Over 30 arrested on outstanding warrants by gardaí in Askeaton
More than 30 people were arrested by gardaí on Tuesday as part of a major multi-agency crackdown on outstanding warrants in Askeaton, Co Limerick.
Those arrested for various alleged offences were bailed and remanded to appear in court at later dates.

The 'day of action' involved many arms of the State's authorities, including local gardaí, armed Garda units, Garda Roads Policing Unit. Revenue Customs Officers, Road Safety Authority, Limerick City and County Council Dog Warden Service, and the Department of Social Protection.
Firearms checks, road traffic checkpoints, as well as strategic patrols, were conducted in the west Co Limerick town throughout the day.
Gardaí attended at a number of residential homes in the town as part of the operation, in what was the fifth successive day of action across the Limerick County Garda Community Engagement Area, following similar operations in Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West, Rathkeale, and Kilmallock over the last few months.
Gardaí said their goal was to respond to the needs of communities in tackling varying issues such as anti-social behaviour, road safety, and compliance with various legislation.
The 'days of action' are well-planned in advance and require plentiful resources and logistics, as well as the cooperation of the Courts Services to deal specifically with a large number of warrants at short notice.

Woman receives plastic surgery on injuries after pitbull attack which killed pet
The son of a woman who suffered leg injuries after she was bitten by a pitbull dog who also mauled her pet to death, is appealing for witnesses to the incident. The shocked mother is recovering from plastic surgery needed on her injuries suffered in her ordeal which occurred in Navan, Co Meath, on June 5th last around 1.30pm. The woman's son Eric, who didn't want his mother identified, said they are devastated over the death of their beloved dog. Sadly, their 10-year-old Jack Russell 'Prince' died as a result of horrific injuries which left his intestine exposed. The attack occurred in a field at the back of Lidl supermarket and the Beaufort College on the Trim Road, which, he says, is used locally by dog walkers. Advertisement "My mother was out walking with Prince when she met with a pitbull and its owner. Both dogs were off the lead and the pit bull was not wearing a muzzle," said Eric. "The pitbull started attacking Prince and my mother and the other owner tried to intervene. "The other owner managed to get his dog and my mother picked up Prince to save him but then the pitbull got away again and attacked my mother, biting her on the legs, until she fell. "The pitbull then attacked Prince again until its owner managed to stop him again and told my mother to run." Advertisement Prince underwent surgery and had 40 stitches to his abdomen and lower body at the veterinary clinic, but unfortunately didn't make it through the night. Eric's mother received treatment at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan before being transferred to Dublin's Mater Hospital for plastic surgery "She had two lacerations of between 6 to 10 cm long and punctures in her right leg. There were also bites on her left arm and lesser bites on her left leg. "She needed multiple plastic surgeries and is very shaken and sad over the loss of Prince. "I was with her at the vets, the hospital and gardaí and I'm finding it hard to sleep, thinking of what happened and what could have happened to my mother. Gardaí say they are aware of an alleged incident that took place in Navan, Co Meath, and inquiries are ongoing.

Man arrested over online posts relating to disorder in the North
A man has been arrested by detectives investigating online posts relating to recent disorder in Northern Ireland. The 32-year-old was arrested in the Larne area. No inquiry into garda gun sting linked to Carlow shooting
Fiosru, the garda watchdog, has said it did not investigate the sting operation in which undercover officers supplied guns and ammunition to Evan Fitzgerald, the Carlow man who opened fire inside a shopping centre before turning the weapon on himself. As there were calls for a full inquiry into the 'controlled delivery' of arms to Fitzgerald, Fiosru has moved to clarify that it got a notification about an 'incident of concern' from An Garda Siochana on May 21. Despite commentary that the garda ombudsman investigated the Fitzgerald case over a three-week period before deciding against taking further action, Fiosru has said it did not conduct a full inquiry into the matter. 'Fiosru did not undertake an investigation. As reported by the garda commissioner to the joint Oireachtas committee, Fiosru examined the information submitted by An Garda Siochana,' a Fiosru spokesman said.
