‘Hacks' Renewed for Season 5 at HBO Max
There's always more Deborah Vance to go around: IndieWire can announce that beloved HBO Max series 'Hacks' has been renewed for Season 5. The Season 4 finale is set to debuts May 29 on streamer HBO Max, with Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) looking to conquer late night TV.
The Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award-winning series is created and showrun by Emmy winners Paul W. Downs (who also stars), Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky. 'Hacks' is executive produced by Downs and Aniello via their Paulilu banner, and Statsky via First Thought Productions, as well as Emmy winners Michael Schur via Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment, Morgan Sackett, and Joe Mande. In addition to Smart, Einbinder, and Downs, the series stars Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato, and Rose Abdoo, plus Dan Bucatinsky, Helen Hunt, Tony Goldwyn, Kaitlin Olson, Jane Adams, Lauren Weedman, Christopher McDonald, Poppy Liu, Lorenza Izzo, Johnny Sibilly, Paul Felder, Polly Draper, Luenell, and Aristotle Athari. Season 4 marked the series debuts for Julianne Nicholson, Michaela Watkins, Bresha Webb, Robby Hoffman, Eric Balfour, Danny Jolles, Gavin Matts, Grover Whitmore III, Holmes, Jasmine Ashanti, Katy Sullivan, Matt Oberg, and Sandy Honig.
'We congratulate 'Hacks' singularly talented cast and crew and our great partners at Universal Television,' Sarah Aubrey, Head of Max Original Programming, said in a press statement.
Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television, added, 'Like Deborah Vance herself, 'Hacks' only gets bolder, sharper, and more iconic with time. We're beyond thrilled to keep the laughter rolling with Jen, Paul, Lucia, our extraordinary cast and crew, and our partners at Max.'
In total, 'Hacks' has garnered 48 Emmy nominations, including a Season 3 win for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show has been a top five series on HBO Max since its Season 4 debut in the U.S., and a top 10 series globally. According to HBO, Season 4 has been pacing as the series' best season yet and has achieved both domestic and global week-over-week growth every week so far this season.
The IndieWire review for Season 4 praised the comedy series for spotlighting its stellar ensemble cast, with critic Ben Travers writing, ''Hacks' has long made room for all the voices in its ace ensemble, but no one has been able to overshadow its leads, Smart (who has three Emmys for the role) and Hannah Einbinder as Ava (who should have at least two). In part, that's because both actors are delivering impeccable work, balancing their caustic comic chemistry with course, unbridled vulnerability.'
Travers teased that the Season 4 finale has its own conclusion while still making room for possible new directions, including perhaps even 'giving Poppy Liu's Kiki the DJ treatment in Season 5.' For next season, 'the floor will also always be incredibly high, given the talent involved,' Travers wrote. 'I just hope there are more rewarding fights ahead, for Deborah, for Ava, and for 'Hacks.''

Rosie O'Donnell is back on the small screen as a nun having the time of her life in ‘And Just Like That…'
Rosie O'Donnell has moved an ocean away from Hollywood, but she's still entertaining audiences. The actress and former talk show host shared with Variety how she ended up playing a lesbian nun having a New York City adventure in 'And Just Like That…,' which returned for its third season on HBO Max on Thursday. O'Donnell explained that she has long been friends with Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda on the comedy and its prequel, 'Sex and the City.' 'My daughter was actually her assistant on set,' O'Donnell explained. 'She put her on there, and then she said, 'By the way, Michael told me that he has a role for you. Are you up for it?' I said, 'Are you kidding me? In a minute!' I didn't even have to think about it.' O'Donnell has also known the show's creator, Michael Patrick King, for more than 30 years. 'When I was a young comedian, he was in a comedy duo called King and Mindy — Lisa Mindy and Michael King,' she said. 'I used to hang out with them at Catch a Rising Star and at the Improv. It's been pretty amazing to see the people that began together doing so well.' As for being gay in real life and learning that King had created a lesbian nun character for her, O'Donnell said, 'I laughed my a** off. I thought — I know how to play this character.' 'I was very, very happy to be doing all my scenes with Cynthia. It was not acting for me. I don't have to act in love with her, because I've been in love with her for many years,' O'Donnell said. 'I saw her in 'Wit,' on Broadway, and even though I had known her for very many years and was friends with her in a real way, when I went backstage, I was awestruck and couldn't find my words.' O'Donnell, who has also appeared on the HBO comedy 'Hacks' this season, said people like the character she plays, Mary, who discovers her sexuality later in life, are common. 'I know many women who only come to it in their 40s, and how hard it is when they set up a life with a man and children, and then they come to realize this basic thing about themselves,' she sad. 'I understand their struggle. It was a relatable character — somebody who, for all different reasons, wasn't able to be in touch with who they were, and then came to find the beauty that awaits the rest of her life.' She also reflected on having moved to Ireland from the United States. 'Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice,' O'Donnell said. 'People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here,' she added. 'They are not prioritized over other people. People are much more friendly and intimate with each other in a real way.' HBO Max and CNN are both part of Warner Bros. Discovery.

