country "was never going to come".O'Dowd has won 15 caps for Ireland but had to bide her time to establish herself in the front row alongside Linda Djougang and Neve Jones. She impressed in the WXV1 series and then made her first Six Nations start this year against France after being involved in the squads in 2023 and 2024 without getting on the pitch. After a try-scoring performance in Saturday's win over Scotland, she is now preparing for a first World Cup with Ireland, who will take on Japan, Spain and New Zealand in Pool C."It felt like I was never going to get my chance but when I eventually did, I had to take it with both hands and hold onto it, it timed well with the cycle when I started to get opportunities," she told BBC Sport NI."I did spend a lot of time on the bench or as a reserve, but looking back, not that I don't regret any of it, but I learnt a lot in that time without the pressure of starting and it was a time for me to get my skills up to scratch."I also learnt about not taking anything for granted and to work hard so I know now I've earned everything."Ireland have finished third in the last two Women's Six Nations, an improvement on finishing bottom of the table in 2023.And O'Dowd is proud of the progress made under Scott Bemand after a difficult period."My first Six Nations in 2023 was a very tough time for the group, we weren't getting the results we wanted, and it was tough to watch the girls," she added."Now we have been on an upward trajectory and we're on the right path and are constantly improving."

NRL star Mitchell Moses is busted in wild act that would get him in HUGE trouble in any workplace in Australia

Parramatta halfback Mitch Moses was caught delivering an almighty on-field spray to his new teammate Tallyn Da Silva while the match was on the line against the North Queensland Cowboys. The Eels moved four points clear of last-placed Gold Coast with a stirring 19-18 win over North Queensland at CommBank Stadium on Sunday. Moses booted the winning field goal with five minutes left to give the Eels their seventh win of the season and help them leapfrog the Cowboys into 13th spot with four games to play. However, with 10 minutes left in the match and the scores level, Moses exploded at Da Silva after the youngster decided to run the ball himself instead of passing to his teammates. Parramatta players looked incredibly frustrated by Da Silva's decision, with Moses caught on camera appearing to yell: 'Tallyn, you f***ing c**t!' Following the match, the skipper was asked about the incident by Bryan Fletcher on Fox Sports' Sunday Night with Matty Johns. 'Yeah, it happens on the field … was a tense game,' Moses explained. 'We'll learn a lot of lessons from that I think. We've got a really young squad at the moment and it's better to learn the lessons winning the game than having a loss.' Footy fans online were divided over Moses' fiery outburst, with some branding him a bully. 'What p**s-weak leadership from Mitchell Moses. Absolutely pathetic,' posted one X user. 'That's not a leader that's a bully,' agreed another. Others backed the Parramatta captain for his actions. 'The game was on the line. He is the captain. Did his job!' posted one user. '100% right he was to berate him, he will be better for it and 10 mins later he was celebrating,' said another. Cowboys coach Todd Payten took a cheeky dig at Mitch Moses for diving in an obstruction call that denied his side a late try On Monday morning, Andrew Voss addressed the incident on SEN radio, saying Da Silva played the 'worst four or five minutes at dummy half in the history of the game'. 'I don't think I've seen a dummy half make so many mistakes and errors of judgement in a short period with his team getting in front by one,' Voss said. 'The on-field berating by Mitchell Moses... that's happened plenty of times. (But) It happened three times in five minutes, how do you come back from that? 'Was it fair game? Mitchell Moses lost his you-know-what. And I can understand it. I can imagine Parramatta fans losing it.' Cowboys coach Todd Payten took a dig at Moses post-match, claiming that the halfback dived in a crucial obstruction call in the last 30 seconds of the game. 'I thought the on-field referee got it right. I've seen Mitchell dive over the years plenty of times,' he said. However, Payten later admitted the call was correct. 'I always think about putting myself on the other side and I think it was the right call in the end,' he said.

Crusaders to show off new roofed stadium in Christchurch 'Super Round'

Aug 11 (Reuters) - Super Rugby Pacific champions Canterbury Crusaders will host the return of the competition's 'Super Round' in Christchurch next season and show off their new home stadium. Super Round, which sees all teams descend on a single city for a weekend of matches, was scrapped last season following the demise of the Melbourne Rebels, who hosted previous editions at their home stadium. The concept's return will see the Crusaders open the 11th round of the 2026 season on the Anzac Day weekend (April 24-26) at the new One New Zealand stadium. Anzac Day is a public holiday celebrated in Australia and New Zealand, commemorating military service members who fought and died during wartime. The One New Zealand stadium, which boasts a roof and 25,000-seat capacity, has long been in the making following a 2011 earthquake that devastated Christchurch and ruined the Crusaders' old home ground, Lancaster Park. The Crusaders have played out of Rugby League Park since the earthquake. "This event is bigger than rugby, it's a celebration of One NZ Stadium coming to life," Crusaders boss Colin Mansbridge said in a statement on Monday. Super Rugby Pacific have yet to confirm the full draw for the weekend but the Queensland Reds will play the Auckland Blues and the ACT Brumbies face the Wellington Hurricanes on April 25.
