TGSRTC workers' union for suspension of contractual employment
A workers' union of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has demanded that the management hit the brakes on its plan to hire workers on a contractual basis. Citing the retirement of over a few thousand workers over the past decade, the union has called for regular recruitment to fill long-pending vacancies in the corporation.
The Staff and Workers Federation (SWF) has urged a roll back of the hiring move and sought the notification of regular, full-time posts.
The union maintained that upwards of 10,000 workers had retired in the last 10 years. They claimed that little or no direct recruitment has happened in the same time period. Only a handful of compassionate appointments have been made, union office bearers Veeranjaneyulu and V. S. Rao said.
With the Mahalaxmi Scheme, that provides free bus rides to women, launched in December 2023, occupancy has spiked. This has led to the need for augmenting the bus fleet of more buses and increasing staff strength. However, the union alleged that the TGSRTC has not expanded its fleet to meet the rising demand. Recruitments too have been put on the back burner.
Arguing that the TGSRTC is a permanent service-oriented institution, the union asserted that contractual recruitment not only contravenes certain stipulations, but also is a betrayal of unemployed youth. They noted that while both regular and contract staff perform the same duties, the latter face severe pay disparities and job insecurity.
The union also criticised the practice of outsourcing recruitment to private contractors. The government's approach is akin to dividing unions, they said.

TGSRTC withdraws order for 40 electric buses issued to Megha entity
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has withdrawn an order for 40 electric buses issued to MEIL subsidiary, EVEY Trans. The 40 electric buses were part of the order for 50 such for inter-city operations the State Transport Corporation had placed with EVEY in April 2023. The TGSRTC has reduced the order to 10 buses which have already been delivered. In respect of the balance 40, the order has been withdrawn, another MEIL entity Olectra Greentech informed stock exchanges on Saturday. As per the tender conditions, EVEY was executing the contract with TGSRTC through a special purpose vehicle company EVEY Trans in which electric bus maker Olectra had 26% stake and EVEY the remaining 74%. Under the contractual terms, the buses were required to be procured from Olectra and who additionally was responsible for their maintenance. The order for supply of 50 electric buses was to be on gross cost contract (GCC) / OPEX model basis for the contract period of 10 years. Olectra did not specify reasons for which the order for the remaining 40 buses was withdrawn by the State Transport Corporation. The TGSRTC had in April 2023 also placed order for 500 electric buses for intra-city operations, along with the 50 buses for intercity operations, it said. Except for reduction in existing order book by 40 buses, there is no material adverse impact since it is having huge order book for electric buses, Olectra said in the filing.

Telangana Deputy CM seeks cooperation of banks to achieve Rajiv Yuva Vikasam targets
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has requested banks to extend cooperation in achieving the targets set under Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, the innovative scheme facilitating self-employment opportunities to youth, in a time bound manner. The State Government has decided to distribute sanction letters to five lakh eligible youth selected for assistance through Rajiv Yuva Vikasam on June 2 coinciding with the State formation day. Bankers were asked to extend their cooperation in ensuring hassle free implementation of the scheme. Banks should accordingly appoint a State level nodal officer to coordinate with different banks for taking the scheme forward. The State Government on its part has resolved to provide ₹6,250 crore subsidy towards Rajiv Yuva Vikasam which is conceived to harness entrepreneurial skills among educated and skilled youth. This will in turn enhance the State Gross State Domestic Product, he said. The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio, was addressing a meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee held in Hyderabad on Thursday (May 22, 2025). He hoped that banks would reach the targets planned for the current financial year. Focus on agri sector Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka said the State government accorded top priority to agriculture sector with focus on promotion of horticulture and oil palm cultivation. The government had recently credited ₹21,000 crore into the accounts of farmers as part of loan waiver while it prioritised implementation of Rythu Bharosa farmers investment support scheme besides paying premium to provide insurance coverage to them. Solar pump sets to tribal farmers This was in addition to the launch of the Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam, an exclusive scheme for providing off-grid power connectivity to tribal farmers through distribution of solar pump sets with 100% subsidy. A huge ₹12,600 crore had been earmarked for providing solar pump sets to eligible tribal farmers free of cost over a period of five years. ₹1 lakh crore interest free loans to women SHGs Women empowerment was another priority area of the government and it had sanctioned interest free loans of ₹20,000 since taking over power in the State. It was resolved to provide ₹1 lakh crore interest free loans to women self help groups (SHG) in the coming five years. In addition to providing financial assistance to SHGs, steps were taken to inculcate entrepreneurship among them. Accordingly, women were encouraged to purchase buses for leasing out to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) and set up power plants through which they could make money. The State Government had targeted additional generation capacity of 20,000 MW through green energy by 2030 and several steps were initiated in this direction. Advanced tech centres to make youth employable on a global scale Equal emphasis was laid on youth empowerment and the government implemented fee reimbursement for them to promote human resources in a big way. While Skill University was set up to harness skill sets among youth, the government was setting up advanced technology centres in majority of the Assembly constituencies to provide necessary training to youth for making them employable on a global scale.
