Marvel's 'Black Panther' spinoff 'Ironheart' puts a new hero in the spotlight. Here's what to know about the TV series.
Marvel's "Ironheart" follows Riri Williams, a character from "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
Riri (Dominique Thorne) is a teenage inventor who builds her own version of the Iron Man suit.
The Disney+ show is produced by "Black Panther" and "Sinners" director Ryan Coogler.
Marvel's "Ironheart" puts a new hero in the spotlight.
Three years after she was first introduced in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) is back as the focus of the upcoming TV series.
In the 2022 film, the teenage tech genius built her own version of the Iron Man suit and fought against Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and the Atlantean army alongside Shuri (Letitia Wright).
While the Wakandans didn't let Riri keep the armor at the end of the film, they didn't say anything about her not making another suit — and that's exactly what she does in "Ironheart."
In the series, which is produced by "Sinners" director Ryan Coogler, she'll also contend with the divide between magic and technology thanks to the introduction of a character named The Hood.
Here's what to know about the show.
The first "Ironheart" trailer shows Riri living in Chicago after the events of "Wakanda Forever" and building her own suit of armor. She crosses paths with Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos), who wears a magical hood that gives him dark, mystical powers.
In the footage, which was released on May 14, Robbins promises Riri that he can fund her "vision" if they work together. He points out that she is overlooked at college despite being a genius.
The trailer confirms that the six-episode miniseries will start airing on Disney+ on June 24 in the US.
This is Riri's second appearance in the MCU, and the character has appeared in the Marvel comics since 2016.
The Hood was introduced to comic readers in 2002 as a petty criminal who gains magical powers after he steals a hooded cape and a pair of boots from a demon. The outfit allows him to turn invisible when holding his breath, and he can also levitate.
Alden Ehrenreich, best known for playing a young Han Solo in "Solo: A Star Wars Story," plays an original character named Joe McGillicuddy, who has a secret bunker, as seen in the trailer.
Actor Sacha Baron Cohen is also listed in the cast, but his role is unknown.
Rounding out the cast are Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington, Riri's friend, Anji White as Riri's mother, and Manny Montana as Cousin John.

Miley Cyrus says getting older changed how she sees her parents
For Miley Cyrus, adulthood means seeing her parents not as her mom and dad, but as individuals outside their parent-child relationship. In an interview with The New York Times published on Saturday, the "Flowers" singer spoke about growing up in the public eye and as part of a famous Hollywood family. Rumors of a Cyrus family feud have swirled since her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus-Purcell, finalized their divorce in 2022. When asked if she was still estranged from her father, she told the Times, "No. I think timing is everything." "As I've gotten older, I'm r especting my parents as individuals instead of as parents — because my mom's really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard," Cyrus said. Her parents were married for almost 30 years before they officially called it quits. They previously filed for divorce in 2010 and 2013, but reconciled both times. Her mother married "Prison Break" star Dominic Purcell in 2023. Her father married Australian singer, Firerose, in 2024, but they divorced just seven months later. Since April, he has been in a relationship with Elizabeth Hurley. Cyrus says she's made peace with the fact that her parents have moved on to having relationships with other people. "But now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing," she said. "I'm being an adult about it. At first it's hard, because the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, 'Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy.' My child self has caught up," Cyrus added. In the interview, the " Hannah Montana" star also spoke about learning to rely less on her mother. Instead, she now imagines what her mom would do in uncomfortable situations and tries to mirror it. "And now I just go, 'What was it about her that made everything better?' It was safety, because I knew any situation that I didn't feel safe in, my mom would get me out of it or make it better. And so now I just imagine what soothed me about her, and then I do it for myself," she said. Cyrus isn't the only celebrity who has spoken about navigating the changing parent-child relations in their lives. In a 2024 appearance on "Today with Hoda and Jenna," Molly Shannon said parents should see their teens as "regular people" and have more empathy. "Most of the time, they just want to be heard. I try to think of that," Shannon said. A representative for Cyrus did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by Business Insider outside regular hours.