UFC Nashville headliner Derrick Lewis says he 'damn near had to beg' to get fight booked
Derrick Lewis is confused by inactive state of UFC's heavyweight division. It will have been a 14-month layoff for Lewis (28-12 MMA, 19-10 UFC) when he returns against Tallison Teixeira (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in the UFC on ESPN 70 headliner on July 12 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Lewis was scheduled to face Jhonata Diniz this past November at UFC Fight Night 246, but withdrew due to a medical issue which he refused to disclose. Advertisement Lewis vs. Teixeira will be the first heavyweight main event of 2025. "It's crazy that nobody's fighting right now," Lewis told MMA Junkie. "Heavyweight, I don't know what's going on. I damn near had to beg to get this fight, so I don't know what's going on. Hopefully we can stay active after this." The former title challenger is taking on another rising contender in Dana White's Contender Series graduate Teixeira, as he looks to string together his first winning streak since 2021. "I know he's Brazilian, and he's a tall guy," Lewis said of Teixeira. "He's a heavyweight, so pretty sure he's got knockout power. I didn't watch any of his fights yet, nothing like that, but my coach told me he's got a lot of first-round knockouts. ... I've been training for like four months now, non-stop really, down to every day, and I never did that before. I'm coming into this fight, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in great shape. My six pack will be back." Advertisement The two times Lewis fought an opponent who's 6 foot 7 or taller, he was able to knock out both Alexander Volkov and Travis Browne. "Yeah, I'm comfortable," Lewis said. "I like fighting tall guys. It aligns with my right hand. The way I throw my right hand, it aligns with it." Beyoncé Braves The Pouring Rain At MetLife Stadium In Ultimate ‘Cowboy Carter' Performance
Source: Alex Slitz / Getty As the Cowboy Carter tour bucks on, Beyoncé continues to give her fans exactly what they want (and paid a hefty sum for), even if that means she has to brave the elements to do so. During her fourth night at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium for her sold-out Cowboy Carter tour , Beyoncé didn't let a torrential downpour stop her from performing the nearly three-hour show with songs from her Grammy-winning album. Per USA Today , the rain came before the show began at a little after 8 p.m. local time, and the stage was thoroughly wiped down before Beyoncé went on. As she opened the show, Beyoncé addressed the large crowd and thanked them for their decades of support throughout her career. 'Thank you for your love, dedication and for your loyalty over 25 years,' she said. The rain continued throughout the entirety of the concert. Still, she proceeded on, and her fans were right there with her even though their carefully curated fashion ensembles and hairstyles were drenched. However, in true Beyhive fashion, if Beyoncé can deal with an obstacle then they will follow suit. Mama Tina Knowles praised her daughter for being the ultimate performer in an Instagram post. 'Oh my God !!! You cannot talk her out of flying and pouring down rain!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽Just had to get on my knees and pray❤️🙏🏽,' she captioned a clip of Bey flying through the air on a giant horseshoe. Towards the end of the May 28 show, she thanked her fans again, but this time it was specifically for braving the rain with her. 'Thank y'all for giving all this energy in the cold and rain. I love you deep deep deep,' she said. Beyoncé will take the stage at MeLife Stadium for a fifth night on Thursday, May 29. Her next tour stop will be across the pond to London, England for a six-night run of shows at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beginning June 5.
