Russia must not let economy slip into recession, says Vladimir Putin
Russia's economy must under no circumstances slide into recession, President Vladimir Putin told an economic forum on Friday, in a clear instruction to assembled government ministers and central bankers.
The Bank of Russia hiked its key interest rate to the highest level since the early 2000s in October, but cut by one percentage point to 20% earlier this month.
The Kremlin has said this easing did not go far enough, as the economy threatens to cool too quickly after running hot for two years thanks largely to huge increases in defence spending.

He claimed that Moscow's longstanding ties with both countries make it uniquely positioned to help broker peace. 'We are not imposing anything on anyone; we are simply talking about how we see a possible way out of the situation,' he said. 'But the decision, of course, is up to the political leadership of all these countries, primarily Iran and Israel.' Provisional merit list for diploma to degree, pharmacy courses declared
Ahmedabad: The admission committee has declared the provisional merit list for Diploma to Degree (D2D) admissions for engineering and pharmacy courses for the academic year 2025-26. A total of 13,471 candidates were included in the list, comprising 13,301 diploma engineering students, 170 diploma pharmacy students, and 203 applicants from other states. For the 13,692 students who registered, the merit list was declared on Friday. The mock round choice filling began on Friday and will remain open until midnight of June 24. Candidates can edit their preferences during this period. After the deadline, choices will be auto-locked. The mock round result will be announced on June 27. According to AICTE guidelines, eligible diploma engineering students may apply for any branch in degree engineering. The committee has advised students to fill in the maximum number of available choices to enhance their chances of securing admission. The final merit list will also be published on June 27. New Delhi: Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday alleged that BJP was using FIRs as a distraction tactic to hide its own failures in governance. Sisodia was called by the anti-corruption branch in a case related to alleged corruption in the construction of classrooms in state-run schools and was questioned for nearly three years. The former deputy chief minister, who had also the education department in AAP govt when the tenders for the construction of classrooms were floated, alleged that BJP was using investigations to divert attention. "Just like all previous probes led to nowhere, this one will also come to nothing," Sisodia said. He claimed that the ruling party had "failed" to do any "meaningful work" in Delhi since assuming office in Feb and "wasted" 100 days "without improving electricity, water, education or healthcare". "BJP, driven by political vendetta, is misusing its agencies to register FIRs in cases where there is no wrongdoing. This is a completely politically motivated case.
