A charity's partnership with a prize draw competition has helped fund befriending calls for elderly people in Norfolk. Age UK Norfolk teamed up with Omaze - a company that organises prize draws to win luxury houses - allowing the charity to extend its befriending services. Last year, Age UK joined forces with Omaze for its Million Pound House Draw, which offered entrants the chance to win a £4 million Lake District property and £250,000 in cash. The draw raised £5.25 million for Age UK - the highest amount Omaze has generated for a charity partner. The service provides weekly phone calls to people who may be feeling isolated or lonely. Pamela, a volunteer who makes befriending calls, said: 'Regular calls to a lonely older person can make a huge difference and knowing that makes it worthwhile. 'We have a good connection, and it's more like a friendship than a 'role'.' One service user added: 'I'm so grateful for the calls, and everything you have all done for us. You are angels and I can't say enough about how you have helped us.' Jo Asbury, head of community and wellbeing at Age UK Norfolk, said: 'We're thrilled to receive this donation from Omaze to support older people in Norfolk. 'Our services help thousands of older people in Norfolk, and it's through the continued generosity of partners like Omaze that we're able to keep making a difference where it's needed most.'
