Crescent Hose Company looks to cut response times with ‘Knox Box' technology
But what's known as a Knox Box Rapid Entry System can solve that issue, and the Crescent Hose Company in North East is looking to get more installed across the area.

'It basically allows the fire departments to have a set of keys, but it's secured on the premises of the building. So essentially, if we roll up on a call and there's no one from there to let us in, it can save some time, money, and essentially lives,' said Damian Trusty, Rescue Lieutenant with the Crescent Hose Company.
Trusty said Knox Boxes are often found in factories or multi-residential buildings, but currently fewer than 10 businesses in North East have them installed.
The box itself is a red and black wall-mounted safe installed outside of a building or business.
First responders have a key of their own to access the safe, and when they open it, a set of keys to the locked building can be found inside, which allows first responders to quickly enter a building without having to break anything.
'It makes our response times a lot quicker. It helps us gain access quicker to put water on fire, to get to a patient if need be. On the flip side of that, the businesses, it can save them money, potentially, if it's a late-night call, we don't have anyone around, and we have a reason to think that we need to get in there urgently, we can get in there urgently without using methods that would damage property,' said Trusty.
He said his fire department has already used Knox Boxes for several fire alarms and EMS calls, but so far, no working fires.

Commercial Knox Boxes are currently starting at $500 at knoxbox.com, with residential boxes going for $384.

Electronic Merchant Systems buys payment platform Paysley
Electronic Merchant Systems (EMS) has acquired Paysley, a payment platform known for its omnichannel capabilities. Financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed. Paysley will now operate as a fully owned subsidiary of EMS, yet it will retain its operational independence and continue its direct business operations and partnerships with agents, ISOs, and ISVs. Paysley's platform features extend to multiple business operations such as invoicing, inventory control, in-person transactions, and digital marketing efforts. It facilitates methods such as text-based invoicing, QR code integration, and secure mobile links. The platform recently introduced the Paysley Tap to Pay feature for iPhone users, enhancing its cloud-based payment suite. Paysley founder Chris Roets stated: "On behalf of everyone here at Paysley, we're thrilled to officially join forces under the EMS banner. We're deeply grateful to Afshin and the entire EMS team for their continued support and shared vision as we evolve our partnership and modernise the payment ecosystem." EMS chairman and CEO Afshin Yazdian said: "Working with Paysley has been an incredible journey. Their innovation and drive have already made a strong impact, and now that they've formally joined the EMS family, I can't wait to see what we build together." In April, EMS also made investments in Payment Nerds and Pet Payments, two ventures initiated by Shawn Silver, who previously founded PaymentCloud. Both companies have secured distribution agreements with EMS. Payment Nerds is geared towards delivering an integrated payment platform to various sectors such as hospitality, retail, and e-commerce. Meanwhile, Pet Payments is tailored to meet the payment service needs of the pet care industry, serving entities like veterinary clinics and pet grooming services. EMS, a merchant services provider, offers payment processing solutions, including credit card processing, risk management, gateway services, and virtual terminals, as well as sales software and web management tools. "Electronic Merchant Systems buys payment platform Paysley " was originally created and published by Electronic Payments International, a GlobalData owned brand. Delta Development Team Solidifies Leadership and Continued Support in Prehospital Blood Space with Successful Series A3 Close
TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In a U.S. market where fewer than 2% of EMS agencies have implemented prehospital blood programs—and over 70% of those rely on Delta Development Team (DDT) systems—DDT is emerging as the clear leader in a rapidly expanding space. Today, the company announced the successful close of its Series A3 funding round, marking a major milestone in its growth trajectory. Unlike many startups navigating a tight funding landscape, DDT completed its extended Series A round in just nine months. This momentum is a direct result of its increasing adoption across both civilian and military healthcare sectors, its growing reputation as the gold standard in cold chain technology, and its alignment with evolving protocols that prioritize earlier access to blood in the field. 'This market is transforming fast—and we're not just keeping pace; we're driving the shift,' said Montgomery Leija, CEO of Delta Development Team. 'From military partnerships to frontline EMS units, our systems are becoming foundational infrastructure for evolving prehospital blood programs.' The Series A3 round was backed by a mix of strategic capital and non-dilutive funding, including support from the U.S. Air Force's TACFI (SBIR) program. This funding structure enables DDT to scale quickly while minimizing dilution and operational risk.
