Revealed: Three Kaizer Chiefs captains without armbands

From the day he donned Kaizer Chiefs' badge, Inacio Miguel has carried himself with a quiet authority. He's not just a figurehead, he's part of a leadership engine that pulls the entire squad forward.
This confidence and aggression have proved vital in lifting morale and performance early this season, with two wins out of two over Stellenbosch FC and Polokwane City.
The 29-year-old Angolan was officially named the new captain after Yusuf Maart left Amakhosi to play his football in Austria for SV Ried.

The former Petro de Luanda star has settled seamlessly into the role, but has been quick to point out that the weight of the captaincy extends far beyond himself. Leadership, he insists, is shared.
According to the Kaizer Chiefs skipper, his teammates Brandan Petersen, Zitha Kwinika, and Reeve Frosler are captains without armbands.

'I always heard people saying that brings a lot of pressure,' Miguel said via iDiski Times.
'I don't see it as a pressure, I see it as a responsibility, as a privilege, but as the previous one that was sitting here, Beza [Brandon Petersen] for me, it's the biggest example that you don't need to have the armband to be the captain.
'And inside of the group, the team that we are creating this season it's not only me, that has the armband that I'm the captain. We are all captains inside of the group.
'We have the example of Zitha [Kwinika], for example he didn't play much last season but for me, and I'm honest, I have to be honest with you, same for me Zitha is the captain of this team.
'Beza also is the captain of this team. Reeve Frosler also is a captain of our team. So of course, I have the armband.
'I have to give the face. I will take the responsibility, as you said, not embracing pressure, I'm just being the image of Kaizer Chiefs captain in and off the pitch with a lot of responsibility. But also a lot of pride and the joy, because it's all about that it's a privilege to be a Kaizer Chiefs captain,' concluded Miguel.

Don't ask me for trophies, says new Kaizer Chiefs captain

Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel is relectant to make promises despite Amakhosi's good start to the season. The 29-year-old defender says the team is more focused about winning the next match than winning trophies. Having taken over the armband from Yusuf Maart this season, Miguel has been solid in two games as his side is yet to concede. 'We're not focused on the other teams, you know we are focusing on ourselves and our job what we can do better,' he told the media. 'I think we have nothing to do with the other team's results If we don't focus on ourselves, we can do nothing different from the last season. 'So personally, I don't care about the other teams' results; I care about my team. I care about the way that we work and the way that we win that game. That's the most important for us, focusing on ourselves,' Miguel added. The Kaizer Chiefs captain said he can't create expectations and tell fans what they want to hear. 'I think the fans of Kaizer Chiefs, more than anything, deserve the truth,' he added. 'They deserve us to be honest. I'm very honest with myself. I have a lot of people that on the streets and tell me, Miguel, this season we'll lift another trophy. 'Listen, I think the most important thing is that they have to understand that we have to go game by game. We can't create expectations, because then from the expectation it will come the disappointment, I don't want disappointments on the fans,' the Kaizer Chiefs captain said, 'So, what I can promise to the fans is nothing but hard work, every game, every training. We will be there, and we'll try to do our best to bring the trophies that they want. 'But don't ask me for trophies, ask me to win games, ask me to go game by game. If we win game by game, we will probably achieve our goals. It will be easy, but as I said, I don't want to disappoint them,' he concluded. Why Kaizer Chiefs fans should be excited about the arrival of Asenele Velebayi

Got their man Asenele Veebayi has recently completed his move from Cape Town Spurs to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs. Photo: Kaizer Chiefs on X Image: Kaizer Chiefs on X After one of the longest transfer sagas in the history of South African football, Kaizer Chiefs have finally got their man and confirmed the signing of Asenele Velebayi. While Cape Town Spurs will continue to fight, Velebayi joins Chiefs on a free transfer after the Western Cape side were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season. His arrival also comes at a time when Chiefs are entering a second season under Nasreddine Nabi, a coach who demands energy, bravery, and creativity in the final third. Nabi's sides play with purpose and attacking intent, constantly looking to stretch defences and create overloads in dangerous areas. That philosophy aligns perfectly with Velebayi's natural game – a willingness to take risks, drive at opponents, and create opportunities out of nothing. Next Stay Close ✕ Chiefs Welcome Velebayi to Naturena We would like to announce the signing of Asanele Velebayi. The Cape Town-born winger has signed a long-term contract with the Club. Welcome to the Kaizer Chiefs family!#WelcomeVelabayi #Amakhosi4Life — Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) August 12, 2025 So, what can the 22-year-old from Philipi in Cape Town offer the Soweto giants? First of all, despite his young age, he is mature, and has been playing professionally for five seasons. He is also comfortable in multiple attacking roles – primarily a right winger, but equally effective on the left or in an advanced midfield role. Chiefs have been desperate for attacking spark, and Velebayi brings exactly that – a creative, unpredictable presence who can beat defenders, excite the crowd, and unlock stubborn backlines. His speed, and ability to take on defenders will also come in handy. Over the last couple of seasons, Chiefs have not had unpredictable players who can wow the crowd and leave defenders flat-footed. Another area where Velebayi thrives is his productivity during games. He is able to put the ball on a plate for strikers to score, something the club have been struggling with of late. And, because he was entrusted with the captain's armband by his former club, he is also a good leader on the pitch. This is a signing that Amakhosi's scouting department got right for once. If he hits the ground running, Velebayi could become a game-changing force on the wing, leaving defenders scrambling and transforming Chiefs' frontline under Nabi's fearless, attack-minded approach – finally giving the Amakhosi faithful the unpredictability they've been craving.
