Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia Madani Artificial Intelligence, a wholly owned entity of the Malaysian Government, and Presight, a UAE-based leading global AI and big data analytics company, announced a landmark agreement set to accelerate Malaysia's digital transformation. This collaboration will harness advanced AI and sovereign cloud infrastructure to strengthen national security, enhance government efficiency, and drive data-powered governance. The agreement, formally exchanged at the ASEAN-GCC Economic Forum 2025, marks a pivotal advancement in AI collaboration between the UAE and Malaysia, and is Presight's first major initiative in the Southeast Asia region. The exchange of agreements was conducted in the presence of His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia, and Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42. The partnership will see the two entities collaborate on a range of critical initiatives including the development of sovereign cloud infrastructure, AI solutions and applications for digital transformation across national safety, public security, and government efficiency. 'This partnership is uniquely strengthened by the UAE's proactive and pioneering efforts in artificial intelligence. Having embarked on its AI journey early, the UAE has made significant strides in both the practical application of AI technologies and the development of comprehensive governance frameworks. This rich experience, embodied by Presight, offers an invaluable foundation for Malaysia's own AI ambitions,' said His Excellency Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia. Security and checkout friction remain top concerns for UAE online shoppers
Security concerns continue to be the leading frustration for 40 per cent of online shoppers in the UAE, while nearly 37 per cent are irritated by the need to manually enter card details during checkout, according to Visa's latest Checkout Friction Report released on Monday. Despite the rapid growth of eCommerce and significant strides in advancing the UAE's digital economy, the report highlights that retailers still have room to improve the online checkout experience and boost customer satisfaction. The findings are based on a survey of 2,016 online shoppers across the GCC, including the UAE, and delve into common pain points in the eCommerce checkout process that impact both consumer satisfaction and business performance. Key insights include: - One in three UAE respondents (33 per cent) shop online for groceries multiple times a week. - For categories like fashion, entertainment, and electronics, shopping frequency ranges from once to several times a month. 'Challenges in the online checkout process have direct implications for businesses—leading to lost revenue and hindering both customer acquisition and retention,' said Salima Gutieva, Visa's Vice President and Country Manager for the UAE. 'Today's consumers expect—and deserve—a seamless and secure eCommerce experience. That's why Visa is collaborating with partners to implement solutions like Click to Pay, which uses biometrics and tokenisation to address key pain points and enhance convenience. These improvements not only drive business results but also support the UAE government's vision of a secure, digital-first economy.' The report also underscores the importance of security in online transactions: - 58 per cent of consumers are concerned about fraud or hacking when storing card details across multiple websites. - 42 per cent have experienced fraud or security breaches firsthand. There is strong consumer demand for a more streamlined checkout process: - 65 per cent favour a single registration for online payments across all participating merchants. - 67 per cent would opt for biometric authentication (e.g., fingerprint or face ID) over traditional methods like passwords or OTPs. For businesses, the message is clear: simplifying and securing the checkout process can significantly influence consumer behaviour. - 82 per cent of respondents said they would shop online more frequently and complete more purchases if a one-click checkout option were available. - 66 per cent expressed a high likelihood of using 'Click to Pay with Biometrics' if offered by online retailers. The UAE eCommerce market is projected to reach $12.28 billion in 2025, with expectations to grow to $21.18 billion by 2030, reflecting a CAGR of 11.52 per cent, according to Mordor Intelligence. The number of eCommerce users is expected to reach 5.7 million by 2029, with a user penetration rate of 49.6 per cent in 2025, increasing to 58 per cent by 2029.

Canadian University Dubai launches MSc in Design Innovation for Circular Economy
Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has launched a Master of Science in Design Innovation for Circular Economy (MSc DICE), to prepare graduates to lead the transition towards sustainable innovation and growth in the region. A first of its kind in the UAE, the programme will build skills capacity in support of the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021-2031 and the Centennial 2071 strategy, to decouple economic growth from resource depletion, emphasising innovation, clean production, and digital transformation. Set in the context of pressing environmental and social challenges, the MSc DICE will equip students with the tools to rethink products, services, buildings, urban systems, and policies through the lens of regeneration and circularity. Participants will explore key pillars of the circular economy, such as sustainable manufacturing, green infrastructure, transportation, and food systems, to become key players in shaping a resilient future. Students of the programme will develop transdisciplinary fluency, engaging in courses that span policy design, systems thinking, green finance, and entrepreneurship. Unlike conventional programs in the field, the MSc DICE is not just about minimising environmental impact, it focuses on restorative and regenerative design. By empowering students to rethink material cycles, adaptive reuse, modular systems, and green urbanism, it aims to help drive climate-responsive, socially integrated design across the region, moving beyond sustainability to create urban environments that restore ecological balance, promote biodiversity, and enhance social well-being. Within the curriculum, students will be exposed to real case studies, work with industry mentors, and undertake challenges issued by public and private partners, preparing them to lead policy-shaping initiatives, design start-ups, and implement sustainable strategies. They will also have opportunities to participate in research incubators, hackathons, and design sprints, tackling issues such as waste valorisation, urban mobility, or infrastructure resilience, often in collaboration with external partners. The MSc DICE also integrates emerging digital technologies as key enablers of circularity. Students will learn how to apply artificial intelligence, 3D printing and other advanced tools in designing infrastructures that reduce waste and foster innovative circular practices. As the UAE increasingly prioritises skills growth and professional practice in sustainable development and green technologies, graduates of this programme will be well-positioned to contribute meaningfully across a range of sectors, from design and policymaking to urban development and sustainable entrepreneurship. Speaking about the aim and significance of the program, Massimo Imparato, dean of the School of Architecture and Interior Design said: "The Master of Science in Design Innovation for Circular Economy aspires to nurture a generation of circular thinkers who will reshape the built environment, from policies to materials, from neighbourhoods to megastructures. Its legacy will be seen in buildings that give back, cities that thrive within planetary boundaries, and graduates who champion systemic change, contributing to the UAE's leadership in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and beyond. By offering the first advanced programme in the region fully dedicated to design-led circular innovation, we aim to establish CUD as a pioneer in green transition education. Through partnerships with industry, R&D platforms, and public institutions, the MSc DICE will position CUD at the forefront of applied circular economy strategies, reinforcing the UAE's role as a regional and global leader in sustainable innovation."
