Charlie Dobson shocks Matt Hudson-Smith to win 400m in London
He said: 'I really enjoyed that one. I kind of set the race up slightly different to how I'd done previously. I got to 200 a couple of tenths faster than I would normally, I hope, obviously I haven't seen the splits yet.
'I just got to the last straight and I felt really good. I thought I'd give it everything. I thought I'd catch a few of them, I didn't think I'd catch all of them.'
CHARLIE DOBSON!!!! 🔥🔥
He comes out of nowhere to win the #LondonDL 400m with a PB (44.14), beating fellow Brit Matt Hudson-Smith who finishes 2nd 💨

Asked if Hudson-Smith had any words at the finish, Dobson added: 'He just laughed at me. I couldn't really say much either, to be honest. I was surprised. I'll chat to him after. He's an amazing competitor.
'I love being able to race against him and I'll be honest, I love beating him.'
Josh Kerr was another expected to be among the winners but, although he ran a season's best of 3.29.37, Kenya's Phanuel Koech had the measure of the reigning world champion.
Georgia Hunter-Bell produced a decisive finishing kick in the women's 800m, running a season's best of 1.56.74 to beat America's Addison Wiley, while Jemma Reekie (sixth) and Laura Muir (10th) were down the field.
Morgan Lake claimed victory in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.96m but there was disappointment for Molly Caudery in the women's pole vault as the 2024 world indoor champion cleared 4.60m, some way short of even her season's best of 4.85m, to place fifth.
Double trouble ✌️
It's second and third for @dinaashersmith and @amyghunt in the 200m 😍
And a brilliant personal best of 22.31s for Hunt 👏#LondonDL #DiamondLeague @_Novuna pic.twitter.com/VhyWuvRoYl

Dina Asher-Smith posted her best time this year in the women's 200m, running 22.25 behind Julien Alfred, with team-mate Amy Hunt third in a new PB of 22.31.
The first British quartet of Asher-Smith, Hunt, Desiree Henry and Daryll Neita came out on top in their women's 4x100m relay, running 41.69 seconds to beat second-placed Jamaica, with the second GB entry coming home sixth.
The first men's GB team of Jeremiah Azu, Louie Hinchcliffe, Romell Glave and Zharnel Hughes ran 38.08 to finish second to a dominant Jamaican team in the men's 4x100m relay, with the second British quartet taking third.
National 400m finals yielded victories for Lewis Davey (44.91) and Victoria Ohuruogu (51.22), with Seamus Derbyshire (48.82) winning a domestic men's 400m hurdle final.
Lawrence Okoye had to settle for third in the men's discus with a throw of 67.24m behind Mykolas Alekna's meeting record of 71.70m, while the Netherlands' Femke Bol delivered a comprehensive victory in the women's 400m hurdles, as Britain's Lina Nielsen finished sixth.
Noah Lyles was defeated in first 100m since winning gold in Paris last year, running 10 seconds flat as Jamica's Oblique Seville powered home in a time of 9.86.
Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a new meeting record of 1.42 in the men's 800m, with Britain's Max Burgin taking third with a new personal best of 1.42.36 in a race that had been billed as a world-record attempt.

Oleksandr Usyk is one of boxing's greats – but he'll never be able to enjoy success due to horrors of Ukraine war
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) OLEKSANDR USYK'S fame and fortune is a 'curse' while his friends and countrymen are lying dead in trenches and bomb sites. Derek Chisora lost a 12-round decision against the two-weight undisputed genius in 2020 but the pair bashed up an unlikely bromance. Del Boy was ringside to watch Usyk's latest four-belt crowning over Daniel Dubois on Saturday night at Wembley, cementing his place as a generational talent and a multi-millionaire. But he told our Split Decision YouTube show that all the belts and cash in the world are wasted on the devout 38-year-old, while Vladimir Putin lays siege to his home and slaughters his nation. Chisora explained: 'He has made so much money but he can't enjoy it because his country is at war. And the Englishman reckons the sickening onslaught his people are facing is inspiring him in a way that transcends sport. Oleksandr Usyk has press conference in stitches as he NAMES the left hook that floored Daniel Dubois at Wembley He said: 'The population is going down because so many people, young men, are dying. 'It's so difficult for him but it's also why he is so dedicated, he is doing it for his whole nation. 'If it's your destiny then it's your destiny. If God says it's your path then nothing will take you away from it.' Arguments about cross-generation fantasy fights will rage on in pubs and online forums. But Chisora tries to keep it short and sweet. He added: 'Usyk is 100 per cent a top-10 heavyweight and he is in my top-five. 'European amateur champion, Olympic gold medalist, undisputed cruiserweight world champion and two-time undisputed heavyweight champion. 'What more else can he do? He has whooped us all. He has taken the p***!'

The two-time world heavyweight champion is currently in the middle of filming a documentary about his family life as well as the second series of At Home With The Furys. Parker, 33, has been named as the mandatory challenger for 38-year-old's Usyk's IBO world heavyweight title.

Scotland defence coach Steve Tandy appointed Wales head coach
Scotland defence coach Steve Tandy has been appointed as Wales head coach, leaving Scottish Rugby on 31 August 2025. He will lead Wales going into the Quilter Nations Series in November. Tandy joined Scotland ahead of the 2020 Guinness Six Nations and has played an instrumental role in the development of the national team's defence in recent years. Following an instant impact in his role with Scotland he was selected to join the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa in 2021. Tandy previously coached the Waratahs and Ospreys where he won the PRO12 in 2012. Upon leaving the national team's coaching set-up Steve Tandy said: 'I have loved my time with the Scotland national team and it is a really tough decision to leave. 'I have built up a great relationship with the players and management within the national team and I am proud of the progress achieved since I joined. 'Not only have I loved my time in Scotland, but also the way everyone welcomed my family and made them feel at home has been amazing and will be something I'll never forget. 'The chance to manage the Welsh national team was an opportunity I was unable to turn down, but I leave with a heavy heart and would like to thank everyone I have worked with at Scottish Rugby who have made my time here so memorable.' Scotland head coach, Gregor Townsend, said: 'We're sorry to see Steve go because he's had a really positive influence on Scottish Rugby. Firstly, with the players that he's worked with and developed, and secondly the work he's done with the team, turning them into one of the best defensive sides in the world. As coaches we have loved working and learning from him. 'He has helped me massively in my role and he's been someone I've leaned on for advice. We've worked together on various ways of improving the environment and the team over the years. 'It'll be sad not having him with us anymore but it's also a massive honour for him to become the head coach of his home country. 'It's very deserved as he's an excellent coach with varied experiences including international rugby for the last five years and we wish him all the best.' Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, Alex Williamson, said: 'Steve is an extremely popular and talented coach and so we have really mixed emotions. We are disappointed that he is leaving the national team coaching set-up given his invaluable contribution since 2020, but we are also very proud of his achievements and the opportunity he now has to lead the country of his birth. At Scottish Rugby we aim to have the best coaches in the world and Steve is certainly one of them. 'We have worked closely with Abi Tierney and her team at the Welsh Rugby Union to allow Steve to join them and recruitment for a suitable replacement is under way. We hope to have someone in place ahead of the Quilter Nations Series in November and look forward to seeing Steve in Cardiff during the Guinness Six Nations.' Like this: Like Related
