Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is set to make its debut on Apple silicon Macs on July 17, Apple has announced. The game will be available through the Mac App Store, as well as platforms like GOG.com, Steam, and Epic Games Store. This release brings the full base game along with the Phantom Liberty expansion to Mac users, leveraging the capabilities of Apple silicon and Metal technology for optimal performance. Apple confirmed that only Macs equipped with their silicon chips and running macOS 15.5 or later will support the game effectively.advertisementThis edition is specifically tailored for Apple silicon, supporting Macs with 16GB or more of unified memory. These specifications ensure smooth gameplay, sharp visuals, and enhanced battery life. The game also supports features like Spatial Audio, providing an immersive auditory experience, particularly with AirPods' Head Tracked Spatial Audio. These enhancements highlight the game's optimisation for the Apple hardware ecosystem.Distinctive features have been integrated into the game to enhance the gaming experience on Macs. The "For this Mac" graphics presets are specifically optimised for different models of Apple silicon Macs. Additional features include MetalFX upscaling and AMD FSR upscaling, optimised for Apple silicon to provide superior graphics quality. Users can also benefit from dynamically calibrated HDR for Apple XDR displays and enjoy cross-progression across all supported platforms.
The game's integration with Apple's Tile-Based Deferred Rendering (TBDR) architecture is noteworthy. This approach is designed to reduce CPU overhead and make full use of Apple's MetalFX technology, enhancing both performance and visual quality during gameplay.Apple's upcoming Metal 4 features, announced during WWDC 2025, promise further enhancements. Future updates to Cyberpunk 2077 will include MetalFX Frame Interpolation and MetalFX Denoising, aimed at achieving higher frame rates and improved visual fidelity. The MetalFX Frame Interpolation will generate intermediate frames to stabilise frame rates, while MetalFX Denoising will enable real-time path tracing. These advancements are expected to offer smoother gameplay and richer visuals. With the Mac release, players using a range of Apple devices from M1 to M4 chips, including the latest Mac models like the iMac and MacBook Pro, can expect a highly tuned gaming experience. Each device's capabilities are carefully considered to ensure the game performs optimally across different hardware configurations. The inclusion of comprehensive updates and free content further enhances the value of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Mac. Jack Dorsey's offline messaging app Bitchat now available on App Store: More details inside

Bitchat, Jack Dorsey's new project, is now officially live for Apple users. It is available on the App Store and brings a refreshing change to messaging apps. You do not need mobile data, a Wi-Fi connection, or even a registered account to use it. The app runs on a Bluetooth-based mesh network system. If your phone has Bluetooth on, it will automatically connect with others running Bitchat nearby. As people move, their phones relay messages across short distances. So, even without direct contact, your message may still reach its destination. Bitchat does not ask for your name, email, or number. You open it and start chatting. All messages are encrypted, stored locally, and deleted after a short period. There are no backups or cloud storage involved. Your data stays on your device and nowhere else. This makes the app suitable for temporary or emergency communication, such as during power cuts, natural disasters, or public events. There is no tracking, and nobody can access your messages once they vanish. Dorsey developed this app as part of a new open-source group. It supports a wide range of Apple devices, from iPhone to Vision Pro. The interface is clean and simple. It is ideal for people who value privacy and want a tool that does not depend on big tech servers. However, a disclaimer is included. The team behind Bitchat warns users that the app has not been tested by external security professionals. Until such a review is done, the app should not be used for confidential or sensitive messaging. Still, the idea behind Bitchat is promising. As more users explore ways to stay off the grid, apps that offer freedom from logins and network dependency could become more popular. With its App Store launch, Bitchat gives everyone a chance to try this new way of connecting.

Apple is doing in China what it has never done since its first store opening in 2008

In a first, Apple will close one of its retail stores in China after establishing its presence in the country in 2008. The Apple Store in question is the one situated in Dalian City Parkland Mall and it is set to cease operations on August 9. This move signals Apple's response to a reportedly challenging retail environment, as locals have described the Parkland Mall as struggling, noting that other major brands like Michael Kors and Armani have also recently closed their outlets there. 'Given the departure of several retailers at the Parkland Mall, we have made the decision to close our store,' The New York Times quoted Apple spokesman Brian Bumbery as saying. He said that the company remains committed to the Dalian community and that 'all of our valued team members will have the opportunity to continue their roles with Apple.' Apple plans new store in China amid tough competition The report also said that Apple plans to open a new store in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen this month. With this new opening, the company expects to maintain its total number of stores in China at 58 by the end of 2025, the same figure it held at the beginning of the year. The news comes at a time when China is facing broader economic challenges, particularly with consumer spending. Despite significant government programmes designed to stimulate purchases of goods like smartphones and electric vehicles, economists caution that any boost to consumption may be short-lived, the report said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Meanwhile, Apple's has ongoing business struggles in China, which stands as its second-largest market. iPhone 17 Pro leaks suggest third camera control, enhanced zoom, and new Pro camera app

The new iPhone 17 Pro might gain a new camera feature as a few of the purported test units of the premium smartphone were reportedly being tested around San Francisco, United States, ahead of the official launch event which is slated for sometime in September this year. Until then, these purported test units of the latest Apple iPhone may have given away what the new camera feature might be. The iPhone 17 Pro may include three hardware and software camera features, according to a report by a tipster from MacRumors. The leak about the additional camera features first emerged on July 29, through an ongoing advert shoot for the iPhone 17 Pro. This advert reportedly led to some sightings of the iPhone 17 Pro in the city. A secondary camera control was positioned near the top edge of the device, according to the report. If this new feature is a capacitive touch scroll surface, its placement seems logical. One could hold the iPhone in landscape orientation with the primary Camera Control accessible to the right index finger, and this new feature positioned beneath the left index finger. The purpose of this setup has been debated. Moving these features to a separate hardware component might be a solution, especially if Apple has responded to feedback indicating that the swipe surface functionalities overly complicate the existing Camera Control button. Alternatively, Apple might link the zoom feature to the left button so that the right button is not needed for mode switching. According to MacRumors, a tipster on July 27, revealed three new camera features. One of these was the third external camera control, which has now been confirmed. The tipster also suggested an 8x optical zoom, an upgrade from the 5x zoom in the iPhone 16 Pro. They claimed that the lens can move to focus continuously at different focal points. Lastly, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature a new Pro camera app for both photos and videos, though it remains unclear whether this app will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro models. The second week of September is expected to see the official unveiling of Apple's upcoming flagship, the iPhone 17 Pro. According to multiple reports, including from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the launch event is scheduled for either Monday, September 8, 2025, or Wednesday, September 10, 2025. 'Apple is probably going to have its iPhone 17 keynote on Tuesday, September 9, or Wednesday, September 10,' Gurman said. Pre-orders are expected to open by Friday, September 12, with global sales likely commencing from September 19. This information is also supported by an ongoing advert shoot for the iPhone 17 Pro.
