Another Congress MP, Ashok Singh, moved a separate notice, seeking clarity and discussion on the
Bihar SIR
exercise.
Additionally, Congress Rajya Sabha MPs Neeraj Dangi and RajPatil also submitted Suspension of Business Notices under Rule 267, reinforcing the call for a thorough discussion on the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists in Bihar.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will again reconvene at 11:00 AM today.

On the fifth day of the monsoon session of Parliament, the Lok Sabha is set to discuss key legislations, including the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill and the Merchant Shipping Bill 2024, on Friday.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will move the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in the Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, for its passage along with amendments.
"That the Bill for enabling reservation of seats in accordance with article 332 of the Constitution for effective democratic participation of members of Scheduled Tribes and to provide for the readjustment of seats in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa, in so far as such readjustment is necessitated by inclusion of certain communities in the list of the Scheduled Tribes in the State of Goa and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto, be taken into consideration," the list of business notice issued by Lok Sabha read.
Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will move the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, for its passage in the Lower House.
The Bill aims to consolidate and amend the law relating to merchant shipping to ensure compliance with India's obligation under the maritime treaties and international instruments to which India is a party and also to ensure the development of Indian shipping and efficient maintenance of Indian mercantile marine in a manner best suited to serve the national interest and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto, be taken into consideration.

EC acting beyond its jurisdiction, says Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee
Trinamool Congress general secretary and party's leader in the Lok Sabha Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday (August 7, 2025) slammed the Election Commission (EC), accusing it of acting beyond its jurisdiction. 'They are going overboard. The EC also needs to understand that it is an impartial and unbiased organisation, and it has to operate while remaining within the ambit of the Constitution,' Mr. Banerjee told media persons while leaving for Delhi. The Trinamool Congress leader said the EC's responsibility would begin only when the model code of conduct was in place and the poll body would take over the State's civil and criminal/police administrative machinery in its own hands so that the election was free, fair, and impartial. The remarks by Mr. Banerjee came a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she would not let the EC suspend any government officials. On August 5, the EC had sent a letter to the West Bengal Chief Secretary directing suspension of four officials attached to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the State. 'Our officers have been sent notice that they have been suspended. Has election been declared? Under which laws are you sending notice and threatening to suspend and saying that that FIR should be registered. This will not happen. I won't allow punishment to the officers,' the Chief Minister said. She had accused the EC of working at the behest of the BJP. Mr. Banerjee, the Diamond Harbour MP, accused the EC of playing an 'active and shameless role' in denying legitimate voters their democratic rights. 'Now the EC has taken a shameless role to snatch the voting rights of genuine voters,' he alleged. Later in the day, Mr. Banerjee met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The Trinamool leader said his party wanted the House to function. 'We have sought a discussion on the special intensive revision (SIR). Our MPs have been giving adjournment motions for the past 4-5 days. They have demanded discussions, but the Centre is not allowing it. We have told the Speaker that if required, discuss with the Centre and then allow us to debate on the SIR,' he added.

"When you win elections, the Election Commission is good. When you win elections, EVMs are good. But, when you lose, then you raise allegations and blame everyone. He said the people of Maharashtra taught the real betrayers a lesson in the 2024 assembly elections. "They did not even win a mandate to be recognised as the Leader of the Opposition. "When I meet Modi ji and Amit bhai, they make a lot of noise and claim that I have gone to meet my masters. We are proud to meet the people who have contributed to the development of Maharashtra. These are the people who brought Balasaheb's dreams to reality by removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya," Shinde said.

Often repeated by him on various global and social media platforms, most of these tend to be either inaccurate or unverified. But they do, however, reveal a disturbing trend of falsehoods to promote a rhetoric divorced from reality and, at times, undermining India's global standing and sovereign decisions. In wake of his latest announcement of 50 percent tariff on India, an analysis of his statements about the country – whether it is about the high tariffs against the US or the purchase of Russian oil – can throw light on his misinformed claims that exaggerate his role in regional diplomacy or simply disregard facts and India's official stance. Here is a simple fact check: 'INDIA IS A DEAD ECONOMY' This is another oft-repeated claim by Trump, often linking his diplomatic efforts to trade pressure. 'We've been very successful in settling wars. You have India, (and) Pakistan… India, by the way, Pakistan would have been a nuclear war within another week the way that was going. That was going very badly, and we did that through trade. I said we're not going to talk to you about trade unless you get this thing settled, and they did, and they were both great, great leaders, and they were great," he had said. India has firmly denied any US mediation stating that the ceasefire was a bilateral arrangement, initiated through existing military channels and not via external involvement. 'No world leader had asked India to stop the Operation Sindoor," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Lok Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said: 'I want to make two things very clear…one, at no stage, in any conversation with the United States, was there any linkage with trade and what was going on. Secondly, there was no talk between the Prime Minister and President Trump from the 22nd of April when President Trump called up to convey his sympathy, and the 17th of June, when he called up the Prime Minister in Canada to explain why he could not meet." 'INDIA STOPPED BUYING RUSSIAN OIL' India denied any such claim made by Trump that it had, in fact, stopped buying Russian oil. 'Well, I understand India no longer is going to be buying oil from Russia. That's what I heard. I don't know if that's right or not, but that's a good step. We'll see what happens," he had said, just a few days before he imposed additional tariffs on India for the very same reason. 'INDIA IS TARIFF KING' Trump has labelled India as the 'tariff king" and an 'abuser" of trade duties, suggesting the country unfairly protects its markets through high customs duties. But data shows that India's simple average tariff, which comprises levies on both agriculture and non-agriculture products, is around 16 percent. This is in the same league as Bangladesh (14.1%), Turkey (16.2%) and Argentina (13.4%). India's weighted average tariff, however, is only around 4.6 percent.
