Live Aston Villa vs PSG: Lineups and latest updates from Champions League
The last time Villa Park hosted a European Cup quarter-final was March 2 1983, three days before Kajagoogoo's Too Shy was knocked off top spot in the music charts by Billie Jean.
The then holders were defeated by Juventus, and Aston Villa have been waiting a long time for a night of this magnitude to come around again. Conceding a late third goal to Paris St-Germain in the first leg is unlikely to subdue the buoyant atmosphere, but it was a bitter blow to Villa's hopes of progressing further in the competition.
This is the first of four pivotal games in Villa's run-in, with league fixtures against Newcastle and Man City preceding an FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace.
PSG had the benefit of no league game at the weekend, but Villa enjoyed the next best thing by playing Southampton who were easily dispatched. Ollie Watkins scored a brilliant finish at St Mary's, and is knocking on the door for a start tonight after Unai Emery plumped for Marcus Rashford in Paris.
With Villa chasing goals, there is a case for both players starting but it looks an uphill battle against a PSG unit who have delivered the strongest collective performances in the competition.
Luis Enrique's team are strengthened by the return of captain Marquinhos from suspension, with Fabian Ruiz at risk of missing the semi-final first leg if he picked a yellow.
PSG's midfield axis of Joao Neves and Vitinha have been outstanding throughout their Champions League run, but Villa have the running power to challenge them running back towards their own goal.
If they can get the ball that is: Vitinha played 141 passes in the first leg, the most by a PSG player in a Champions League match on record, and second only to Xavi for Barcelona against Chelsea in 2012.

Man Utd transfer target's reason for rejecting them twice speaks volumes
Adrien Rabiot shed light on being closely linked with a Manchester United move over several years, highlighting the reason he rejected the Red Devils despite holding positive discussions Marseille star Adrien Rabiot has revealed how he twice rejected a Manchester United move despite holding progressive talks with the club. The midfielder, 30, cited the club's fall from grace as the reason, saying 'they're in a bit of a hole'. Rabiot made 31 appearances in his first campaign with Marseille this season. He helped them secure a spot in next season's Champions League by finishing a distant second in Ligue 1 to his former side, Paris Saint-Germain. Yet, Rabiot's career could have taken a very different path both last year and once previously. In an interview with The Athletic, he revealed details surrounding his positive discussions with United on two occasions before ultimately deciding against a move to Old Trafford. The France international said: "It really could have happened two years ago, when I was coming to the end of my contract at Juventus and I finally decided to extend by a year. "We had great talks, and there were written offers. But in the end, it didn't happen. Last year as well, when I was free, they came back in again. I had good talks with them again. "But it's true that it was a bit tricky. The situation they're in at the moment… I felt a bit of reticence about whether United were going to be able to go on and achieve great things. They're in a bit of a hole at the moment." Both of United's approaches to Rabiot came during Erik ten Hag's tenure as manager. The first time United reached out to the Frenchman, they had failed in pursuit of Barcelona 's Frenkie de Jong the previous summer. And last season, United were again in dire need of a central midfielder to play alongside Casemiro or Kobbie Mainoo. After being turned down by Rabiot, they shifted their focus to signing Manuel Ugarte instead. The Red Devils forked out £42million on the Uruguayan, who had a mixed first season in the Premier League. Rabiot's arrival would have been made even more complicated by the appointment of Ruben Amorim last November after Ten Hag was sacked. Under Amorim, he would have had to become used to playing in an entirely new formation – Amorim's trademark 3-4-3. The Marseille player would no doubt have been keeping a close eye on United's dire state of affairs this season, where Amorim guided them to their worst ever Premier League finish down in 15th place. Arsenal interested in signing nine-goal Premier League star instead of Rodrygo
Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon is among Arsenal's list of transfer targets this summer. The Gunners are working on bringing in reinforcements in a number of areas with Martin Zubimendi poised to join from Real Sociedad despite persistent talk of late interest from Real Madrid. Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to join from Chelsea to serve as David Raya's understudy while Arsenal remain in talks to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig with Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres also still of interest. Mikel Arteta is also eager to enlist the services of another winger with Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid star Rodrygo options being considered. But The Athletic also report England international Gordon is also a target. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. Gordon scored nine goals and laid on seven assists last season predominantly playing on the left. Bukayo Saka is first choice on the right of Arsenal's attack with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard vying for the role on the left with Gordon an option for both positions. The Gunners have already been spurned in their attempts to sign another Newcastle star in Alexander Isak, moving on from the Sweden international who has been priced at over £150million by the Magpies. Newcastle would also likely demand a big fee for Gordon with the club back in the Champions League alongside Arsenal next season. Rodrygo meanwhile has huge admirers at the Emirates. The Brazil international seemed set on forcing a move away from Real this summer with reports last month suggesting the Spanish giants could listen to offers of around £68m for the winger. But the arrival of Xabi Alonso at the Bernabeu appears to have eased tensions with latest reports suggesting the 24-year-old is prepared to stay. More Trending Alonso has also indicated the player is firmly part of his plans going forward. 'Rodrygo is a Real Madrid player,' said Alonso at a press conference. 'He is a spectacular player and we will need him.' In addition to a winger and a striker, Arsenal are also considering bringing in another centre-half to compete with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. Crystal Palace and England star Marc Guehi is a top target for that role.
