Man held for trying to murder actress wife in Bengaluru
The victim, identified as Manjula alias Shruthi, is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital and is said to be out of danger. She is the mother of two daughters.
They were in courtship before getting married about 20 years ago and were staying at Muneshwara Block in Srinagar.
As she would come home late in the night and sometimes under the influence of alcohol, the accused would fight with her. The accused was even more frustrated as she would not come home for a few days and was not taking care of the family, mainly the daughters. Their fights had also caught the attention of the police. One day before the incident, the police had advised them to sort out the differences and to live without fighting. The victim would also go and stay at her brother's house after arguments with her husband.
The accused would request her to return for the sake of their daughters. Even the family elders had tried to resolve the issues between them.
'On July 4th after the children went to college, Amaresh fought with the victim and repeatedly stabbed her after using pepper spray on her face. The neighbours, after hearing her cry, rescued her and took her to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw. As it was a medico legal case, the police who were informed rushed to the victim's house and arrested her husband,' said an officer.
The victim has acted in a few Kannada serials and earlier worked in a vernacular news channel.

Railway employee suspended for dereliction of duty in Yadgir
The South Central Railway authorities placed an employee working at the Yadgir Railway Station under suspension on the charge of dereliction of duty on Tuesday after a video of him talking on a mobile phone for a long time while on duty went viral. The employee, C. Mahesh, is seen in the video talking on a mobile phone call for a long time while sitting inside the counter ignoring passengers in the queue outside to get travelling tickets. At one stage, he signalled a passenger to wait. His behaviour triggered the other passengers who urged him to stop talking and issue tickets, as they were already getting late. Despite passengers demanding tickets, he went on speaking on his mobile phone. The video of his behaviour was circulated on social media. The general public and pro-Kannada organisations condemned the incident and demanded immediate action. Upon verification, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager for South Central Railways of the Guntakal division N. Manoj, under whom Yadgir Railway Station falls, passed the suspension order and also ordered a disciplinary inquiry against Mahesh on the charge of dereliction of duty and talking on a mobile phone while on duty. 'We not only placed him under suspension but also have ordered a disciplinary inquiry against him,' Mr. Manoj told The Hindu over phone. Responding to the action, district president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Bheemu Naik has said that it is a welcome decision. But the railway authorities should ensure that no such incident occurs again.

Prakash Raj questioned by ED in betting case; Rana, Vijay, Lakshmi summoned
Actor Prakash Raj on Wednesday appeared before the ED officials here for questioning in a money laundering case linked to illegal online betting and gambling by certain platforms. Actor Prakash Raj was questioned by the ED for about four hours. He said he did the assignment with the apps in 2016 but didn't take any money on moral grounds.(PTI) The actor, popular in Telugu, Kannada and other South Indian films, appeared before officials of the probe agency at its zonal office here. The agency asked Daggubati (40) to appear before the zonal office here on July 23, Raj (60) on July 30, Deverakonda (36) on August 6 and Lakshmi (47) on August 13. The actors had "endorsed" online betting apps allegedly involved in generating "illicit" funds, official sources had said. However, the ED gave a fresh date of August 11 to actor Daggubati after he failed to appear on July 23, seeking deferment of the summons. The ED had taken cognisance of as many as five state police FIRs to register its case against these actors and a number of other celebrities and social media influencers. These individuals are suspected to have "endorsed" online betting apps like Junglee Rummy, JeetWin, Lotus365, etc, for celebrity or endorsement fee, ED sources had said.
