Russian President
Vladimir Putin
on Friday said he was worried when asked whether he feared the world was moving towards a potential World War III, reported news agency Reuters.
Speaking at an economic forum in St.
Petersburg, Putin noted that global conflict risks were increasing.
He pointed to Russia's own war in Ukraine and the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran. Putin also raised concerns about developments around nuclear facilities in Iran, where Russian specialists are currently constructing two new nuclear reactors for Tehran.
"It is disturbing. I am speaking without any irony, without any jokes. Of course, there is a lot of conflict potential, it is growing, and it is right under our noses, and it affects us directly," said Putin.
He added, "And this requires, of course, not only our careful attention to the events taking place, but also the search for solutions, the search for solutions, preferably by peaceful means, in all directions."
Putin also said that Russia plans to expand military and technical cooperation with "friendly countries" by jointly producing weapons and training military personnel.
The Russian President said Moscow aimed to modernise its own armed forces by equipping them with the latest weapons and technology.

"We will harness new technology to improve the combat capabilities of the Russian armed forces, modernise military infrastructure facilities, (and) equip them with the latest technology and weapons and equipment," he said.
Putin emphasised that Russia's cooperation with friendly nations would go beyond arms supplies or equipment upgrades.
"At the same time, we intend to develop military-technical co-operation with friendly countries.
And we are talking not only about supplies or the modernisation of equipment and weapons, but also about joint development, personnel training, and the creation of turn-key enterprises and production facilities," he said, according to Reuters.
On the economic front, Putin said Russia planned to strengthen trade ties with its partners by removing barriers, opening new market opportunities, and deepening investment cooperation.
Putin has already offered to mediate between Iran and Israel amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. He claimed that Moscow's longstanding ties with both countries make it uniquely positioned to help broker peace.
'We are not imposing anything on anyone; we are simply talking about how we see a possible way out of the situation,' he said.
'But the decision, of course, is up to the political leadership of all these countries, primarily Iran and Israel.' Putin acknowledged the complexity of the crisis, saying 'it's a delicate issue,' but said that a solution to the conflict is possible.
'In my view, a solution could be found," the Russian president said. His comments come at a time of growing concern that Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and the potential for a wider war could draw in other regional and global powers.

Tweak in homestay policy triggers chaos
Mysuru/Chikkamagaluru: With the state tourism department deciding to approve the homestay permissions only through online and increase the number of permissions from various departments required to set up a homestay, the entire sector is now reeling under confusion. The tweak in the policy has now caused chaos in the homestay sector, which is the lifeline of Malnad tourism. Previously, a no-objection certificate from the police and the gram panchayat were sufficient for homestay business. However, the tourism commissioner now has issued a new circular requiring no-objection certificates from the police, forest department, fire department, zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat, town panchayat and municipality, food department, and health department, CRZ and power supply companies for the same. As per the circular, under the new system, the homestays will be extended various concessions and supports under the state tourism policy 2024. The new circular sent shock waves across the sector as homestay owners feared that getting NoCs from so many departments will result in red tapism, and rampant corruption. 90 applications yet to be processed With state govt proposing an online permission system, the district administrations followed delay tactics to renew the licences of the existing homestays. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beat the Rush: The $42 Serum Costco Shoppers Swear By Best Of Beauty Learn More Undo For example, in Chikkamagaluru district renewal applications of 90 homestays are yet to be processed. NR Tejasvi, president of the Homestay Association, Chikkamagaluru said for the past two decades, we have been engaged in the homestay business in rural areas. However, since last year, despite submitting the necessary documents for homestay licences, the district administration has been delaying the renewal process. If any incidents occur at the homestays, the owners are held directly responsible, and their licences are cancelled, he said. Despite submitting several requests to the district administration regarding homestay renewals, the officials claim that due to new guidelines, it cannot be done immediately causing distress to homestay owners, he said. Homestay Association Kodagu district president Monti Ganesh said the state govt assured bringing homestay NoCs under the ambit of Sakala services. "So, the website is being updated. Homestay owners should not get worried," she said. Meanwhile, tourism minister HK Patil justified the decision to further tighten the mandatory requirements for the homestays. "To streamline, and ensure safety of the tourists who visit homestays, we took this decision," he said, adding we did it to streamline the industry. The minister also made it clear that the state govt is ready to help the homestays if they really face any issues to run business.

Chellanam residents intensify protest seeking permanent solution for sea erosion
Kochi: Hundreds of Chellanam residents took out two protest rallies on Friday demanding immediate measures to prevent sea erosion. Expressing solidarity with the people, priests from the Alappuzha and Kochi dioceses held a hunger strike near the Thoppumpady BOT bridge, demanding the construction of a sea wall from Kannamally to Fort Kochi as an immediate solution to the issue. As the monsoon showers intensified, Chellanam experienced the highest ever sea surge in recent years. As more than 500 houses were affected by sea surge, the residents of Kannamaly and Puthanthodu regions of the Chellanam panchayat held a protest on Monday. The protesters also staged a blockade on the Alappuzha-Fort Kochi state highway. The rallies and the hunger strike on Friday were the continuation of these protests under the banner of 'Care Chellanam' collective. The mass rallies that commenced at 3.30pm from Palluruthy and Thoppumpady Santhom Junction concluded at the venue of the hunger strike. While the hunger strike which began at 10am at the BOT Junction was inaugurated by Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council vice-president Joseph Jude, a rally by priests from St Sebastian Church, Thoppumpady, was inaugurated by Kripasanam director Joseph Valiyaveettil. Varapuzha archdiocese auxiliary bishop Rev Antony Valunkal spoke at the event. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The sea wall in the panchayat's coastal areas was damaged in the 2017 cyclone Ockhi, accelerating the sea erosion. Following coastal residents' protests, the govt allocated Rs 340 crore for constructing a 12.5km sea wall from Chellanam fishing harbour towards the north, but only 7.35km was completed. The area from Puthenthode to Fort Kochi is currently experiencing intense sea erosion and construction has been completely halted. "Many homes here are either partially or completely destroyed, making them uninhabitable. We are expecting high waves next week as the sea becomes more powerful with the new moon. If authorities now send back people from relief camps to homes, they will have to return to the camp again next week. Since the temporary sandbags and geo bags were completely destroyed in the recent sea surge, the high waves expected during the new moon will severely affect the area," said general convenor of Chellanam-Kochi People's Forum V T Sebastian. Forum members also demanded that the govt should provide rental houses or pay rent for those living in damaged houses. The rallies were flagged off by KCBC secretary general Rev Thomas Tharayil and Kerala Latin Catholic Association state president Sherry J Thomas. The concluding meeting was inaugurated by Kottapuram diocese bishop Rev Ambrose Puthenveettil.
