‘I thought it was the end of our friendship', says RTE star Carl Mullan as shares emotion over 2FM pals' departure

'I had managed to land on something with that show that was very special' SAD GOODBYE 'I thought it was the end of our friendship', says RTE star Carl Mullan as shares emotion over 2FM pals' departure RTE star Carl Mullan has admitted he thought his friendship with his former 2FM co-hosts was "ended" after they quit the station. The Dublin native presented the 2FM breakfast show alongside Doireann Garrihy and Donncha O'Callaghan from 2021 to 2024. Just one month later, Donncha followed suit, quitting the broadcaster to focus on other projects. Carl has remained on the breakfast show ever since and now presents the popular series alongside travel guru Roz Purcell and Aisling Bonner. But the favourite has now opened up about the emotional toll of losing two of his closest pals from the airwaves — revealing he feared their friendship was done and dusted. Advertisement The 34-year-old told the RTE Guide: 'From my point of view, I was upset that two people I'd become very close to were leaving. "Donncha, Doireann and I had managed to land on something with that show that was very special.' The popular presenter admitted he was "really worried" it would be the end of their bond, adding: "That's what upset me the most." But thankfully, the trio have remained tight — despite the career shake-up. Advertisement Carl said: "Very quickly, I realised they're not going anywhere — and sure we're in touch all the time. I can't get rid of them!" And while he's found it tough saying goodbye to the old gang, he's now settling into a new groove with co-hosts Roz and Aisling — although he wasn't sure it would click at first. Carl Mullan 'calls out' Dermot Bannon for wrong home advice The dad-of-two confessed: "I was worried about how it would all gel, It's a different dynamic and new personalities, but that's what I'm enjoying most about it.' 'My worry was that I'd always be comparing — but we get on so well. It's different, but that's okay, it actually makes it exciting." Advertisement This comes after Carl and his wife Aisling Mullan announced that they would be launching their very own podcast together. NEW VENTURE The lovebirds followed the typical friends to lovers trope, first meeting as kids in school at the age of 11. Years later the pair romantically rekindled, and Carl popped the question in 2020, which was followed by a lavish wedding ceremony in 2022. The happy pair now share three children: Dabhi, four, Eala, two, and their new baby girl, Beibhinn. Advertisement But aside from their hectic life of parenting, Carl and Aisling have decided to start their own podcast show. The new podcast - How Are Ya Love?- hit the airwaves back on July 21 - and fans are already obsessed. You can listen to the couple chat, cry and of course laugh every Monday at 12pm. 3 Carl Mullan and his wife Aisling have launched their own podcast
