Path to shops to open four months after cafe fire
South Street in Dorchester has been closed since the blaze at the Gorge Cafe in the early hours of 9 December.
Dorset Council said contractors working at the site were set to create a walkway so pedestrians can get from one side of the street to the other.
The council said the hoardings were expected to be adjusted on 11 April.
The fire destroyed the Grade II listed terraced building in South Street, where novelist Thomas Hardy trained as an architect.
The building further collapsed several weeks after the fire with the street sealed off due to safety concerns.
About 50 firefighters tackled the blaze as it tore through the building shortly after 03:30 GMT.

Smoke warning over two-day waste station fire
A fire in a large waste stack that has been burning for more than a day has prompted a smoke warning to local residents. Fire crews were called at 11:26 BST on Wednesday to Hurn recycling transfer station on Chapel Lane, near Christchurch, Dorset. The fire was deep in a mound of recycling inside a building, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said. On Thursday afternoon, the service said firefighters were still working on the blaze, which continued to throw up smoke over the area. Crews worked to break down and dampen the stack and remove it with a telehandler. The service said local residents should keep doors and windows closed if concerned.
