Discovery's 35th celebrated further with new special edition models
Having celebrated its 35th anniversary last year, JLR has introduced another pair of special editions to the aging Discovery range ahead of the model's rumoured discontinuation before the end of the year.
Following the commemorative 35th Anniversary Edition, the new variants carry the Gemini and Tempest designations as step ups for the S and flagship Metropolitan variants.
Gemini
For the Gemini, which gets its name from the internal moniker used for the 2.5 Tdi engine in the original Discovery, the added visual enhancements include 21-inch diamond turned silver seven-spoke alloy wheels, the gloss Narvik Black roof, a Gemini graphic on the B-pillar and an Atlas Grey finish around the grille and on the Discovery name script.

Not stopping there, the Gemini further receives gloss black detailing, first-time availability of the Sedona Red paint option previously reserved for the Defender, tri-zone climate control and a cooled centre console glovebox.
Tempest
The step-up from the Metropolitan as mentioned, the Tempest takes its name from the internal development code given to the second generation Discovery, with a more extensive array of bespoke changes both inside and out compared to the Gemini.
Available in three colours, Carpathian Grey, Varesine Blue and Charente Grey, the Tempest gets Petra Copper and tinted gloss black lacquer 22-inch diamond turned alloy wheels as standard, along with a Petra Copper gloss or gloss Narvik Black roof, a unique Tempest decal on the B-pillar and Petra Copper detailing.
Unique inside fittings consist of the extended Ebony Windsor leather upholstery and so-called shadow aluminium inserts.
Diesel only
Otherwise unchanged from their respective sibling on the specification front, underneath, both the Gemini and Tempest retain the 3.0-litre Ingenium straight-six turbodiesel engine – the sole option across the entire Discovery range as the previous P360 straight-six petrol has been dropped entirely.
Fitted with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, the unit develops 257kW/700Nm and is again paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.
Price
Now available, both the Gemini and Tempest, as with the rest of the Discovery range, are covered by a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan.

JLR South Africa prices returning Carbon-clad Range Rover Sport
Return of the Carbon edition after five years sees it replacing the SV Edition Two and to some extent, the SV Black Edition. The range-topping of the previous generation, JLR has revived the Carbon edition for the latest generation Range Rover Sport that, once again, becomes the range's top spec variant. Seemingly replacing the SV Black that premiered last month, the Carbon, as with the Black and other special editions, is the work of JLR's SV Bespoke division, hence the newcomer's official moniker being SV Carbon. Once again based on the normal SV, which replaced the supercharged SVR, the SV Carbon only gains bespoke cosmetic and interior changes, with the drivetrain and mechanicals being unchanged. As per its name, the Carbon's aesthetic additions comprise carbon twill weave detailing, an exposed carbon fibre bonnet as an option, the carbon exterior pack as standard, anodised black brake calipers and the active exhaust system with quad outlets. Also standard are 23-inch alloy wheels, though buyers can choose from a range of designs, including a lightweight 23-inch carbon option. Finally, the optional carbon ceramic brakes bring a choice of four colours for the brake calipers; black, yellow, blue or bronze. Inside, and as with the now discontinued SV Edition Two, the Carbon offers a choice of four what JLR calls themes. Amounting to the decorative inserts and material of the Windsor leather seats, the options comprise Ebony, Ebony and Rosewood, Ebony and Light Cloud, and a leather-free option called Ebony and Cinder Grey. SV illuminated treadplates, forged carbon inserts with a twill finish on the headrests of the seats and dashboard, and what SV Bespoke calls Moonlight Chrome detailing rounds the interior's additions off. As mentioned, no dynamic changes have been to the Carbon's chassis, meaning the continual inclusion of the 6D Adaptive dampers, the Active Torque Vectoring system, All-Wheel Steering and the Active Locking Differential. On the power front, the status quo also continues unchanged with outputs of 467kW/750Nm from the BMW-sourced 4.4-litre twin-turbo mild-hybrid V8. Connected to the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic gearbox, with drive going to all four wheels, the Sport SV Carbon will get from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and hit a limited top speed of 290 km/h. Similar to its siblings, it also gets the Dynamic Launch Mode system that adds an additional 50 Nm for a few seconds. Underpinning the vehicle is JLR's sophisticated 6D Dynamics suspension system, which includes hydraulic interlinked dampers, height adjustable air springs and a 48V pitch control system that replaces traditional anti-roll bars. Custom SV calibrations have been applied to the intelligent all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, torque vectoring by braking, configurable dynamics and active locking rear differential. These changes aim to enhance responsiveness and deliver a more focused driving experience. The Range Rover Sport SV Carbon will make its global debut at Range Rover House during Monterey Car Week on August 13. Local availability is expected from late 2025, with pricing starting at R3,822,300.
