Lioness legend Millie Bright teaches teens football in new TikTok initiative
Lioness legend Millie Bright, OBE has become one of the biggest faces of TikTok's free #SummerSkills programme, which plans to teach teens everything from sport to literature to wellbeing without leaving the app.
There's no need to be too surprised. While TikTok has a reputation for brainrot, it's actually fast-becoming one of the UK's biggest learning tools. According to TikTok research, 88% of British teens surveyed (aged 16-19) are turning to the app for educational content. They also found that 44% use TikTok to discover new interests and 40% say they're using TikTok to find how-to tutorials.
This also comes at a time when trends such as #Booktok and #songwriting are on the rise. In fact, there are currently over 60.9 million hashtags under 'booktok', while 'songwriting' boasts over 572 thousand – proving that the app is becoming something of a creative hub.
Plus, many parents don't know how to keep their kids occupied over the long summer months. TikTok's same research found that 87% of British parents feel stressed planning their teen's holidays and almost half say they don't know how to.
So, to help fill the gap, TikTok's summer skills programme is running for the five weeks of UK summer holidays. It kicked off on July 23 with Sports Week, which features sports lessons from Chelsea FC Women's captain and England international Millie Bright, who is taking teens through the 'Do's and Don'ts of defending 1v1', as well as football self-care recovery.
Millie Bright said: 'I'm delighted to have joined the TikTok #SummerSkills programme to inspire teens to learn new football skills over the Summer holidays. Anybody can learn a new skill as long as they are curious, so grab your friends and family, and challenge them to try something different – you might just surprise yourself.'
Other weeks include STEM Week, which will be partially taught by a particle physicist at CERN, Literature Week, which will be hosted by poet Chloe Carter, Music Week and Well-being Week. Teens can simply access the content by typing in #SummerSkills or #LearnOnTikTok on TikTok, or hopping on a TikTok LIVE. They can also follow the account @TikTok_UK to discover new skills each week.
TikTok has also said it is committed to encouraging healthy digital habits during the programme. This includes measures like all under-18 user accounts having a 60-minute time limit and the introduction of new tools like the in-app meditation feature, which encourages users to wind down after 10 pm.
Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. We'd love to hear from you!
Dominic Burns, TikTok's Head of Operations, UK, Ireland and Nordics, said: "We know that TikTok is a place where teens come to discover and learn, particularly through our dedicated STEM feed and communities like #BookTok and #LearnonTikTok.
'We're thrilled to bring the TikTok #SummerSkills programme to parents and teens to help them learn new skills together during the holidays, from football tricks to songwriting, poetry to science experiments, TikTok creators will bring these skills to life each week throughout the summer.'
He added that the initiative will complement TikTok's ongoing work to provide parents with tools and resources through the 'Family Pairing' feature 'to ensure teens have a positive experience on our platform." The Family Pairing feature came into effect in 2020 and is a tool that allows parents and guardians to link their TikTok account to their child's account – giving them access to control and privacy settings.

