The Scot has been announced as part of Arne Slot's backroom staff at the Premier League champions, where he will support head of first team goalkeeping coaching Xavi Valero.
Stewart spent two seasons coaching in the academy at Rangers before seven in the first team environment but left earlier his year when Philippe Clement was sacked.
Interim boss Barry Ferguson brought in Allan McGregor to replace him. Russell Martin recently hired former Arsenal man Sal Bibbo as the new goalkeeping coach.
Stewart joins former Ibrox boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Anfield after the Dutchman's appointment as a first team coach.

A statement on the Liverpool website reads: "The Scot links up with Arne Slot's backroom team after nine years with Glasgow Rangers.
"His first two years with Rangers were spent at the helm of the club's academy goalkeeping programme, before being promoted to the role of first-team goalkeeper coach, in which he served for the past seven years.
"Stewart, a former professional goalkeeper himself, also worked with the Scottish FA for more than a decade as a goalkeeping coach educator, delivering relevant courses across the country.
"Now, he will support Xavi Valero – back at Liverpool as head of first-team goalkeeper coaching – on a daily basis in working with the Reds' senior stoppers on and off the pitch.
"Additionally, Stewart will oversee the loan strategies of goalkeepers who are in the process of making the step up from youth level to senior experience, serving as a link between the men's squad, loan management team and U21s group."

Bayern Munich revive talks with Liverpool over Luis Diaz transfer

Bayern Munich are back in talks with Liverpool as their attempts to buy Luis Diaz continue. The German champions had a £58.5m bid for the Colombian winger rejected earlier this month. And while Liverpool have maintained their stance that Diaz is not for sale, Bayern have been in persistent dialogue in their hopes to sign the 28-year-old. They made an initial approach for Diaz, which Liverpool rebuffed, before returning with a £67.5m offer, which was nowhere near one Liverpool would consider. The Premier League champions believe Diaz is worth at least €100m (£87m). Bayern are yet to make a second bid but their continued interest shows they have not moved on to other targets as they look for a replacement for the departed Leroy Sane. Liverpool regard Diaz, who scored 17 goals last season and operated as both a left winger and a centre-forward, as a key player. He has two years left on his contract. Liverpool have strengthened their forward line this week with the arrival of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69m, taking their spending for the summer to around £250m. They had also made an inquiry for Alexander Isak, who wants to explore the option of a move away from Newcastle and who could cost more than the £100m club-record fee paid for Florian Wirtz, before buying Ekitike. Liverpool have also extended the contract of left-back Owen Beck and loaned him to Championship club Derby.

Goalkeeper set to return to Manchester City two years after exit

Manchester City are set to re-sign goalkeeper James Trafford for £27m, two years after his departure to Burnley. Trafford rejected a move to Newcastle United, opting instead to return to his former club after City activated a matching rights clause in his previous transfer deal. The 22-year-old will sign a five-year contract and is expected to serve as cover for Ederson, which may lead to the departure of Stefan Ortega. Trafford equalled the record for most clean sheets in an English league season last year, keeping 29 for Burnley during their promotion-winning campaign. His return represents another transfer market setback for Newcastle, while City's summer spending will reach approximately £140m.
