The journey began under the leadership of Max-Hervé George at Icona Capital when Stoneweg became the firm's Swiss investment advisory partner in 2020. Their collaboration gained significant media attention with the acquisition of a 211,000 sqm Casbega bottling plant in Fuenlabrada, Madrid. Thor Equities later purchased the property to develop a USD 650 million state-of-the-art data center—an opportunity first identified by George and his team and executed in partnership with Stoneweg.

Through his analysis, Max-Hervé George saw how Icona Capital's alternative investment methods would collaborate with Stoneweg's real estate knowledge. George has assumed the Chair role at SWI Group to emphasize that the merged entity expands markets while offering expanded products to draw investment from institutional clients. Through strategic partnership, the venture builds an international investment solution yet stays closely connected to local market dynamics, supported by local workforce expertise.
As Co-CEO of SWI Group, Jaume Sabate formerly served as Stoneweg CEO before the teams converged effortlessly. "We established multiple acquisition alliances with Max-Hervé George and his Icona Capital teams; therefore, we look forward to uniting our work locations," he declared. SWI Group was officially formed in 2024 from the combined strengths of Stoneweg Real Estate Foundations and Icona Capital's various portfolio holdings.
Icona Capital expanded its operations to luxury hospitality through the acquisition of a Maldivian island that would become an ultra-luxury resort development project prior to the merger. Through its fundamental business strategy, SWI Group continues to develop digital infrastructure and logistics and warehousing systems, which represent prominent growth markets in the modern global economy.
Landmark Acquisition and Increased AUM
A crucial acquisition moment happened when Redefine Properties, together with Oak Grove, jointly invested USD 330 million to buy Cromwell Property Group's European fund management infrastructure with its associated investments. Under the deal, the company obtained USD 4.2 billion worth of assets under management through a stake purchase in Cromwell European REIT, which amounted to 27.8 per cent. The company took a significant step towards establishing its institutional infrastructure, according to George. The organization enhances its exposure to modern business sectors as well as international markets, which play an essential role in its multi-asset structure.

SWI Group currently has over 350 professionals working in 26 offices distributed across 18 countries. The company unites its international investment ideas with domestic market knowledge through a single operation. Bjarke Ingels Grouphas unveiled the renderings for a 'three-dimensional neighborhood' as part ofBrooklyn's Gowanus Canal redevelopment plans. In place of a now-scrapped proposal unveiled in 2023, the reimagined development spans over one million sq ft, anchored by a public park designed by Fieldo Operations in collaboration with NYC Parks, and an internal stepped courtyard offering panoramic views of the New York City Skyline. BIG founder and architectBjarke Ingelsshared that the project at 175 Third Street is conceived as a 'three-dimensional neighborhood of building blocks stacked to frame a central park cascading down towards the canal waterfront.' 'The rational volumes are chiseled and chamfered, opening up the corners to create terraces, entrances, and outdoor spaces. The resultant architecture provides a plethora of niches for all forms of life – urban and intimate, public and private – within and around,' he added. The tower, consisting of terraced concrete blocks, was designed in collaboration with dencityworks | architecture and developers Charney Companies and Tavros. Culminating at 27 stories, the building will offer more than 1,000 residential units, as well as roughly 250 affordable housing options. According to Martin Voelkle of BIG the volumes are characterized by 'a series of purposeful shifts and chamfered corners' designed according to 'programmatic needs and the site's contextual zoning constraints.' Cascading into a descending U-shape, the building opens to the waterfront park linking 2nd and 3rd Streets. According toBrownstoner, the previous 2023 design, characterized by a more deconstructed, sculptural sensibility, was commissioned by previous owners RFR, who have since sold the property to the new developers for about $160 million USD in April. Part of the multi-acre 'Gowanus Wharf' revitalization, the building will be the 4th Gowanus project by Charney and Tavros. The four properties consist of over 2 million sq ft of new development. UBS faces $26B in capital requirements from Swiss bank reforms, Bloomberg says
UBS (UBS) is facing as much as $26B in capital requirements to be phased over the next decade under banking reform proposals from the Swiss government, Bastian Benrath-Wright and Noele Illien of Bloomberg reports. The largest hit to the bank is set to come from a proposal that would require the company to increase the capital held at home against its stakes in foreign units to 100% from the current 60%. The government estimates this will force UBS to add as much as $23B in capital to its Swiss-based main unit. China says it may speed up rare earths application approvals from EU
By Brenda Goh SHANGHAI (Reuters) -China is willing to accelerate the examination and approval of rare earth exports to European Union firms and will also deliver a verdict on its trade investigation of EU brandy imports by July 5, its commerce ministry said on Saturday. Price commitment consultations between China and the EU on Chinese-made electric vehicles exported to the EU have also entered a final stage but efforts from both sides are still needed, according to a statement on the Chinese commerce ministry's website. The issues were discussed between Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic in Paris on Tuesday, according to the statement. The comments mark progress on matters that have vexed China's relationship with the European Union over the past year. Most recently, China's decision in April to suspend exports of a wide range of rare earths and related magnets has upended the supply chains central to automakers, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor companies and military contractors around the world. The ministry said China attached great importance to the EU's concerns and "was willing to establish a green channel for qualified applications to speed up the approval process." Commerce Minister Wang during the meeting "expressed the hope that the EU will meet us halfway and take effective measures to facilitate, safeguard and promote compliant trade in high-tech products to China," according to the statement. Chinese anti-dumping measures that applied duties of up to 39% on imports of European brandy - with French cognac bearing the brunt - have also strained relations between Paris and Beijing. The brandy duties were enforced days after the European Union took action against Chinese-made electric vehicle imports to shield its local industry, prompting France's President Emmanuel Macron to accuse Beijing of "pure retaliation". The Chinese duties have dented sales of brands including LVMH's Hennessy, Pernod Ricard's Martell and Remy Cointreau. Beijing was initially meant to make a final decision on the brandy duties by January, but extended the deadline to April and then again to July 5. China's commerce ministry said on Saturday that French companies and relevant associations had proactively submitted applications on price commitments for brandy to China and that Chinese investigators had reached an agreement with them on the core terms. Chinese authorities were now reviewing the complete text on those commitments and would issue a final announcement before July 5, it said. In April, the European Commission said the EU and China had also agreed to look into setting minimum prices of Chinese-made electric vehicles instead of tariffs imposed by the EU last year. China's commerce ministry said the EU had also proposed exploring "new technical paths" relating to EVs, which the Chinese side was now evaluating.
