Coimbatore District Police grope in the dark as highway robbers remain elusive
The special teams that went to different parts of Kerala in search of the accused reportedly returned to Coimbatore after they could not make progress, police sources said.
Jeweller Jaison Jacob, 55, of Thrissur and his employee S. Vishnu were targeted by a group of men, who intercepted their car on the highway at K.G. Chavadi around 5.45 a.m. on June 14.
While a truck waylaid Mr. Jacob's car near a fuel station, other gang members, who tailed the duo in another vehicle, struck at them. They carjacked Mr. Jacob, along with Mr. Vishnu, and robbed them of 1.25 kg of gold, before leaving them on the road after travelling for some distance. The robbery took place when the duo was heading to Thrissur, after purchasing gold from Tamil Nadu.
Police sources said that the truck used for waylaying the jeweller's car was found abandoned at Ettimadai a day later. The jeweller's car was found left on an interior road at Vazhukkal, close to the Tamil Nadu – Kerala border at Velanthavalam on June 16.
The police suspect that the robbers escaped to Kerala via Velanthavalam, after committing the crime on the busy Salem – Kochi highway at K.G. Chavadi.
Sources added that visuals from several surveillance cameras were examined to trace the vehicle used by the robbers to tail the jeweller's car and then escape with the gold.
As the district police could not make significant leads in the case, they have sought the assistance of the Kerala police to crack it and nab the robbers.

The voice clip went viral on social media soon after her death.

Codename Ketamelon: NCB says it has busted India's biggest darknet drugs syndicate
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday said its Kochi zonal unit busted 'India's most prolific darknet drug syndicate' operating under the name 'Ketamelon'. NCB sources said it arrested one Edison (35), a native of Muvattupuzha in Kerala's Ernakulam district. They alleged that he is currently the largest darknet vendor of drugs in India and is the country's only 'Level 4' darknet vendor who has been operating actively over the past two years. An associate of Edison has also been arrested, but the NCB has not revealed his name. Edison, an engineer, was allegedly sourcing drugs from the UK and has a network across India, officials said. According to the NCB, the name Ketamelon derives from the vendor's involvement in ketamine smuggling. 'Drugs were primarily sourced from a UK-based vendor, Gunga Din, believed to be the largest LSD source in the world,' the agency said. 'If fewer than 1,000 LSD blots were seized in Kerala in a year, this person was supplying around 10,000 LSD blots across the country in a month. He was remanded in judicial custody, and we will seek his custody for further investigation,' sources said. In the operation codenamed 'MELON', the NCB said it seized large quantities of LSD and ketamine — 1,127 LSD blots and 131.66 grams of ketamine — as well as crypto assets worth Rs 70 lakh. The suspect had established a widespread network, shipping LSD to major cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Bhopal, Patna, Delhi, and regions in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, officials said. Over the last 14 months, 600 shipments were allegedly sent out by him. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately Rs 35.12 lakh, with LSD blots priced at Rs 2,500-4,000 each. The NCB said that after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering, 280 LSD blots were intercepted on June 28 from three postal parcels in Kochi. 'Investigation in this regard confirmed that these parcels were booked by the suspect. During a search of his house on June 29, 847 more LSD blots and 131.66 grams of Ketamine were seized,' the NCB said. The suspect has allegedly been active in various darknet markets over the last two years. The NCB carried out a four-month probe to identify him. Intensive technical and physical investigations were carried out in this period to get to the accused, officials said. The NCB said that during searches, several other incriminating material were found, including a pen drive containing TAILS, a free and open source operating system protecting privacy and anonymity online, which was used to access darknet markets. Multiple cryptocurrency wallets and hard disks with incriminating documents were seized, officials said.

DA case: VB takes Majithia to his office in Majitha, conducts searches
Amritsar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday took Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia to his office in his home constituency Majitha in Amritsar district amid high security for investigation and search in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) registered against him. Ganieve Kaur Majithia, wife of SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, arguing with SSP (rural) Maninder Singh at Majithia on Tuesday. Majithia was arrested on June 25 from his Amritsar residence under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly laundering over ₹ 540 crore of 'drug money'. Currently, he is in VB custody and is scheduled to be produced in court on July 2. The SAD leader was escorted to his office in a convoy of about a dozen vehicles, with heavy police deployment and barricades securing the area several hours before the VB team's arrival. The office, located on the Amritsar-Majitha road, is a place where Majithia meets the public to address grievances and local issues. On arrival, VB officials stayed inside the office for about an hour. Apart from the caretaker's wife, no other person was present on the premises prior to the team's entry. Mediapersons were barred from accessing the office during the search. Majithia's wife and sitting Majitha MLA Ganieve Kaur was not permitted to meet him or enter the office, despite her repeated requests to police officials, including Amritsar rural SSP Maninder Singh. Kaur arrived at the site along with SAD leaders and members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), but was stopped at barricades a few yards from the office. An argument ensued between Kaur and police officials, with Kaur questioning the legality of the restrictions and demanding to see search warrants. She expressed concerns over the absence of legal counsel during the search, alleging that the VB could potentially plant evidence. Police officials cited orders from senior authorities and the need to maintain law and order as reasons for denying her entry. Kaur was forced to wait outside the office for over two hours despite her protests and refusal to sit in the police office as suggested by officials. Earlier on Monday, the VB had conducted searches at properties linked to Majithia's relatives in Himachal Pradesh. After the VB team left for Mohali, the office was reopened to Majithia's supporters and family members. SAD supporters raised slogans against Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann and his government during the occasion. On Monday, former Akali leader Maninder Singh Aulakh, also known as Bittu Aulakh, who is now with the BJP, and Amritsar-based businessman Jagjit Singh Chahal recorded their statements against Majithia at the vigilance office in Sector 68, Mohali. Over the past five days, the vigilance bureau has also recorded statements from former Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya, former ED deputy director Niranjan Singh and former MLA Amarpal Singh 'Bonny' Ajnala. In the fresh FIR registered against Majithia, the bureau claimed preliminary investigations revealed that more than ₹ 540 crore of 'drug money' has been laundered through several ways and it was allegedly facilitated by Majithia. This FIR against Majithia stems from an ongoing investigation being conducted by a Punjab Police special investigation team into the 2021 drug case. In 2021, Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The action was taken on the basis of a 2018 report of the anti-drug special task force. Majithia spent more than five months in Patiala jail and walked out of prison in August 2022 after the Punjab and Haryana high court granted him bail.