'Lilo & Stitch' passes 'Sinners' to become 2nd highest grossing film of 2025
'Lilo & Stich' and 'Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning' dominated the box office charts again after fueling a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend. Theaters in the U.S. and Canada had several new films to offer this weekend as well, including Sony's family friendly 'Karate Kid: Legends' and the A24 horror movie 'Bring Her Back. ' According to studio estimates Sunday, it added up to a robust $149 million post-holiday weekend that's up over 120% from the same timeframe last year. Disney's live-action hybrid 'Lilo & Stitch' took first place again with $63 million from 4,410 locations in North America. It was enough to pass 'Sinners' to become the second-highest grossing movie of the year with $280.1 million in domestic ticket sales. Globally, its running total is $610.8 million. 'Sinners,' meanwhile, is still going strong in its seventh weekend with another $5.2 million, bumping it to $267.1 million domestically and $350.1 million globally. The eighth 'Mission: Impossible' movie also repeated in second place, with $27.3 million from 3,861 locations. As with 'Lilo & Stitch,' that's down 57% from its opening. With $122.6 million in domestic tickets sold, it's performing in line with the two previous installments. But with a reported production budget of $400 million, profitability is a ways off. Internationally, it added $76.1 million (including $25.2 million from China where it just opened), bringing its global total to $353.8 million. 'This is the year of longterm playability,' said Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore's senior media analyst. 'The currency of word of mouth and the strong hold is more important than opening weekend dollars.' Leading the newcomers was Sony's 'Karate Kid: Legends,' with an estimated $21 million from 3,809 locations. The movie brings Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio together to train a new kid, the kung fu prodigy Li Fong ( Ben Wang ). Chan starred in a 2010 reboot of the 1984 original, while Macchio has found a new generation of fans in the series 'Cobra Kai,' which just concluded a six-season run. Reviews might have been mixed, but opening weekend audiences gave the PG-13 rated film a strong A- CinemaScore and 4.5 stars on PostTrak. It also only cost a reported $45 million to produce and has several weeks until a new family-friendly film arrives. 'Karate Kid: Legends' opened earlier internationally and has a worldwide total of $47 million. Fourth place went 'Final Destination: Bloodlines,' which earned $10.8 million in its third weekend. The movie is the highest-grossing in the franchise, not accounting for inflation, with $229.3 million globally. The weekend's other big newcomer, 'Bring Her Back' rounded out the top five with $7.1 million from 2,449 screens. Starring Sally Hawkins as a foster mother with some disturbing plans, the film is the sophomore feature of twin filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who made the 2023 horror breakout 'Talk to Me.' It earned a rare-for-horror B+ CinemaScore and is essentially the only new film in the genre until '28 Years Later' opens on June 20. A new Wes Anderson movie, 'The Phoenician Scheme,' also debuted in New York and Los Angeles this weekend, where it made $270,000. It expands nationwide next weekend. The summer box office forecast remains promising, though there's a long way to go to get to the $4 billion target (a pre-pandemic norm that only the 'Barbenheimer' summer has surpassed). The month of May is expected to close out with $973 million – up 75% from May 2024, according to data from Comscore. Top 10 movies by domestic box office With final domestic figures being released Monday, this list factors in the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore: 1. 'Lilo & Stitch,' $63 million. 2. 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,' $27.3 million. 3. 'Karate Kid: Legends,' 21 million. 4. 'Final Destination: Bloodlines,' $10.8 million. 5. 'Bring Her Back,' $7.1 million. 6. 'Sinners,' $5.2 million. 7. 'Thunderbolts,' $4.8 million. 8. 'Friendship,' $2.6 million. 9. 'The Last Rodeo,' $2.1 million. 10. 'j-hope Tour 'HOPE ON THE STAGE' in JAPAN: LIVE VIEWING,' $939,173.