Eddie Howe makes Alexander Isak transfer statement as Newcastle reality becomes clear
Alexander Isak's future at Newcastle is now front and centre in the transfer market and Eddie Howe admits he is not the one calling the shots regarding the Swede's next move Eddie Howe has underlined that Alexander Isak is "still our player" amid the uncertainty surrounding his Newcastle future - but admits he's not in "full control" of whether the player stays or goes. The Swede has made it clear he wants to explore his options away from the Magpies - with Liverpool his most likely destination if he does depart. It would take a British-record fee before Newcastle did choose to sell up this summer however. Isak is not part of the club's pre-season tour at present and Howe admitted there are no plans for him to join his team-mates in the Far East. Injury is thought to have kept him at home, but the club are equally trying to control the noise around his future. Howe is yet to lose one of his leading lights since taking charge at Newcastle. The club have been able to warn off suitors when the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon have been linked with the exit door, but Isak's situation presents a new challenge. The Newcastle boss said: "He is still our player. He's contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that's not in my full control" Newcastle would demand £150m before they considered cashing in on Isak, who has just enjoyed the best season of his career. He scored in eight straight Premier League games, one being against suitors Liverpool. He also netted against the Reds as the Magpies won the Carabao Cup back in March. It has proved to be a difficult summer for Howe, who has seen a number of his targets head elsewhere. The likes of Joao Pedro and James Trafford have opted for other moves and now he accepts there will be a collaborative approach regarding the future of Isak, who he does want to keep. He said last week: "There's a whole football club that has to make the decision. The ownership, together with the board of directors, especially with the money involved in modern day transfers. The manager of course has an opinion, but ultimately the decision will rest with the board." Newcastle have reportedly identified the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Yoan Wissa as possible replacements should Isak leave. Sesko was recently on Arsenal's radar before they signed Viktor Gyokeres whilst Manchester United are keen on Watkins. Catherine Zeta-Jones gives rare insight into ‘tearful' moment with kids ahead of Wednesday season 2
The Oscar winner opened up about her family Wednesday star Catherine Zeta-Jones has shared a rare insight into her personal life while making season two of the Netflix hit, reports WalesOnline. The forthcoming season, which will controversially be split in half, sees Pugsley Addams (played by Isaac Ordonez) heading to Nevermore Academy to join his older sister Wednesday (Jenna Ortega), and 55-year-old Oscar winner Zeta-Jones admitted it was an emotional affair both for her character and herself as she drew parallels to her own children. Opening up about shooting the moment, The Chicago and Crash actress said: 'I have a lovely scene with Pugsley where I say, 'Good luck,' as he embarks on his first day. And Morticia sees in him all those nervous things about it being your first day at school, which is always traumatic for the person going to school, and also for the parent. 'But on a personal level, I don't think I ever didn't cry when I dropped off my kids for the first day of school. Each year, it was something, another challenge for them.' Zeta-Jones is married to Hollywood icon Michael Douglas with the couple sharing two children Carys Zeta Douglas, 22, and Dylan Douglas, 24. Watch Wednesday on Netflix for free with Sky from £15 Sky Get the deal here Product Description She went on to say how the scene not only reminded of her seeing her children off to school, but also reminded her of being a maternal older sister to her younger brother Lyndon Jones. The actress explained: 'So it's wonderful. In the writing, you see the dynamic of Wednesday having a sibling at school. 'I remember that, too, in my personal life. I remember my little brother coming to the school. I was a little bit parental.' But the parallels between Zeta-Jones' personal life and Wednesday don't end there after she opened up about the mother-daughter dynamic between Wednesday and Morticia in season two. Zeta-Jones detailed: 'Mother-daughter relationships are varied. Some of them are at loggerheads during certain times in their life. 'Wednesday Addams and Morticia Addams' relationship is beautiful, it's encouraging, it's contentious, it's fraught. It's all those things a mother-daughter relationship goes through, which is a wonderful experience as a mother and not so much as a daughter. I speak from experience.' Adding: 'To be able to play those in Wednesday is something that's very important and something that's very real.' Season two has been split into two parts and sees Wednesday trying to unravel another deadly mystery and face new foes in the twisty corridors of Nevermore. There will be some fresh faces, with the likes of British icon and Absolutely Fabulous' Joanna Lumley joining the cast as Wednesday's Grandmother Hester Frump, Back to the Future and The Addams Family star Christopher Lloyd as Professor Orloff, Westworld 's Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Rachael Fairburn, Hollywood legend Steve Buscemi as Principal Dort, and Doctor Who actress Billie Piper as Isadora Capri. Further new cast members include Devs' star Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nayo as Sheriff Ritchie Santiago, Owen Painter as Slurp, Noah B. Taylor as Bruno, and Evie Templeton as Agnes DeMille.
